An amusing art historical comedy
23 July 2017
I thoroughly enjoyed this film that I viewed in the original German/French soundtrack. I found it visually spectacular. There was so much attention paid to detail in the sets. From an art history point of you one was transported through time with the changing styles of art. The actors were convincing and very amusing. I'd watch it again!

One of biggest waste of time I've seen for ages
14 November 2010
This "romantic" film was just so depressing and so unrealistic - it made it impossible for me to feel any sympathy or empathy for the 2 main characters and their desperate and desolate lives. I kept watching in the vain hope I'd find some redeeming feature but failed miserably. One has to have a touch of masochism to sit through this 2 hour endurance course!

I came away with nothing that enriched my heart or mind in any way. It was just depressing watching these characters on their self-destructive binge! How love could sprout or thrive under such conditions and with such false motives is beyond me. One could only watch it in a detached way as it was just impossible to understand or identify with the main characters. Avoid it like the plague!

An entertaining and believable quest for gay happiness
30 November 2006
I wasn't looking for or expecting a low budget soft porn movie (in spite of the poster) so wasn't disappointed by the movie. The movie successfully explored the search for a gay soul mate, not just quickie sex that sadly seems to characterize so many lonely gay relationships. It also displayed the latent intolerance to homosexuality that is still rife even in enlightened societies and the tragedy of being a closet gay trapped in a straight marriage. It was nice to see two gay men portrayed as "normal" human beings without having their gayness stigmatized or emphasized as their only character trait. It is an enjoyable film - not too deep but entertaining and believable.
