It Came from Below (2021)
Generous rating
Sweet Jesus, this was a terrible mess. Too dark during the few action scenes. The main characters, hell all the characters except the monster, were just complete morons. Who in the world goes monster hunting in a cave with any supplies other than a headlamp??!! The story is a disjointed incoherent mess. Nothing is explained beyond "dad died. I felt bad I never believed the cave monster story, so I'm gonna get proof!" The monster is the only likeable character. Can't blame it for protecting itself from a bunch of idiots. They had lots of opportunities to just walk out the cave.
Last of the Grads (2021)
Horrible overall
Not much good going on here. The beginning was so bad, I skipped through it. Good lord, the fans of officer Greg are actually right. Sadly his was some of the best acting of the entire movie.
Awake (2021)
Poorly executed
Interesting concept, but much of the movie was so dark it was pointless. Something happens, who needs to see it? Just have a black screen with people screaming with sounds of stuff breaking.🙄 Personally I prefer to see what's going on in a movie rather than stare at a black screen and wonder what's going on.
Rebirth (2020)
Hilarious
It was too hard to take seriously when a guy keeps referring to another man his own age as "kid" and "child". This dude is at least 30 and everyone is treating him as if he is 10. Even consoling him when he sobs in fear, whining that he wants to go home. Not sure if he's supposed to be mentally handicapped and that's why? It was just funny to see and the zombies are hilariously bad with glowing eyes. The rev was a huge downer, not gonna lie, currently halfway through and can't wait for him to die. Didn't realize this was a remake, nor have I seen the original so not sure if it's supposed to be serious or funny. It's definitely funny and the acting isn't bad.
Demon Nun (2020)
Garbage
Tried to watch because I love horror movies, but everything was just so bad. I mean this makes the worst syfy channel movies look like transcendent blockbuster works of art. Obviously zero standards or f@#$s given with regards to script, directing, acting, etc.
Illuminate (2020)
Interesting concept but terrible all around
First off, the entire movie is narrated by a kid. Pretty annoying and hard to follow. Rather than telling a story, you get snippets of action combined with an all over the place narration. The narration is poorly done, a young girl is blandly reciting facts..."my brother disappeared when I was 10. I had a good relationship with my mother. She never got over it. When I was 14, my grandma said I was special. I told her about my dreams and she said I could astral project. My grandma was looking for evidence of aliens on the mountain. My grandfather always believed they lived under the mountain. He disappeared around the same time as my brother." Yikes. Nothing interesting happens. Oh yeah she can pull objects through time so she rescues her brother.🙄🙄
Archenemy (2020)
Just bad
Started out ok, but the girl blue was annoying. Terrible overall. The main character is rewarded for his good choices, honesty, and integrity by watching as his drug dealing horrible sister blue gets superpowers. Nice message for a superhero movie. Make bad choices and you can end up with the money you stole and inherit superpowers from the actual hero that died trying to fix your mistakes. And at the end, she's called "a new hero". Yeah based on her history, more like new supervillian. Not familiar with any of the main actors, but the guy playing max fist definitely carried this lemon of a movie. Honestly would watch a sequel about him, too bad this was just a set up for something featuring the horrible girl. Definitely not interested!
Alone (2020)
#alive
It's an interesting twist on zombies, definitely worth watching. The original version #alive is better, but the cast does a great job.
Archaon: The Halloween Summoning (2020)
Bland
The acting was ok, not stellar but that seemed like mostly due to the poor script. There was no real sense of fear for their lives, although "Jackson" came close. I gave it 3 stars because it is watchable, and story had potential. It just wasn't very developed. The demon is barely glimpsed and doesn't do anything other than lurk around and whisper names. I can't blame them for being a little anxious, rather than terrified. The "saviour" at the end is convenient, and even with the mysterious phone call adds little to the overall plot. Is he good or bad? Who knows? He helped them, but was sent by the lady that made the mask, it would actually work as a foreshadowing of someyhing, if they had bothered with some character development of either one. But with no indication of intentions, you're just left with, i guess they've been through a slightly stressful few days and things are back to normal for all.
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
Muddled
We knew from the first movie, Bill and Ted unite the world with their music. Yet in the future, they somehow don't realize that they actually don't? How does that make sense? It doesn't. Their kids sorta save the world by having people play together. I get it, music is the great unifier. It just doesn't gel with the original movies. You find out Bill and Ted end up as has-beens, failing to write good music shortly after the end of second movie. Yet the people in the future, who should know all that, still worship them...at least until they aren't sure anymore that they save/saved the world through their music. Ummm what?! By the end it just wasn't even trying to make sense, and somehow I kept expecting it would by them actually coming up with an actual song just in time, thus tying into the original movie, but nope. It kinda spoils the original, they were so likeable and fun you want them to succeed. Despite all that, there were some funny moments and great acting earning it a 5.
