Cocaine Bear (2023)
7/10
It's called Cocaine Bear. That's exactly what you get.
26 April 2023
Well. It's not awards material, but it was never intended to be. Somewhat unusual cast: You've got Kari Russell (still hot). Ice Cube's son (O'Shea Jackson Jr.). Ray Liotta of course... Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo in "Solo"). The always great Margo Martindale (Justified). The story is ridiculous, as you would assume. The highlight of the film for me had to be the ambulance scene and all that took place just before and of course right after. That was hilarious and I had to rewind it. If you view it with a few beers and just kick back and watch, you'll be entertained. It is a bit gruesome in a few parts, so be forewarned. LOL.

Thias is better than you would think
17 February 2023
Very underrated. I cannot believe this gets 19% on RT. Durant comes back and wreaks havoc after somehow surviving the helicopter crash. LOL. . And he is the star this time and he's great. The last 30 minutes of this flick where Darkman takes over both Ivan and Eddie, lol, some of the best clips of the series... GREAT scenes! I've probably watched this as many times as I've watched Part 1. This needs some love. It does not deserve 19% any day of the week.!

Westlake has been taken over by Voslo, who's solid. I think a remake would be really cool. This is a great character and should definitely be re-made with a medium budget.

Easily one is the best King films
6 August 2022
The first 30 minutes is a masterpiece. Every second Jackson and Cusack are on screen together, you've got to be mesmerized. It's just pure gold. Very scary, freaky movie.

Predator 2 (1990)

Highly underrated sequel
6 August 2022
The entire 3rd act of this film is gold. Danny Glover is tired of this predator nonsense and he's going to do something about it. Haha. By the end Glover is in such horrendous condition you really have to laugh. Very underrated.

Who would have thought?
6 August 2022
Rocky 6? The studio must have been cringing at the idea. This is definitely top 3 in the series. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it in the theater. In some ways this is a good as the first. But Rocky 1 is fantastic so I can't touch that. And for pure 100% 1980's cheese, Rocky 4 is complete gold. So I'll give this the 3rd spot, barely.

The last 15 minutes is complete insanity
6 August 2022
Of course any chance to see John Rambo back in action is great. If you want to see absolute bedlam at the highest levels of pure chaos, this ending could be what you're looking for. Haha. John puts down dozens and dozens of people. Haha. This is definitely one of the most violent movies ever. And I laughed through all of it. Well done, Stallone!

I did a recent rewatch
28 July 2022
When Johnny Depp describes Dr. Gonzo in this next quote, I was laughing so hard:

"One of god's own prototypes. A high powered mutant never considered for mass production. Too Weird to live. Too weird to die." 😆

Psycho II (1983)
10/10
This is a classic sequel
27 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is a classic in my opinion. Who would have ever thought "Psycho II" would be good? Norman gets released from a mental hospital after 20 some years and is really trying hard to do what's best. You actually feel bad for him because people are trying to mess with him to cause him to snap and be put back in the institution. This is maybe Anthony Perkins best performance. If nothing else, the shovel scene at the end is a laugh out loud, hand clapping 10/10. Lol.

Gone Girl (2014)
10/10
This is a classic thriller
22 August 2021
One part disturbing. One part psychological thriller. One part Scott Peterson case. Throw in a little Basic Instinct and Fatal Attraction. This is one of Fincher's best films (director). The acting all around is extremely top notch. Rosamund Pike... definitely a career performance. 10/10. And well, this might sound odd for those who don't like him, but this might be Ben Affleck's best performance also: 9/10.

The bottom line is: The last 20 minutes of this film is just utterly disturbing, but in a fascinating way.

Old (2021)
7/10
"Old" isn't bad overall! But has some Problems....
1 August 2021
I was looking forward to this flick. M. Night has made a bit of a comeback in recent years. His film The Visit (2015) made back like 20x its budget. And I think Split (2017) made back nearly 30x its budget. That is almost unheard of. "Glass" was a decent flick but maybe not as great as I'd hoped. But overall things were looking hopeful...

I thought the concept of this movie was great. That's the strongest part of the film. It's a good idea. It's an interesting idea. This island shore is beneficial for some folks, and horrible for others. Huge medical breakthroughs for some, but the opposite for others. That's interesting. Lots of places you could take it.

The two biggest problems: The acting was bad. I'm sorry. It just was. And the dialogue. Baddddd.

M. Night usually has a few good/great actors to assist in many of his films... whether it's Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Joaquin Phoenix, Mark Wahlberg (movie was still bad though, lol), Adrien Brody, William Hurt, James McAvoy, Anya-Taylor Joy... This movie had nothing resembling that echelon of actor or actress. Sometimes the acting was really bad, then sometimes it was decent or good. It was all over the place

I'm kind of torn on this. I was hoping it would be better. But parts of it I did like. I liked the ideas. The potential. The concept. Even the ending was decent! But it got bogged down by nonsense...

I still did enjoy it, but it's nowhere near Night's best work. The always great Rufus Sewell was pretty bad in this, which I can't believe I'm saying. It did have "Miles" from "Lost" in it though, haha, which oddly made sense, casting wise. He was decent. Lol!

There was definitely a slight "The Village" feel (Nature Preserve), "The Cube" and "Cabin in the Woods".

Overall score (normally) 6.5/10. But due to the ending: 7/10.

This Was Wrongly Discarded After The Disney Aquisition of Fox
31 July 2021
It's sad hardly anyone got to see this film upon release. Reason: Disney bought Fox. Nothing about this film speaks of a "Disney movie", so I think the film quickly got buried after the acquisition... It was then thrown on a shelf for a few years, completely un-released. It quietly trickled out eventually with almost zero marketing/promotion. Sadly.

I'm not a horror film guy. But I will watch a few a year if they have potential or I've heard good things. I went in knowing nothing about this film except that a friend had suggested it. I want unique and/or creepy scares, not just "jump scares" that send the theater into a quick panic. Or just the 88 minute slasher flicks we often see. I want some suspense with the horror. Sometimes the scariest part of a movie can be what you are NOT seeing on film. The unknown. This movie is exactly that. I'll probably watch it again maybe in a month or so, to see how I react a second time through. The movie is intelligently made, well written and solidly acted. Certainly give it a shot if you want more than your usual horror flick and like being "creeped out" more than just blood and guts. This is certainly creepy. And a very good film.

Duel (1971 TV Movie)
9/10
Duel is a classic!
15 May 2021
This is easily one of my favorite Spielberg films. It came out right before Jaws, which of course cemented his legacy. The film has very little dialogue. It's just a guy driving home. Haha. Non verbal acting, solid directing, great cinematography and a story you can somehow relate to. As in, maybe it could happen to you or I... Completely brilliant.

This is SO much better than the 2017 rubbish they released
26 March 2021
This is WAYYY better than the Whedon theatrical cut. Obviously, it's a much longer film... But that is actually not a bad thing. Way more character development. The original 2017 version I have not purchased.. and not sure I ever will. The Snyder version, I will. 👍 This makes me wonder what other director's cut are out there sitting in a box somewhere. Well done Zack.

The Vagrant (1992)
9/10
This deserves to become a cult classic!
5 March 2021
A bum keeps breaking into Bill Paxton's house, eats his food, sleeps in his garage and won't leave him alone. There's the plot of the movie. HAHA!

I worked at a video store right out of high school. I would rent movies all the time, since it was free for us employees. This was the mid-1990's. I saw the box for The Vagrant VHS with a picture of Bill Paxton and the headline "He's NOT home alone". Hahaha! I immediately rented it. I've probably watched this movie 20 times over the years (roughly). I bought copies on Ebay (VHS) and gave them as gag gifts to a few friends. LOL. Very hilarious. Low budget classic. After about 20 minutes in... the comedy/horror combo really takes off! The restaurant scene. The courtroom scene. The deluxe security system. The paranoia...

Bill Paxton is at his absolute best. It's not a perfect film, but because no one on the planet has heard of it, and it's caused me to literally cry numerous times from laughter, I've gotta give it a 9. If you have an odd, very quirky, black comedy style of humor, you MUST check this out. Even the soundtrack is genius. By the way, quite randomly (but makes perfect sense), Mel Brooks is an executive producer on this film.

No Discernible Genre. EXTREMELY Unique!
13 February 2021
This is:

20% The Cabin in the Woods. 10% Predator (1986). 15% Maximum Overdrive. 10% Rambo. 10% U- Turn. 10% The Hills Have Eyes. 10% Army of darkness. 10% The Shining. 5% Ozark.

I very much enjoyed it for what it was.

Not nearly as scary as the book, but a decent film...
26 December 2020
The book was very, VERY creepy. When I read it back in college... I mean, I was like in my early 20's. The first few chapters, no big deal, horror wise... But by the end of the book, I was disturbed, upset and actually scared. I slept with my light on for 2 weeks! As a grown man. Lol. That's the complete truth. The movie is nothing like that at all, but I still enjoy it and have seen it numerous times... If they could do more of a miniseries type of thing to cover the entire book... that could be extremely interesting!

It wasn't even all that long of a book, but it was freaky as hell and a lot was not covered in the film. If you give us a 4-part miniseries based on the entire story, your might be on to something. 👍

Wow what a nice find!
17 November 2020
What a solid, original concept. Not a traditional sci-fi flick. Or even a traditional "time travel" flick. The "sci-fi" in the film is so subtle for the most part... until the end I guess. Anyone could enjoy it. I'm not actually sure what genre this movie is. Lol. But wow, it's extremely well acted by Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook (!). The writing and directing are top notch. A very nice find 6 years after its original release. I enjoyed every minute of it.
