OMG they used a promo clip from Malaysia!
3 February 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Decided to check out this indie film after seeing the poster at the IMDb recommendation section. Quite enjoyable. I thought i'd bring to light a surprise i had. About 10mins in the movie, at the motel room where Arturo is staying there is a TV commercial for Frank E Normo's travel porn program. it features clips of actual promo video for a popular Malaysian Nature Park destination. Images of the nature park were interspersed with porn clips and Franks narration. I doubt the director got clearance for this and the editor should really not use a clip with a website on it. Malaysian government won't be happy with this if they knew. The blatant use of the promo with no foresight to hide the origins of the clips is culturally and politically rude. I'm open minded enough to enjoy the film for what it is but many will not.

transformers or Megan fox assets?
27 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I was OK with the cartoon series but loved the feature length animation. The first live version (part 1) i would consider a decent action fantasy but this sequel is horrendous! I was irritated throughout the whole movie and couldn't wait for it to end. So many loose ends, terrible screenplay/script, bad acting, lousy action sequences seem to fill up the entire movie. If it was any other director, i could forgive but Michael Bay? Come on??! They already had the first one for practice and the countless epic movies he has completed??!. It seems they couldn't decide if they wanted to make it more of an action movie or cheesy romance or a baywatch flick (how much more Megan fox sex appeal do they want to wring out off her? - pout till you drop or please remove your bra so that the audience can feast on her boob 'action' ). It seems Hollywood's stereotype of portraying women as sex objects purveys. Definitely not a movie for the whole family to enjoy. If Megan fox appeal wasn't enough, they brought in another bombshell, Isabel Lucas to add another layer of icing. Sure i enjoy looking at them but this is A TRANSFORMERS MOVIE! The tempo of the movie was terrible. Fast Action scenes suddenly brought down to a snails pace inappropriately with over extended 'i love you' scenes. Just keep the flow going. Don't break it. The college scenes all seem out of place and a waste time. Finally, how could they introduce a Terminator-type robot/cyborg (Isabel Lucas) in a Transformer movie?

can't believe the average rating is 6+ (may have spoilers)
26 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the movie resulting from the above average user rating found here. I wasn't impressed by the trailer but IMDb's rating convinced me that it wouldn't be that bad. Boy, I was wrong. (Regardless of this comment, IMDb is still tops!) For this main reason, i was compelled to write a comment on this movie to warn others and drive down the over inflated rating. The whole movie is one big mess... from the ill defined characters, wooden acting, poor screenplay/script, terrible direction leading to poor editing... the list goes on. I watched this on DVD and had to fast forward most of it, not being able to endure the draggy pointless scenes but yet needed to know the ending. I particularly got annoyed with the screamers. Quite honestly, the protagonists could have just bought grade-A ear plugs. What a waste of talented Asian + western actors/actresses! I enjoy most of Dakota Fanning and Djimon Hounsou movies but this movie has simply degraded their talented work done previously. They are not alone in this as surrounding them were equally well known Asian actors (in Asia). I list this as one of their worst projects. I have seen the director's other work which were OK. However, with this release, I will probably be very cautious on watching his next one.

poorly done
4 February 2009
Pleasant reviews on this movie prompted me to watch it. I had expected an enjoyable heart warming comedy but it didn't turnout this way. I really tried to enjoy it but found myself hitting the fastforward button from impatience. I've watched some excellent Taiwanese movies and this had to be thrown to the other far end. Poor character development (The sub-characters didn't even have their closure), screenplay, very very poor direction and some very bad acting. The story isn't original although the small seaside town setting is nice plus the focus on the indigenous Taiwanese. I felt the director was really trying to hard to convey multiple story lines across which fell completely flat for me. I don't really understand why the tie in with a mysterious letter from Japan. It made the movie so much more disjointed with the poor direction, acting, editing etc. Should have just kept it simple.

movie imploded
23 October 2008
The movie has an interesting plot (or rather none at all) and started with optimism for a chilling thriller but dwindled to a slow bore. The director just tried to hard to plaster the viewers with too much slow build up with no she-bang after. The moments of brightness disappeared as fast as it came. The slow moments became achingly irritating and the direction of the protagonist left us with some silly setups that just left me thinking how amateurish the planning had been. Sure there were some clever ideas with camera angles, montage and the use of sound (the music annoyed me though) but it didn't gel together. Watch it if you love to see Liv Tyler. I think she's made better movies than this. Her inclusion will definitely increase the interest in the movie. Worth watching? It had its moments but i wouldn't suggest this to anyone. Hope the debut director's next film will be better

Original plot but pretty lead actress is irritating
27 July 2008
Movie started of well for me but got me irritated from mid till the end due to the lead actress overacting. As scared as she's suppose to portray, she didn't have to keep yelling throughout the whole movie. Although some of the other actors did over-do their roles in some scenes, they weren't as irritating. Some of the setup was obviously done to lead viewers for some scary moments but it seemed contrived & amateur making me feel as if i was an idiot audience. Won't go into details to spoil the movie for you. If the final third of the movie was as well thought-out as the rest of the movie, i would have given it an 8. for the most part, it serves as a good flick for horror genre viewers.
