Leave the World Behind (2023)
Just one central scene away from a classic
I don't see what's wrong with the finale; everything seems evident, at least to the audience.
The cast was fantastic, as was the mood. This is not a conspiracy war film, but rather a story about ordinary people caught up in a dangerous scenario. Writing is occasionally off, but mostly nice. One thing is needed, however, to make it a treasure in this genre: a central action scene...We expected a handful of sequences to develop into something more, but they never did. First there was the boat striking the shore, then there was the Spanish woman on the road, then there were planes, then Danny the Prepper, and lastly there was the Bunker house.
All of those were opportunities to develop a single focus plot with side characters and moral quandaries, as Danny had when asked for medicine...but it appears that writers became exhausted or couldn't locate the common grounds, so they left it as is.
That's why I'd give it a 7.5 instead of a high 8 or even a 9 if it featured some more intense scenes.
Ending is, uh, catastrophic war, not sure what would you expect if that happens...
Vjeran Tomic: The Spider-Man of Paris (2023)
No shiny cars, no "wolfs" and silly spending portraits. Real life human thief. Exceptional.
I haven't had a clue about this guy and didn't expect a lot from this title. Most of titles like this are just built around few interesting facts told by people who weren't directly involved, like neighbors, relatives and local grocery shop owners etc. And that's fine while you are doing housekeeping to listen around...but THIS one is being told by the man himself, and you will not take your eyes of the screen so forget about ironing. He is not your usual criminal, he is confident, self educated, polite and well behaved. He is not aggressive neither he has any deviant patterns usually seen from this guys. Just not to spoil too much, piece is well directed with appropriate dose of drama, action and mystery and it is not pretending to be anything more than it is. Just as the main character. I would rate it 8.5 in this category, but I am giving it high 9 just to push it up. Great watch!
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
Bad reviews are totally unreasonable. Big Dexter fan here.
End scene was inevitable and only one road end that is possible for Dexter. All those bad reviews can come only from regrets why they didn´t stretch this on more seasons. And we all know that "stretching" recipe is not quite good way to go, especially when we remember some of Dexter´s seasons. My ONLY concern is Jack Alcott. He was great in THIS role, but he definitely IS NOT ABLE TO LEAD. All Dexter fans should watch this season with joy. Haters can go hunting for fun.
Hacks (2021)
A bit overrated but enjoyable
It is easy going with straight forward script. Great acting and spot on cast. Jokes are nothing special, if there is any deepness here, it comes from personal struggles where we all can find something familiar. My wife gave it great review so I will pass it to the World. Fantastic show to watch while ironing clothes.
Friends: The Reunion (2021)
Meet Jennifer, Courtney, Lisa, Matt, Mathew and David. Very nice people.
It was joy really, that was the first time that we had an opportunity to see them all together as who they really are and not just as Friends characters. I don't understand all those comments how they should be friends in real life through all these 17 years. That is just a nonsense. Like Martha said, friends are your family for one period of your life before you start your own one. Then it naturally comes to an end, everyone go in their own direction struggling to provide and to survive life. Wonder if all of you keep connections with all the great people and friends you met in your lives? Of course you are not.
Was struck when Matt said how he still can not watch himself as a Joey because he was Joey and he knows that all of his lines are not natural - Lol... Funny how we keep forgetting that they were just working, like every one of us. That was just the script they act upon, accidentally becoming 90´s zeitgeist.
Matthew put it nicely when said every time they would bump to each other on some social event, they would stick to that person and politely ditch the one who they came with. That was great and I bet many ditched persons watched The Reunion and laughed.
When Jennifer was showing all the hidden spots on the set where she used to hide the script lines you could tell that this is not a new episode of Friends.
And finally when Lisa is asked if she ever contemplated about new episodes, her answer is a spot on. Friends had a beautiful happy ending. All stories finished and making new episodes would only mean that you need to reopen closed book, complicate something in order to develop new stories what would be utterly stupid. We all like it as it is.
So no, they are not insincere and fake, they are the most intimate and sincere they have ever been on TV screens.
