No Hard Feelings (2023)
Utterly peurile and dreadful language
I gave up after 30 minutes. Completely nonsensical storyline and the scriptwriter masks this by using very frequent and totally unnecessary foul language. It's a shame that the otherwise talented Jennifer Lawrence contanimates herself with such garbage.
After watching her in Passengers and Red Sparrow I expected a more mature performance. But she is severely constrained by the awfulness of the script, which does nothing except show her in a gutter role, which she does not deserve.
Steer clear of this junk movie, I wish I could get a refund on the remaining part of the time. Why must scriptwriters bombard us with the barrage of foul language?
The Catch (2023)
Well presented drama -apart from the music
I had no choice but to put on the subtitles, as the music background was swamping 50% of the dialogue.
And there was no need for the foul language. Are scriptwriters so lacking in vocabulary that they need to add such contamination?
The scenery and locations added much to the plot, and the general presentation was well above standard. Brenda did well as the dementia-stricken grandmother.
I'd say that the origination of Ryan was rather too obvious, and his story, once revealed as the plot unfolded, was no surprise.
Well done to the production team in concealing the location - carefully not showing any boats' sterns, where the harbour 'home' would have been visible.
HHhH (2017)
Good to begin with, then absurd.
Having watched it, I'd say that the portrayal of Heydrich in the first half of the action is historically accurate and good viewing, as it shows his military history - I won't give the game away - and his relationships with colleagues, subordinates, superiors as well as friends and family. His rise to 'Protector of Bohemia and Moravia' and how he fulfils this role is shown very graphically.
The story also covers the assassination attempt, and its instigators. However after the failed attack on Heydrich, the film goes completely off the rails. Great liberties are taken with the actual facts of the events and the people concerned, and once the scenes move to the church where the parachtists are trapped, the sequences bear little or no relation to the truth. In particular, the weaponry shown as being used by the seven parachutists is a farce. Thompson .45 calibre submachine guns? A Bren gun? Oh dear me ... and the ending is fantasy, more in line with 'Operation: Daybreak' than what actually occurred in the church, which incidentally is nothing like the actual location. For me, that part of the film was an insult to the memory of the real people concerned.
So - watch the first 2/3 of the movie and then - find something better to do.
The King (2019)
Historical tosh and an assassination of Shakespeare
I don't mind a historical movie being tosh as long as the storyline does not depend on historical fact. This film is so slow off the mark and peppered with unnecessary foul language that I commend anyone who who has sat through more than 20 minutes of it before reaching for the remote control's 'off' button.
Skyggen i mit øje (2021)
Painfully slow to get off the ground
Apart from the poor quality sound (dubbed), the movie was slow off the mark that I gave up after 20 minutes of disconnected direction, not wanting to waste any more time waiting for the storylines to connect.
Spencer (2021)
Fantasy, with dreadful sound quality
I went to see the film 'Spencer' yesterday, at the Orbit cinema in Wellington (Shropshire UK). So, should you go? If you do, the first thing you need to ask for is to have the subtitles switched on, as the dialogue is mostly mumbled whispers with very poor audio quality. This I should add is intrinsic to the film's disgracefully poor sound, and not the fault of the cinema's audio system. On leaving the film and mentioning this to the staff, they said that others had made the same comment.
As for the rest - it's mostly fantasy. Although well cast with the players strongly resembling the real-life personages,, the story content, based on facts, goes well off the rails with absurd scenes which have been dreamed up by the director (probably after a bad night out). Yes, there are some 'real' scenes - notably focusing on Diana's bulimia and the distancing between her and Charles. Also, the way that she is most strictly controlled by both tradition and Royal household protocol, makes you wonder how she survived at all under such circumstances.
For example, all her many changes of clothes and especially formal dresses were individually labelled for every single occasion; 'breakfast', 'dinner', 'Christmas Day banquet' etcetera. But spectral apparations, mentally mistaking one member of staff for another? Not for me, and I walked out after an hour. With the dreadful sound quality making most of the dialogue incomprehensible, and the galactic sized fantasy storylines, I'd had enough of seeing Diana turned into a psychotic pawn.
Flight (2012)
Unbelievable garbage
A drunk cocaine-addled pilot? What? Who could be fooled into thinking this storyline has any depth? And from an engineering point fo view it's as believable as a lead brick floating on water. Don't waste your time on this junk.
Vivarium (2019)
Total garbage. Don't bother with it.
Utter trash and totally unbelievable. I'd like my money back, please.
Scarborough (2018)
Shallow and predictable, don't waste your time on it
Waste of your time. Wooden acting, predictable storyline and I gave up after 20 minutes.
The Duke of Burgundy (2014)
Total rubbish
I've give this piece of nonsense zero stars if I could. The director has made a complete pig's breakfast out of this and after 20 minutes of it I'd had enough, and deleted it.
Don't waste your time on this garbage, it's an insult to your intelligence.
