Rebirth (2011)
The most positive uplifting 9/11 film ever if there is such a thing
The film follows 5 people on their journey of healing from one of the most horrific days in the history of the world. It's amazing how strong these people are and how they are able to move past, yet never forgetting what happened or who they lost. They all take a different journey and the processing of healing is different for everyone.
The reason I felt compelled to write a review, beyond how beautiful the film was, is because it had something no other 9/11 film I've ever seen had. Or should I say what it didn't have. It didn't show any images of the twin towers burning, falling or the planes flying into them. I thought that was a very wise and sensitive decision by whoever made this film. By now everyone has seen those horrific images and it would have added nothing positive to a film. Instead you can focus on the healing instead of reliving September 11.
Coming 2 America (2021)
When you think of trash, think of Coming 2 America
The outhouses in Zamunda don't stink as bad as this movie.
Justified (2010)
The 10 star rating is justified
I'm so glad I stumbled across this amazing show. The characters are all great from the charismatic star Raylen Givens who people love to say his name. He must have been called his full name about 100 times in the series, especially by Boyd Crowder. Boyd Crowder's way with words and accent is great to listen to. And I can't help but notice almost every woman on this show is a smoke show with most of the focus is on Ava. And for good reason.
The story flows perfect and all the interconnections in the plot are tied tight together. No plot holes come to mind. There is violence, language, and a little sex, but for once it seems to be done in a tasteful way if that's possible. With some other shows or movies I have to turn off because that stuff is way over the top bordering on satanic or cruel. Not here, and especially not in the earlier seasons. It's almost like the show was written by a really good hearted man appropriately uses those sins to spice up the story line. Being an old fashioned conservative, I appreciate that.
Finally, it's been mentioned before by others but I must state it again. The writing on this show is second to none. The man responsible for the witty, humorous and well tied together dialogue is Elmore Leonard. I tip my cowboy hat to his late soul. Rest in peace sir and thank you for this amazing contribution to humanity. It's just that good. I look forward to re-watching this one years down the Harlen line.
Compliance (2012)
It happened at a pizza place I used to work at
I see some people questioning whether this actually took place or not. I can tell you it did at a chain pizza place in NW PA while I was in high school circa 2002 and that the movie is pretty true to what actually took place with slight variations.
I only learned after the fact what happened because #1 I was too busy working while we had a skeleton crew and #2 because anytime I asked the assistant manager what was going on he would brush me off.
My assistant manager had a teenage girl, a girl who I dated briefly, locked in the bathroom and strip searched her because the guy on the phone told him she had stolen something. I knew something was off, but I remember thinking she must be either sick or emotionally upset and that was why she was hiding in the bathroom. I never overheard any of the phone conversation and the details of what happened were relayed to me the next time I went to work.
Now that I'm a bit older when I look back I think being a teenager I was too naive and if I was in that situation again at my age now I would have recognized there was something more wrong. The assistant manager was a middle aged, kind of fat guy with a pony tale and socially awkward and not the brightest guy. I can understand how he came to fall for this.
It really upsets me thinking that there are people out there who can think this stuff up and carry it out. I understand why people doubt this to be true because you think how could the manager let this happen and then how could the girl actually comply. I don't understand myself what was going through the heads of my manger or my friend that night in 2002 when it happened in my hometown. The police ended up arriving while I was still working and arrested my manager. I clocked out for the night wondering what the heck had happened and I never saw or heard from either of them again.
The Mist (2007)
They overdid it with the "preacher" lady
There was nothing good about the conspiracy loving Miss what's her name. She was vile. Foul mouthed. Threatened to cut out the soldiers tongue and riled up the crowd until he got stabbed. All while holding the Bible in her hand.
This movie could have been so much better if it wasn't constantly trying to mock God. It needed more focus on some of the other characters and less on the preacher lady.
