The Gray Man (2022)
The ending was just Inconclusive
It started great, with a conspiracy, a drive with proof, a mysterious boss and a spy on run for his life. I wanted to see how the mystery surrounding that boss would be uncovered and then they turned into a generic kill everyone to save the innocent girl child. By the end there was no big reveal about the boss, no drive with evidence, no clear end. Seems like in an attempt to make a franchise out of this movie, they deliberately left out these things but in the end they made the story worse.
Acting was fine but there was this weird bird eye view camera shots everywhere for no reason. Seems to me like someone was poorly trying to imitate Sam Raimi's style.
Brave New World (2020)
I'd love to live in a world like this but...
It is a good show. Never read the book so I do not care if it is faithful to the books or not but for what it is, it is good. I'd want some Soma for myself. Acting was convincing. Cinematography was ok. Art & set design were top-notch.
On a side note, I'd love to live in a world like this but with some minor adjustments like everything should be accessible to everyone. While everyone should also be treated equally no matter whatever work they are assigned to do. Savage ways do not work because they aren't working right now.
Ron's Gone Wrong (2021)
Great social commentary and the best depiction of the current state of our society.
Spoilers, Sort of:
It's a world where a small startup which went big created a device that can be connected to a social network and act as metaverse. That device pretends to be friend with the user (as the creator of the device envisioned) but the company executives want the device to spy on its users as well as mine their data to show them ads. But the users are sheep. They want the new device because everyone has one. The device that was made to facilitate people to make more friends turns into something necessary to have friends. In the midst of all this, one guy gets a defected piece of the device and finds that the defected version is actually better. It was also conveyed that us, the people with all the technologies to make new connections are still alone. One more topic which was portrayed on in this masterpiece was the current state of social media trolls where your one small mistake will be scrutinized to the point that it will be unbearable for you, mentally.
The style of animation was great at least for kids. The pacing was good too. No complains on the overarching structure of the movie as it is a movie for kids, first.
Who Killed Captain Alex? (2010)
The best movie.
VJ Emmie's voiceover, some great fight choreography (it's actually better and the fact that all actors are self trained martial artists is awesome), some genuinely funny dialogues (da best) and good acting has made this movie one of the better action movie. Considering the budget (US$200 approx.), this movie feels like a gem. While watching the VJ version, I laughed throughout the movie and I laughed again when I viewed this movie the second time and the third time and fourth and so on. The shocking thing is, I found this movie while searching for the worst movies ever made. I'm just glad that I found it. Now, this is a genre in itself and Wakaliwood is thriving.
Ps. There's a lot of social commentary in this movie and the VJ dialogues are self aware (fun).
Old (2021)
It's more of a philosophical horror movie.
This movie is good. Because it is directed by M. Night Shyamalan, people keep excepting a twist ending but there is none, instead it dead with the fear of getting old, the chaos and anxiety that comes with it, the mid life crisis and having a soul of a kid when you are an adult. And if you can connect it with the time you are wasting doing nothing, it is horrifying. The acting, at times, is sloppy though. But the atmosphere is tense. And there's an ending, but not a twisted one.
Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018)
The perfect satire.
This is the perfect satire. Also they rickrolled alot of people.
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Most underappreciated movie sequel
After 14 years and watching it for 15+ times, I think, this is the most underappreciated sequel. I liked it when I watched it the first time especially, the evil Peter Parker (he was the best interpretation how the symbiote will affect that version of Peter Parker). Then, the death of Harry was inevitable and necessary. Three villains were the best thing that happened to the movie. One redeemed and sacrificed himself, one was not entirely evil but need made him evil and he sided with the good, the third one was the true villain but even he had layers as Eddie Brock. Had there been a Spider-Man 4, we would have gotten characters that could have been leaps and bound richer, character wise cuz this was the base. One aspect is that this movie was kind of a turning point in Peter Parker's life as he became more mature. Other technical aspects like cinematography, editing, VFX were top notch.
This movie is slowly turning into a classic and still being talked about extensively, for good or for worse. And it still will.
The Nevers (2021)
Mind-blowing!
This show went from 7/10 for first episode to 9/10 for the entire 6 episodes aired till date (with 5th and 6th getting perfect 10 from me while 2nd, 3rd and 4th episode being solid 9/10). It just improves episode by episode. When I thought that the 5th episode was shocking enough, they dropped the sixth episode, which changed the entire course of this series.
You can say whatever you wanna say about Joss Whedon but that guy is brilliant.
Must watch. I'm sceptical about Season 1 part 2 though as they've changed the showrunner. (Joss directed three episodes while being executive producer and showrunner. He also wrote episode 1).
Loki (2021)
One or two star reviews are biased.
Episode 6 opened a possibility of getting Spiderman 4 that I've been waiting for, since 2007. 10/10 for that. But also for Kang (kinda), betrayal, season 2 announcement, better visual effects, better colors, cinematography, dialogues, the overall mixed emotional tone & for great performances.
Monster Hunter (2020)
This is the most faithful Video Game Adaptation.
60 Million USD, that's the budget. The monsters are one of the best part about this movie. CGI is wonky in the dark scenes but it way better than most of the movies that costs double the budget of this one.
The actions, when shot good, are so similar to the games that it feels like you are watching a live action game. This point is when I decided, that I'll like this movie.
The plot is: survive. The ending is one of the most abrupt ending.
The monster battles are worth it. There are some fun scenes here and there. Also, whatever they show us in the trailer is in a way the first 15 mins and the entire movie. The end is where the actual plot will start.
If you are not into mindless action, don't watch it till the time they'll make the sequel with complete story.
If you are a fan of Predator, watch this.
Cinematography is really good when the wanna show the monsters and the world. Action sequences are filled with a lot of cuts at place, you might like that or dislike.
This is as much of a Tony Jaa movie as this is a Milla Jovovich's.
Willy's Wonderland (2021)
Love it or hate it no in between.
This is one of those movie where you're either gonna hate it to the core or love it with all your heart. For me it's the second. I loved it. This is one of those movies where actions are louder than words. Literally.
The Expanse (2015)
This is the best Sci-fi show of 2010s
Been watching this for the last 4 or 5 years and after finishing S05E05, I can say that this is the best Sci-fi show of 2010s even the best sci-fi show since 2000.
The world building is really great and on point. Apart from some elements, the plot of the expanse can be termed as the most realistic. The politics, the motives, the actions and their repercussions are all so well aligned that you'll fell like you are watching something which is real and not Science fiction.
The CGI is top notch, like better that 95% of the shows featuring outer space. The VFX team who worked on this show did an excellent job. I've seen worse effect in movies costing 200 million USD.
The acting part is well taken care of by it's cast. And every character which is there for maybe 4-5 episode even if a secondary one, has something to contribute.
The cinematography is just awesome. The action sequences are top notch and thrill level is over the chart.
For the first 3 seasons, ever episode is better than the previous one. Season 4 is a little dull for the first half but then picks up right after episode 4. Season 5 is enticing and fast paced as of e05.
This is 10/10.
The Internship (2013)
A Misunderstood Movie.
First of all, this movie is definitely not Wedding Crashers. I would not even characterize this movie as a comedy. I would say this a Comedy-Drama.
There are no quirky jokes in this movie like wedding crashers but some great moments. If you are expecting Wedding Crashers, just don't.
This is a feel good movie. And is actually set in a slightly fictionalized version of one of the most well know company in the world "Google". The story is of two 40 something guys who just lost their jobs, hunting for a new one and end up getting into one of the internship program at Google. The way their character arcs grow during the entire length of the movie is of sole importance. Also, here comedy is just the byproduct. You might not get a laugh but will definitely get to learn a lot of life lessons in a lighthearted way.
The set designs and Google's campus environment is so on point in here. They also nailed the work culture of most of the tech companies. Also the portrayal of interns is so relatable. And 40 something people do find it difficult to get their desired job, especially someone who has a lot of experience and that is how it is portrayed in this movie, albeit with some modifications, for comedy purpose.
The thing is, when it came out, people either perceived it as an advertisement for Google (I don't know why people creep out when a movie shows an actual company, like for god sake, in real world, people do work in these companies and most of them are actually happy to work there) or wrongly compared with Wedding Crashers. This is a genuine and good movie and is on a league of its own.
Fringe (2008)
Season 1-4 brilliant, Season 5 (Skip it).
While the initial storyline is a little bit slow in season one but by the end of the season, there's a complete 360 as far as the plot goes.
Season 2 is by far the best season to actually explore and curate a lot of origin stories for the characters.
Season 3 is the best Fringe season; the storylines are so intriguing that it keeps you at the edge of the seat all the time.
Season 4 is basically season 1 with a twist and that's where they failed. The first 18 episodes are really good but then all of a sudden, they introduced some elements which are unique but useless. And those useless elements are the basic plot for season 5.
Now after completing season 5, first of all you are going to notice a lot of plot-holes.
Spoilers ahead!!!
So, the series is based on parallel universe, alternate timeline, time travel and other sciency (not an actual word but it sounds cool, so I used it) stuff. And this is the only series where you'll frequently see the creators introducing new characters, plot points and will emphasize on them for some episodes, only to abandon later on as the season progress.
Also, in season five, once they removed the observers from existence, so in that's scenario Walternate should never be able to see September and in turn, the real Peter should be cured by Walternate. Which In return will ensure that Walter will now be childless as his son died. I mean, if they remove the Observers from the timeline then no observer will be able to interfere with anything. And the first instance of an Observer messing up the timeline is when September interrupted Walternate.
Tenet (2020)
It is Nolan's worst.
Nolan screwed it up with the story and presented in a really complex manner which a layman will not be able to deduce even after watching it the third time.
First of all, the plot is very simple and predictable, one you might have seen a lot of time. I'll not go into details but, in a line, it's the same old "A secret agency trying to save the world from a Russian mafia who wants to destroy the world by setting off a bomb." This specific formula is overused in movies specifically James Bond and Mission Impossible. At least with those movies you know what's going on and with the latter you might get some unforgettable action sequences.
What nolan tried to do here was to spice it up a little, add some sci-fi elements, specifically, time inversion and time travel (time inversion in a way is time travel at normal speed and if you'll perceive it this way, you'll be able to understand the movie in a better sense). But the implementation is very confusing. The pacing of the movie is really fast without any character development. Maybe if you have a degree in Quantam Physics then you might be able to understand, otherwise no you can't. I'm pretty sure, Nolan wrote a linear script but accidentally put those pages in randon order.
The acting part is well taken care off. The characters are convincing and justify whatever parts they were given. But, none of them were relatable.
Cinematography is good but not great.
VFX are great. All the special effects used in this movie, be it physical effects or CGI, is different, and looks good. All the time inversion sequences are pleasure to watch even though you can't make out any of it.
This is definately a step down from Interstellar, The Prestige, Memento, Inception and his other movies. Even primer and The Triangle were easy to understand.
Pro tip: Watch Edge of Tomorrow, if you haven't already or if you have than you can watch again. That movie have everything that this one is lacking.
Interstellar (2014)
It is definately a better sci fi movie.
One of the Christopher Nolan's masterpiece. This movie dealt into a lot hypothetical theories about time travel and black hole. The direction of the movie is very crisp. The actors justify the vision of the director and looks convincing in the role. The cinematography is brilliant. A special thanks to the VFX team for blending great looking special effects.
Bichhoo (2000)
This movie is good.
When I first saw this movie, I thought that it was ok. But after researching it again recently, I came to the conclusion that for a Bollywood thriller, this one is actually very good. Though storyline is thin and the plot is taken from a French movie, this movie still have some chilling scenes and depth in the relationship between the characters. Especially for a movies from the start of the millennium.
