Supernatural: The Heroes' Journey (2020)
Disgraceful discredit to the characters
This season did a lot of retconning, but none more than this episode.
There's a reason the boys areas good as they are - training, experience, perseverance and heart. They have definitely survived way more than they should, and yeah Dean should be suffering because of his diet etc lol, but they should not be struggling with basic tasks and losing all hand-eye coordination. This is "bad luck rabbit's foot" level stuff, not "lose God's extra favour in hunting" level stuff.
It's a major discredit to their skill and their resolve to say that ALL of it was God's machinations down to Sam knowing not to touch a boiling pot ffs.
Most scenes were uncomfortable to watch as they felt so out of character. Especially Sam rolling on the floor after drinking the hot sauce. Like, come on.
I feel like the writers' room and the directors should have re-watched the show before making the last season, or at least had someone around who knows every detail of the show. Because I was very sick of the inconsistencies.
Kim Possible (2019)
Contrary to popular opinion...
I was apprehensive going in because I loved the show growing up. But I really enjoyed it.
It was super cheesy. Over the top. Predictable. Divergent from the TV show. But somehow really fun. I leaned into the cheesiness and laughed at it.
I thought Shego and Drakken were great... the makeup and blue veins/scar were a good live action substitute for green/blue skin. Ron sounded very much like Ron and though he maybe leaned too much into it, made me nostalgic for the original. I enjoyed the callbacks like the villains on Villainstagram lol.
I was sad there was no Monique. Also no dialogue for Kim's dad, but someone had to take care of the tweebs :P
Who knows, maybe I'll rewatch the TV show then hate the movie. But I enjoyed it for what it is.
Supernatural: Carry On (2020)
The best we were going to get
Not sure what people expected. It's Supernatural. We know what the writers are like. The season hasn't exactly been the best.
Let me be clear, I HATED Dean saying "it was always gonna end this way." That was the worst dialogue of the episode. I've been deluding myself into thinking he said that for Sam's benefit, because he's long since accepted that it DOESN'T have to end this way (see job application on his desk). However, there had to be tragedy. It's not fair. But it's what happens. The intention was that it was a quiet passing, on their own terms and in a way that could happen to any hunter, not the world-ending spectacle that Chuck wanted. It could have been either brother. But they had to pick one, because if neither died they'd keep hunting/getting dragged into hunting, and if both died it wouldn't be so tragic. As for people saying there was no character development over 15 years, I think there was because the brothers learnt to let go. As long as Dean didn't really mean that "it was always gonna end this way."
They could've tried harder to incorporate certain characters. Cas and Jack should have been in the episode, full stop. And Eileen. Even despite COVID-19. I wish they'd waited to film, to be honest - it would have been so much better for having all the supporting characters in Dean's heaven and in Sam's life. Family don't end in blood and sure, it's always centered around the brothers, but they have never been the be-all/end-all of the show - see Bobby, Ellen, Jo, John, Cas for starters. Some people, however, feel that their absence adds to the feeling of loss.
Now, writing aside, the acting was near-perfect. I cried most of the way through.
I've made my peace with it. Perfect? No. Pretty good considering the writing of the show the past how many seasons? Yes. Kripke approved? Yes. Good enough for me.
