Rota Comando (2009)
8/10
A good film despite some flaws
20 August 2013
Rota Commando has a good script and it's a very entertaining film. I couldn't believe when I saw the 4.2 rate, but then I noticed that only 32 viewers had rated this movie. It's a story told from the point of view of a policeman, it's based on his book, so it's not surprising that the movie is not focused in the abuses committed by the Brazilian security forces, which are quite spread in the news and social networks. Maybe this is a reason to the so low IMDb rating since it glorifies that specific police work. The main flaw of the film is the terrible sound, sometimes too high and sometimes too low, but this is in a way understandable, since it's an independent production. The acting, IN SOME SITUATIONS, is also not so good. All in all, it's a good movie and I rate it 8.

Great movie, powerful realistic message.

Warning: Spoilers
Almost all humans in almost all societies are deeply connected with a sense of unfairness, hierarchy and to the presence of perversity since an early age. School can be and is more often than it seems an authentic institution of psychological cruelty, mainly between students.

This film explores this subject in a very personal way for each student. The different perspectives about a given moment enrich the story. It's a film that reminds me of Gus Van Sant's Elephant, not only in the case of the different perspectives but also in some camera movements filming style. It's very well done. The testimonies of the students contribute to an even more noted personal perspective of each one.

Truly engaging, a very good and realistic movie.

Maybe I would like it more if I was a fiction comics fan

The weak point of this movie is the absurdity of the story itself, it's so unreal that the film could never "catch me" into it. Of course that my preferences have a huge importance in this affirmation and I am not a fan of this kind of comics.

Although the story wasn't engaging at all, the film has a great cast and the interpretations are very good.

With a story so unreal the film is watchable due to its nice action scenes - it's really great in special effects. I give it a 6 out of 10.

Positive - saved by cinematography, action scenes and interpretations

Negative - a totally unreal story, but it may be good for fiction comics fans.

Absolutely boring
2 September 2009
A very bad film.

I saw it at its premier in Porto. One of the few things this film has in a positive way is the look and filming of the city.

The story could be told in an interesting way, because the idea is not that bad. But no, it's absolutely boring. Maybe this is one of those "for elite" films, but what an elite, it must be a very little one.

It's also a long film for its content. 110 minutes that did not bring me anything substantial, except, as I specified before, the positive point, the city.

It's a pity that a movie filmed in such beautiful places is almost the antithesis of that beauty in what refers to the script.
