Hancock (2008)
9/10
Great film IMO
12 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Well personally I really loved this movie. Best movie I have seen for ages!!!! And I though the fact that the main twist wasn't in the trailer was fantastic!!! Most Hollywood movies these days tell you the whole story in the trailer, making the film rather boring when you have watched the trailer first.

Personally I feel that they both should have died at the end, which would have made me more satisfied. But if all movies where made to keep people feeling satisfied at the end then I think the movie world is definitely going down the class ladder.

Another thing I liked about it was how appealing it is to a large age range. The young kids would enjoy it because of the humor and the typical Will Smith funness. And then those that have ever loved before can enjoy it for the feeling of link they get with the characters. You start becoming quite depressed if you put yourself in the shoes of the 3 main characters. For Hancock to experience love, he has to be with Mary, otherwise any other woman he grows an attachment to will die before him. Then there is Ray, he will die before Mary also, and I can imagine how it must feel that your wife is 'made for someone else'.. and then it's the same thing for Mary, she is going to outlive any other she falls in love with.

Depressing but in a way quite nice. Set apart from the typical Hollywood drabble that you get these days by the connection and emotion it creates.

Great film, if you are wanting to be entertained and moved then this one is for you IMO.

Gimme Shelter (1970)

A heavily mediated doco, showing us a very subjective view on what happened
20 November 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This film is really only interesting for Rolling Stones fans and Media Studies students. It is fairly long and drawn out so if your watching it simply for viewing pleasure then your likely to get bored. The film is heavily mediated by the Maysles brothers and the Rolling Stones to make them look better, as if they had done nothing wrong and to show they could not have done anything to prevent the stabbing. This is were it gets interesting for Media Students. Its a corporisation of the genre and really only shows the hippie movement in a negative light. So its also fairly subjective in its views.

Watch it for a good example of how media can be used to change people views or to see the Rolling Stones 'in action' but you should take everything with a grain of salt. This is not to say however that the Rolling Stones are 'bad people' merely a band trying to clear its self of a negative name.

Not Bad
27 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Not bad, but the only thing i didn't like was the beginning. It was very cliché and its a particularly overused intro. For those that haven't seen it, or the ones that don't know what i am talking about, it was like shots out of a car window as the car was going along the highway. Also i wasn't particularly fond of the way the titles and credits where done. But yea other than that it was quite cool. All the explosions and gun stuff what quite cool. However, it was a good movie considering the time it was made. The story was a bit week at times but then a lot of film story's are getting week nowadays. I know the cinematographer for this, Thomas Burstyn, and I know he is definitely very good with colour and shots. Also i do believe he did that intro bit with just a normal handy-cam.
