On the Edge of Destruction: The Frank Slide Story (2003)
High-definition docu-drama of the Frank Slide
24 September 2006
Beautifully photographed, a clever docu-drama of the time and events surrounding North America's deadliest rock slide, this film uses high definition video combined with historic photographs, animation sequences, and live action dramatizations to convey the drama and impact of the Frank Slide of 1903. It illustrates the theoretical reasons for the slide, including the mining of the coal seams deep within Turtle Mountain in the Crowsnest Pass (Alberta). Actors play the roles of the citizens of the Town of Frank and others who came to the scene of the disaster to assess it and to help in the process of recovery. Overall it is a fine effort and is shown daily in the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre (Crowsnest Pass) which is open year-round.
