3 Body Problem (2024– )
3/10
No direction
16 April 2024
I haven't read the book or watched the other versions of the 3 Body Problem. As a new watcher to the story, this show was annoying and strange. I couldn't connect with the characters as they developed.

So many good reviews of this show makes me believe I must be taking crazy pills because this is not leaving a good impression to me at all.

The special effects are good, the acting is ok, but there is an arrogance to this show that gives it an ora that it's better than it really is.

The biggest issue is that it is very unclear what everyone's motivation is. Why are they so invested in what they are doing? What are they afraid of? Are they just all bored??? As a new viewer to the whole story, this is all so unclear and was not enjoyable to follow.

Worst. Movie. Ever!
18 November 2023
I've endured many rushed Netflix movies over the past few years, but this one just takes the cake. The movies lacked any substance, had zero depth, and very lazy writing.

This movie was overloaded with modern clichès. I respect Brandy, but her acting was just terrible. (Sorry Brandy). Jason Biggs was.. meh. The jokes never quite landed for me. They were understood, but too predictable and heard many times before. Nothing original.

The product placement was junk food, which is quite fitting for what the film offered. I'd assume the only positive aspect of the film was that it was short. This means I didn't have to suffer for more than an hour and 20 minutes.

Nepo Baby Fest, but warmed up to it.
28 August 2023
I have to be honest, I did not have very high hopes for this movie. At first it appeared like a forced family project Adam Sandler felt compelled to do. I'm an Adam Sandler fan, so this is the only reason why I gave this movie a chance.

In the first moments of the film, It was fully compatible with my expectations of being nauseating. Adam's character is your typical dad with the life sucked out of him by his needed family. He appears emotionally and financially drained. The one man in the movie with ALL the responsibility and ZERO authority. It was almost depressing.

When I had my first laughs, it kinda warmed me up and held my attention. This is where I started to feel this is a legit good comedy movie for all ages. Adam has his classic fun witty humor that played quite well with a teenage girly drama.

Throughout the rest of the film, it completely changed my impression of my initial thoughts. It was not bad at all and was quite enjoyable.

Russell Crowe immersed me into the character.
20 August 2023
It's a double edged sword when an actor becomes super famous. On one side, they are extremely marketable and gain great roles. However, on the other side, we tend to see the actor in the movie and not the character which distracts from the experience of the story.

This was not the case with this film. I'm not an accent specialist nor a native Italian speaker, but Russell's portrayable had me convinced.

The story itself was exciting and intriguing. There were some nonsensical aspects of course. Its a very fictional film with its own share of contradictions that are noticeable. The authenticity of the Vatican traditions and language barriers might have been compromised, but as a normal viewer, none of it was recognizable thus not bothered.

Overall I give this a 7. It's not going to leave a lasting impression on me, but It was a good to watch.

Important series almost ruined by the 2023 Netflix sprinkle.
14 August 2023
I have not yet had the opportunity to view "Dopesick," a topic that seems to be prevalent among many reviewers. Thus, my evaluation emerges from a fresher perspective.

The film pleasantly surprised me with the caliber of acting displayed. Certain performances exhibited a level of impressiveness that transcended the realm of amateurism. This commendable quality contributed positively to the overall experience. However, it must be acknowledged that some performances leaned towards being overly melodramatic and lacking in refinement.

Throughout this mini-series, my engagement remained unwavering. The narrative effectively conveyed a stark portrayal of the malevolent negligence exhibited by individuals associated with Purdue Pharma. The juxtaposition of scenes underscored the distressing consequences of the company's excessive promotion of a perilous painkiller, further accentuating the "too big to fail" approach they adopted. While it might be argued that certain aspects of irresponsibility and malevolence were amplified for dramatic effect, the artistic choices made in this regard remain understandable.

Considering the context of its release on Netflix in 2023, it is unsurprising that the influence of contemporary sociopolitical narratives is evident. The persona of the narrator, who spearheads the investigative aspect, could be perceived as a satirical depiction. While the incorporation of such themes is understandable, it is worth noting that the execution may not have fully resonated with all viewers. It is notable that the portrayal of the narrator's acting prowess also left room for improvement.

Netflix A-list baited us again
14 August 2023
There was no substance from the beginning. Just running and shooting. I understand they use it to grab attention from the beginning, but it failed. No plot could be assumed or drawn from it.

The special effects and fighting choreography were embarrassing. It was almost like a high budget parody of what you'd see on a Super Bowl ad or SNL.

Once again, the Villian was very underdeveloped. All the characters had very little depth if any at all. This is become a common theme amongst these rushed Netflix films.

I'm tired of being fooled by seeing A-Listers headlining a dull movie with little substance.

Imagine a goofy Doritos commercial extended for 2 hours
10 July 2023
I just want to start off by staying that this movie was super-cringe right from the beginning. It not only was not funny, but the attempts to be funny where really embarrassing to watch. I almost felt bad for the actors that had to risk their careers while reading the script.

The most cringiest and unfunny character of them all is the main character played by Adam DeVine. He whined a lot in a super annoying voice and seemed to be trying way too hard to make people laugh. It came of unwitty and very desperate.

Its a comedy film so I do not expect much from the writing. Of course the plot was sloppy and there was no overarching message in the film. The fact it was not even remotely funny just highlighted it more.

Extraction II (2023)

Great action, thats all....
17 June 2023
This was an action-packed, edge of your seat, film that keeps your attention the whole time. However, this movie needed it because the storyline, relationships, and characters, were left as an afterthought throughout the movie.

Although the Action and Special effects were amazing, the dynamics between the intentions behind the action did not feel developed enough to really give it a lot of sense. The movie attempts to build the story line, but it was rushed and fell flat. Everything was pretty predictable. This was not the case for Extraction 1.

By the way, some scenes made me pretty dizzy. Way too much camera shaking. It was over done in my opinion.

With that being said, Extraction II was fun to watch and very exciting, but thats all it had going for it.

Grade School Play level casting and acting
11 June 2023
Peter Pan is a nostalgic story that resurfaces once in awhile over the years to bring a more modernized version of the old Disney classic. This version brought nothing new to the table.

It was rather boring. The color grading was dim, underexposed, and undersaturated. Even during the sunny scenes outside. This works for adult films with a more serious undertone, however for a magically fun family film, it strips so much potential from the experience.

The acting was very safe and nothing to be impressed by. The casting was a bit tacky which seems to be a common theme recently. Jude Law did well as Hook, but he felt more like a cameo than a key adversary in the Film. There was no tension at all toward the end. I was not moved by the movie at all. It was dull.

One word: Clean
28 May 2023
Cinematography is my thing and this film delivered on that aspect. It was clean organized and structured. The color grading was well put together.

The movie itself had an interesting story and it was well balanced between storyline and action. The main character (played by Ben Affleck) had autism but you can see the character and notice the connections he had with the other characters. He was a socially awkward compassionate elite tough guy who held his own. The complexities were welcomed.

The twists and build up to the stories unpacking kept me engaged. It was a great all around complete movie. Giving it an 8 out of 10 because that its very good coming from me.

Mother's Day (2023)

Another Single-mother to the Rescue!!!
28 May 2023
This year must be the year for single mothers to be heroes it seems. Some of the movies I've seen are even at the expense of fathers. Some fathers are even the evil villains in the movie. I guess this is what to expect ahead of us.

Mother's day in and of itself is an action packed film with very intense single-shot fighting scenes. It really carried the film. And just like the J-Lo's version (which I assume is the U. S. version since the plots are almost exactly the same), the villains are under-developed and one had completely unnecessary nudity. The b-cheeks are very unwelcomed.

I give this film a 5. Action was kinda cool, but this didn't leave much of an impression on me.

Gen Z overload investigating.
27 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
To be honest I enjoyed this movie, however it did come with some annoyances.

The suspense was thrilling and it was engaging from beginning to end. There were a few plot twists that were jaw dropping and unpredictable, which is good.

The entire film is played from a Mac OS desktop style, which is creative but at times nauseating. Typically I leave my computer to watch a movie and get away from the Chaos, but didnt happen with this movie. The Chaos followed me.

The annoyances really come from the fact that over the past year or so, Netflix films seem to demonize dads as evil villains. I mean come on, is it now so trendy to create narratives of malevolent fathers coming back to do harm to the mother and children? This is the 4th movie with this narrative within a 1 year span.

Also the cyber stalking and hacking techniques were a bit creepy.

All-in-all, I did enjoy this movie. A 7 in my book in a very generous movie review. Storm Reid did an EXCELLENT job once again. Everything I seen her in(The Last of Us, Euphoria, etc), she is amazing and a proven up and coming talent as she ascends her career in adulthood.

Not to be taken seriously.
26 May 2023
I'm not sure who the target audience is for this TV series. On one hand, you goofy jokes, cliche characters, and surface level writing that makes it feel it's for kids and family audiences, but on the other hand you have brutal violence. It's kinda strange. Perhaps its for older people who grew up with Arnold movies and are watching television with teenage grandkids. Who knows.

It's not terrible, but its all about not setting high expectations. Don't expect this action series to have any depth or seriousness. The special effects are outdated. Arnold has an obvious stunt double that doesn't even bother to share the same hair color as him. The most amusement in these episodes are seeing all the absurdities.

If you're bored and interested in seeing if Arnold still has it in him, then this show is for you.

Heat (1995)
5/10
The entire 3 hours were felt with this one.
24 May 2023
The cinematography and L. A. feel for its time was great and welcomed, however the pace of the film was slow. It wasn't actually all the way bad. The last 1 hour was actually when things started getting excited. Unfortunately I had to watch this split in 2 parts because the first 2 hours were just awful and void of any real meaning.

This is coming from one of the biggest Al Pacino and Robert De Niro fans ever. Godfather 2 is my favorite movie of all time hands down. This movie "Heat" had the same co-stars and the same about of time (nearly 3 hours), yet the impression it had on me was night and day. Heat is just a meh for me. It's sad because I did like the the rest of the film after I made it through the initial 2 hour snore fest. It was a chore.

Peaky Blinders (2013–2022)
10/10
Unexpectedly Amazing!!! Iconic.
21 May 2023
When it comes to iconic shows, I make it a point to watch them from the beginning. However, not all shows manage to maintain my interest throughout the entire season or series. Peaky Blinders was an exception to that. From the very beginning, it captivated me, and the enjoyment continued until the very end. I couldn't resist binge-watching the entire series in less than 3 weeks, and I found myself not wanting it to end. If only there could be a 7th season, as I believe Peaky Blinders deserves its place among the top iconic shows.

The characters were brilliantly written, and the actors truly embodied their roles. Thomas Shelby's psychology was portrayed with remarkable consistency, showcasing incredible depth and range. Despite his position as a crime boss, it was hard not to admire how he carried himself and his exceptional leadership qualities. His ambition, drive, focus, dedication to his mission, and unwavering loyalty to his family were truly fascinating to witness.

In my opinion, Peaky Blinders deserves a perfect score of 10 out of 10. It is a classic show that has left a lasting impression on me.

Historical docuseries to a melodramatic narrative
19 May 2023
The series delves into the intriguing historical events between Rome and Egypt during the Pre-Roman Empire era. It attempts to showcase the cultural customs and significant events of the time, albeit with a somewhat exaggerated and parodic tone. However, the execution of the acting and mannerisms falls short, displaying either overly modernistic approaches or subpar performances.

The focus primarily revolves around analyzing Cleopatra's emotional states and her relationships with high-status men during that period. At times, the narration feels akin to a gossip show, with the narrators confidently presenting speculations as if they were indisputable facts. While there is an apparent attempt to bring these historical events to life, particularly from a women empowerment standpoint, it ultimately lacks depth and veers into the realm of cliché.

Considering the effort put forth, I would rate it a 1 out of 10. The series transitions from a promising historical docuseries to a melodramatic narrative that detracts from its intended purpose.

The Mother (2023)

Emotionless predictable film
13 May 2023
With the lackluster writing for this film, I'm trying to rationalize the purpose for this movie being made. Perhaps its promoting long range shooting? Who knows.

The story is very predictable and the villain was under developed which left major holes in the dynamic. JLo's character is a stoic tough girl that has narrow range.

The good: Nothing was good, there was average aspects to bad aspects.

The Bad: This is too much of a 'all about JLo' movie. She is in every single scene. I don't dislike Jennifer Lopez, but she had to have been the driving marketing force for this movie. The movie had little else to offer. It's as if they reserved the majority of the movie's budget for JLo's star power.

Lots of cheese, sprinkled with socioeconomic messages, and a touch of emotion. served on a plate of wonderful cinematography
8 April 2023
Very engaging film for any food lover. The main character played by Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying did a terrific job as an actress. You can really feel the emotions during the intense scenes. Sadly she was the only character with any depth. It felt like her world and everyone was just living in it. The supporting roles were kind of interesting but only surface level.

Many of the plot turns were pretty cheesy. The scenes of violence and the reasons behind them were random, weird and had no build up. The head chef was cool, and stoic, which is to be expected from many successful chefs, however, he had outbursts that didn't make that much sense.

There was a few ominous scenes of rich people living out their gluttony with depictions of them eating flesh-like food. It was a clear dynamic between rich people betrayed as greedy while low-status people betrayed as simply, caring, loving, yet frustrated. It was very interesting to see this depiction, especially during the flashback scene of the Head Chef's upbringing. The comment about the caviar had me burst out laughing.

The cinematography was enjoyable and the dishes looked great. Its probably was kept me engaged the most.

Overall, this film was good. I would recommend it for sure. Many aspects were rushed, and had little development, but remained exciting and had scenes that moved me. The ending will leave most with lots of questions and unfulfilled, but you will give reflections.

Slow Paced, Yawn Fest.
9 January 2023
This is a movie review and not an acting review so I have no choice but to keep my review based on the totality of the experience. Christian Bale and Harry Melling played the roles well and were engaging. The chemistry helped immerse me into the film a bit. Unfortunately the tension of the plot took forever. The build up withered away so much that when the turning point arrived, the suspense wasn't strong. I just wanted it to be over already.

The movie kicks into gear at the very end but at that point it was too late. The build up and suspense overstayed its welcome.

If the complication stage of a film is going to be that boring and long, the turning point and action better have been worth it. Unfortunately it wasn't at all. It was "meh".

Important Topic, but nearly 3 hours of an atrocious movie.
15 October 2020
This film is basically a regurgitated lecture of Peter Joseph's lectures. One character in the film is played as a professor and is quoted as saying "Some things were considered external to this contrived competitive game they called business" This clearly sounds way too much how Peter Joseph uniquely talks.

The script was indigestible and felt like a course instead of a movie. There was literally no plot. I guess you can say there was a tiny storyline, but it was clouded out by over used jargon. It was very hard to keep my eyes on it for nearly 3 hours.

The Good:
  • The music was nice and fit the scenery of the film very well.
  • I follow Peter Joseph's work, so I do find the topics in the film extremely important

The Bad:
  • No plot. Not a documentary. My guess is you can call it a Mockumentary
  • Acting is so bad. Like really bad. I can't knock the actors. Al Pacino himself wouldn't be able to give life to such a script.
  • The special effects and color grading was bad and pretentious at best. Overblown soft tones and lumination was a bit nauseating.

Conclusion: I gave the rating of this film a 2 and not a 1 because I felt that the film's topic is important. Capitalism is an extremely inefficient system. Although we have no other system better to replace it, we have elitist fans who defend Capitalism which ultimately impedes on any progress to our social condition.

This film feels as though it's directed at Peter himself and those who agree heavily with the Zeitgeist Movement. If there was any attempt to bring further outreach to those outside this circle or provide an enjoyable movie, then this Film failed miserably. If there was no attempt to bring further outreach and it was created purely to provide a somewhat entertaining outlook of the movement for those WITHIN the circle, I think it did well.
