Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)
Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me
After watching this I immediately went online and purchased The Twilight Saga. Oh Twilight, maybe I judged you a little too harshly.
Why 3-stars? The visual elements of this movie are great, as with any Snyder movie tbh. The guy has a good eye, i will give him that. I also enjoyed some of the characters, mainly the bad guy.
Otherwise, bad plot, bad pacing, way too much slow-mo farming, cringey dialogue.
There were so many elements of this story that could have been improved with more input. Now I know Snyder intends on releasing his Snyder Cut versions of these films which supposedly flesh out the story better. I'm not holding my breathe.
Undercover Brother 2 (2019)
Avoid
This is awful. Michael Jai White lacks the charisma Eddie Griffin had as UB. Jokes fall flat. It lacks the depth of the original. I forced myself to watch the whole thing hoping it'd get better, wasted my time. Avoid.
Moonfall (2022)
Fun movie all around
I didn't have any expectations going into this. All i knew is it was an Emmerich movie, which means destruction.
IT BLEW ME AWAY. In a sea of remakes, reboots, rehashes, and re-releases, this is a fresh idea executed very well. The story was never boring, it kept me from looking at my phone the whole way through.
The world ending has been done many times, but this particular method is new to me. There are slower touching moments, and they're well done.
I recommend this to anyone looking for pointless fun.
Witch Hunt (2021)
Avoid
Its movies like this that make me wonder how somethings get approved and some don't. I'm sure the writer/director meant well, you can get a gist of the political undertones it tries to convey. But it never really gets any job done. Its neither a good allegory or witch movie. Never tense, nor happy. It just drones along. Anytime you expect some sort of explanation, you're left empty save for a few miss-and-you'll-be-lost lines near the end. Fresh of watching this, the only thing magic was how it made 30-minutes feel like an hour. At best this should have been a concept for someone to pick up and fleshed out.
None of the faults should be laid of the actors/resses or crew, they all did their jobs, and did it to the best of their ability.
Avoid. Honestly, I see movies as art at 24-frames-per-second, and try not to dismiss another person's vision because art is subjective. This was terrible, even for my low standards.
If the writer sees my comment, I think you should work on this idea! There is something here, the trailer brought me too it, the initial idea is promising. Flesh out the world and story. A modern day world with witches is a good pitch.
The Resort (2021)
Much like a sign they see in the forest, STAY AWAY
I watched the movie based on the trailer, which is pretty good; makes it look like a decent B-horror. NOPE. Not by far. Aside for taking way too long for anything of substance to happen, the audio is poor, the acting is poor, and the dialogue is forced. The only redeeming factor is what brief moments we see of Hawaii's beauty. By the time anything happens, its over. I'm going to spoil it to save you 75-minutes:
They get to the resort, the half-faced girl stalks them for a bit, kills the blonde one. Turns in curly-haired boy into a zombie, who kills the other guy. The main girl is explaining the story to a cop, who, inexplicably turns into a zombie; then the main girl inexplicably turns into a zombie. And then its over.
There is no story. No semblance of reason. Nothing redeeming of any sort.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Amazing, tense movie
I cannot believe how thick some people are. I read reviews for every film I watch after I've watched it as to not spoil my feelings about the movie. After watching this I was blown away by how effectively silence was used to create tension. The atmosphere goes from aloof to dangerous in literally the drop of a picture frame. A Quiet Place is a well thought out, what feels like, an extended short film. It tells the story of a family living in a world where they can make no sound. Some of their choices are questionable, but that's how real life is.
SPOILERS from this point on:
- people asking where the aliens came from. WHO CARES. they're there, deal with it. When you cash out at your local supermarket do you ask the cashier for their autobiography? They are monsters that have no senses except very sensitive hearing and long blade like arms.
- to the people asking why the near-then-actually-giving-birth mother didn't stop to pull out the nail on the stairs while she was having contractions and hiding from a monster. I don't know, my previous sentence seems kind of self explanatory.
- to the people who think they could have done a better job. Up until this movie I'm going to guess that you wouldn't have thought to be prepared for a world like this. Nor have the skills to do what the father's character was doing. "why don't they wear slippers?" have you heard slippers on hardwood floors? or the slapping noise they make when you pick your foot up at regular pace. Yeah, I questioned hardwood floors too, poor choice in flooring for a quiet world; but smart to paint the non-creaky spots.
- having a baby would be a bad idea, but hey, it happens in the best of times.
All in all, great film. Can't wait to see the special features.
Grown Ups (2010)
A look back on summer days
i don't know about the rest of the people who reviewed this movie, but it was hilarious! it was a good old' family comedy. the boys Adam, Kevin, Chris, David and rob to a great job bringing back the old days of summer. when kids used to go outside from morning to night to play; and not sit inside glued to a screen or any sort. i didn't try to predict anything, i just say back and watched the movie.
its a 10 our of 10 for me simply because it was entertaining from beginning to end. even the stupid parts; like the night time water bottle scene. its was stupid and pointless, but funny. and then it rolls into another funny scene. the movie has heart, i'm telling you, you should go see it despite what other people say; they probably hold their phones like they're drinking tea, little finger up. don't over look this movie. it's a great family movie, has constant jokes and gags. and we should all take something away from it, nostalgia. i know i miss those days.
take this movie for what it is at face value. its just a bunch of men being...well, boys.
