I strongly dislike and reject morality, the understatement of the viewer, the unnecessary apologies and the academicism of filmmakers. Personally, what I search for in films is to feel and think.

Atlanta (2016)
Beautifully done
I had been wanting to see Atlanta for a while but didn't give it a chance, don't know why.
I always watch series one episode a day, but with this one I just watched it all in a couple of days. It's so enjoyable, funny, moving and critical. Besides I'm in love with both Zazie Beetz and Lakeith Stanfield so I never take my eyes out the screen.
It has a lot of beautiful shots and moments, if you have the eye for non-explicit meaningful images. There were times when I just wanted to slap the characters, share a smoke, like they all feel so real.
Even though I watched it all at once just because of the excitement it made me feel, I really recommend watching one episode, give it time to sink in, think about it, allow the series to make you feel.
Ma vie en rose (1997)
23 years later, sex education is still the answer
The first time I saw this movie was in my last year of school, at 17 years old. I only got to watch 30 minutes of the film beause an homophobic classmate was sitting next to me, and at the very beggining he yelled awful insults to the screen that I won't repeat. So inevitably, I insulted him back and got kicked out of the classroom. Any way, I never got to finish the movie until today.
It has this very oniric and fanciful scenes full of the dreams of a misunderstood child. Very sweet and detailed vision of childhood, that shows in a caring way the difficulty of being a kid in any society, harder enough to be a trans kid. It kind of reminded me of Tomboy (2011); two very real characters that really need a brave, accepting and loving adult to protect them.
What the wounds of a lifetime could, or not, provoke. Let's really think twice before acting and talking to our children.
The Elephant Man (1980)
Must be shown in schools
My view of the body/heart of people will never be the same after watching this film. I know this may sound stupid, but it was extremely hard, hurting, devastating to see all the abuse and discrimination a person can get just because of his appearance. Sadly, it made me think of how many feel dehumanized not only by their physical capacity, but emocionally.
By a lot of very sweet moments, the protagonist speaks and moves so tenderly I wouldn't think it's John Hurt behind a mask. There's just some deliciousness in the quality of the image in black and white that makes the film even more touching. This adorableness, in my opinion as a teacher, makes it a perfect movie for students to enjoy and learn the most valuable lesson I couldn't ever provide like the film can: everyone deserves respect, understanding and empathy, no matter how they look or where they come from.
P.s I cried so much I had to stop watching like five times, and at the very end I was just inconsolable.
Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (1988)
A loveletter to cinema and life itself
Full of winks to film history, the story is structured by the permanent and genuine love of a child who can only think of movies. I cannot stop replaying the wise words of one of the main characters, accompanied by the unique and legendary soundtrack by the master music Ennio Morricone. This small town, the old cinema, the non explicit dreams of a young boy, and the very pure and honest advice of his mentor.
I dont know what its called, but this film and Malena are full of shots taken by the ground and expanding to the sky, very italian in my opinion.
Special mention to the little kid's performance. So adorable, innocent but smart like a fox as he is called.
If movies have been a significant part of your life growing up, I think you'll be very moved when watching Cinema Paradiso. A gentle caress to the heart.
When They See Us (2019)
Haunting and heartbreaking
I've only watched ep 1 and I almost threw up. Got me crying so hard, such an overwhelming felling to protect, defend this kids. It made me think everything is wrong, justice does not exists, the world should stop right now. Ok, I had to remind me that this is just a show... but is not.
When the cops interrogate and abuse the children and also the parents, it reminded me of one of Malcolm X's speech, when he said one day the afro american people would be so educated and united, that when they touch one of us, the whole community will respond back. The whole idea of self defense and social justice fits perfectly for this show: how does it come that the police act so violently? and no one defends the kids? because it was planned and made this way by white powerful people. I couldn't help to remember all the riots, unity and manifestations by black people that are happening today, and I couldn't be more glad about it. We need this more than ever. Enough is enough.
I just can't stop thinking about the moving acting and directing. We must protect AVA at all costs.
There will come a time when everyone is awake.
Euphoria (2019)
2 stars only for image
The hype about this show makes one think it would be mindblowing. It made me wonder, is it the acting too bad or the script just doesn't get any deeper? I was somehow reminded of 13 reasons why, and... wait, every teen show US has ever made. Every character was stereotypical and seemed try-hard to be what they were supposed to be like. Nina King and Zendaya truly tried to save this tho. It was so disappointing to watch Alexa Demie's performance, when I heard her say this show made her get out of her comfort zone. Like, the 3 words dialogue is your best work? I'm not trying to be mean, but I enjoy films and shows that make you think, feel, wonder, laugh and scream. Euphoria just made me think of many music videos that have inexplicable scenes just for the esthetic. Its the proof that makeup looks, outfits, lights and colors is not enough to make something special.
The Leftovers (2014)
Give it a chance
Mindblowing like nothing you've ever seen. Not one episode does not matter. Every word a character says is relevant to the trama. Every second is planned and meaningful. If you like quick and easy TV series you won't be able to handle Leftovers. But if you have felt the sensation of lack of purpose, pain, emptyness,, "you do understand" (finale of season 2).
There are many similarities with Lost, like the essence of a magic "something" wrapping the places and peoples lives where the story develops, and the construction of how, misteriously, each character interrelates with each other and with the plot.
You ever got that feeling, like you have just watched something so unique, so special, you won't ever find again the feeling it gave you? That is what The Leftovers made me feel. I would scream, cry with grief and joy, just be quiet for, like, half an hour after finishing an episode. Saddest part for me is I dont know anyone who has watched this series, so I really hope someone will read my review and give it a chance.
The Farewell (2019)
Heartwarming, lovely and gorgeous
I would exchange a decade of my life for just one day with my grandfather. Its so precious to see the love for family through Lulu Wang's eyes. Truly grateful for this soulful masterpiece.
