4: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)
Are The Other Reviewers watching the same movie I saw?
This movie was terrible. I swear that I think that the people posting reviews on this site now are all on the studios PAYROLL. I do admit this movie did have some good points.. It was MUCH better then the first one, but by no means a good movie.. Wooden acting and zero chemistry plagued this one from the on start. The script was pedestrian and made previous fantastic four mythology a JOKE. Come on, they made Galactus a cloud? He was only the most powerful character in the marvel universe and all he gets is a whimpy cloud.. Whats up with that? On that note, I would definitely say this is a must watch on VIDEO or cable. And try and get the video for free from the library. Don't encourage them to make more movies like this.
My Life with Morrissey (2003)
Great idea, terrible storytelling!
I am a big listener of the smiths and morrissey.. I am also a huge movie lover.. being both of these I was really ANXIOUS to see this movie when I got wind of it... With that being said, this is a sad day in SMITHS/MOVIE lore. Morrissey is not in tune with modern movie culture(he has not seen a movie made past 1970), nor does he subscribe to any particular fandom (he probably has the fewest tv/movie appearances of any major pop star).. I hope for his sake that he has not seen this movie.... Why couldn't they pick a modern rock star (fred durst, marilyn manson, dave grohl, etc) rather then tarnish Morrissey's already misunderstood image. This movie centers around "Janet" a schizophrenic psychopath smiths fan that talks to the morrissey posters on her walls. She is an assistant at an television studio(I think it's nickelodeon). Everyone in this movie must have went to the William Shatner school of acting. Her bosses and coworkers overreact spastically to almost everything she does. All of the office scenes with her coworkers are PAINFUL to watch because of this steroid driven acting. Eventually we learn that she spends her evenings going to places where morrissey has been sighted. Apparently she has been going to the same places for years asking the same nagging questions. Why hasn't she been committed yet? A better movie would have answers for this. This movie does not. The one good scene is when she does meet Morrissey.. The actor who plays morrissey really does look like a young morrissey and seems to be the only actor in the movie who isn't overacting. That scene is brief however and we are forced into a confusing mess for the rest of it. SMITHS/MORRISSEY fans, STAY away. Lastly if this movie were about a "real" moz/smith's fan she would have never left her apartment(or at least wouldn't have been so expressive about it). One more gripe, not 1 smith's/moz song is played in it's original form or as a cover. Is this girl obsessed with his music or just his picture??? 1/10 rating..
Vanilla Sky (2001)
Why?
- SLIGHT SPOILER - I have just come from seeing this movie, and I really don't know what to think. It was a downward spiral into insanity peppered with cinematic darkness. A visual feast of harrowing images amid confusion. I was enjoying this movie very much. Then it all came to a screeching halt in the last half hour. It could have been such a great movie. What a shame. Had he ended it right when Cruise and Russel were informed of "LE"'s purpose and maybe faded to the "Vanilla Sky", it would have been such a cool movie. But no, we get a VERY long drawn out ending that insulted the audience's intelligence. I am so upset by this Hallmark card ending.. It ruined the movie. I hope Crowe figures out his error, and releases a director's cut. Otherwise, I never want to waste my time watching this crappy movie again! 1 Star... Wait for cable (free cable!).......
