Prey (2022)
Another agenda-filled movie
I agree with the reviews blaming the impossibility to suspend your disbelief when you've seen how powerful Predator is before. Now, is it supposed to be a lesser version, because it's the first one? He didn't seem so weak in the first half of the movie. I think the most believable and smart tactic she used (the MC) was the orange flower to cool down the blood...but that alone doesn't help her when it's time to combat it! Anyhow...all that film made me want to do is watch the 1987 one again! I gave 5/10 because of the costumes, the parkour, the scenery, and the use of some real French Canadian actors. At your own discretion whether to watch or not, since it's 50/50!
Stranger Things: Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab (2022)
Non-stop quality
I wasn't having any expectations for session 4, and may I say I'm completely taken by this one. The only reason I had an hint as to who was Vecna was the ending credits where they specified « young Henry » meaning an older one was to appear...but wow ; everything makes sense and nothing feels forced or « ex-machina ».
The Society (2019)
Drama with too much undertones of "need for consent"
All the girls are wise and boring and the boys stupid, And those kiss scenes where they have to ask first...urgh once maybe but throughout the show with these messages?! And, unsurprisingly coming from Netflix, 5 episodes too many!
QAnon: The Search for Q (2021)
More confusing than helpful
I finished this doc with less comprehension on the Q phenomena than prior to watching it, and believe me I've read multiple articles on the subject. Every interview is too condensed and doesn't get the point of the interviewee across at all. 5 stars for doing this during pandemic and managing to insert 1/6 close to the original airing.
The Boys: What I Know (2020)
Please be objective in your reviews!
I think season 1 was great, even though I never liked some of the casting so much (I.e Erin Moriarty or Dominique McElligott). In season 2, they lost what made this show different from all the other DC/Marvel adaptations. It even felt like a CW teen drama sometimes! Unveiled social commentaries and over use of cheesiness. Those who put 9-10 stars are clearly biased by season 1. Very disappointing, but still better than most Netflix originals these days!
Watchmen (2019)
As close to perfection as can be
This Watchmen stands by itself, meaning if the person watching this never read or even heard of the graphic novel, they can love it or relate. Now if you're a fan, it's even better, because of all the « Easter eggs » and the continuity of the novel's story. I can't find a single thing to complain about. After reading a few articles with its creators, they nailed it overall; they wanted to bring the Tulsa massacre to the forefront in order to bring awareness and they did so in a way that doesn't feel crammed. They found answers to the novel's unanswered questions that I think even Alan Moore himself would agree with, and that's no easy feat! The acting is superb, the Abar couple is now my favorite on-screen relationship of all times, the music is original in its choice and spot on with the timing. The balance between intrigue, drama, cynicism is maintained throughout 9 episodes. The ones directed by Nicole Kassel are my favorites! I don't think they should do a season 2, because as I wrote it's near perfection. I guess they could do a « spin off »...cause then it wouldn't mess with the Watchmen purists or with the season 1!
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Too long, typical Netflix
Such boring direction from the start, I knew it wasn't Hill house but like so many of you, I sticked around...to find that poor directors where stuck with a boring material. All 7 episodes of « intrigue » build-up to have the complete reveal in 8? Then an unnecessary epilogue? These 9 episodes could have fitted in 4, but that's Netflix for you. Oh, and those who are annoyed by Flora, well, she's the original Peppa Pig!!!
