Borgia (2011)
A Near Perfect Balance between History and Drama
For many TV series, historic accuracies are often neglected to make way for the stories that the playwriters want to tell. Whereas filling a TV series with too much trivial historical details can drive people away from the show itself. This one, in my opinion manages to strike a balance between the two. However, I had to pull out Wikipedia to google some names to figure out the relationships between various characters during the first couple of episodes. It's a little hard to keep track of all the characters and what's going on with each of them at first, and I kinda felt I was thrown in the middle of an ongoing event rather than having properly introduced to the important characters during the first and second episodes. I like how it is already action packed since episode 1, but it is a bit confusing when I was still trying to match the names with the characters.
Anyway, this one is better than the one showtime put out. At least this series doesn't cut the story short, but instead finishes the whole story of Cesare Borgia.
Carlos, Rey Emperador (2015)
A Must-Watch if you love European History
Faithfully and respectfully portrayed most major historical figures appeared in the series. A good balance of both historical facts and intriguing minor details with sound historical base. The costumes are appropriate to the characters and some were even directly derived from the portraits done by Titian and other painters of that time.
It is reasonable that other important event that didn't directly pertain to Carlos are downplayed in the series (For example, the grandfather of Carlos, Emperor Maximilian didn't even appear, even though his death was a crucial event to Carlos' ascension to Imperial throne). Combat scenes were few, despite Carlos' extensive military career in the Italian Wars against France. It is also important to bear in mind that with the focus of this series on the main protagonist, Carlos I (Charles V), his life, and his kingship,
