Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)
Chill out and enjoy!
Anybody who takes this movie too seriously should just chill out and enjoy it for what it is. It takes a really cool concept and amps up the action as far as it can go and gives you a lot of laughs along the way. There is an extremely hot actress and good music in the soundtrack and the guy who voices Optimus Prime is worth the price of admission alone. People who say Megan Fox or Shia Lebouf are not good actors are just jealous lamebrains. And although I think somebody else would have been a better choice for a subject as daunting as Pearl Harbor, Michael Bay is perfect for something like Transformers. When all is said and done people will watch this more in their lifetime than most of the other crap out there because it is really well done escapist comedy action. If you've had a bad day and need to relax, popping in a DVD or Blu-Ray of either Transformers movie will help you escape and relax because it is just pure fun.
Million Dollar Baby (2004)
This film will endure
Every time I see this I get something new out of it. Before a film can be judged as great or classic it has to endure the test of time. Will people still watch it 10 or 20 years later , or better yet 50 or 60 years later. MDB is very unique with a plot that goes one way, veers a little about a third through, and then about two thirds goes off in a totally unexpected direction with fabulous results. It reminds me of Psycho in that way. Very brave and extremely unique. I can't think of any other film that does this. I believe this film will rise in popularity whereas Gran Torino(which I also love) will decline. I would love to glance 50 years in the future and see where this film stands. I bet it would be among the all-time greats.
Fast Break (1979)
One Pound!
I saw this movie when I was ten years old or so and it still has one of the funniest scenes all-time in movie history. I still remember so much about this movie but you can't find it anywhere today. This needs to be released on DVD. There's a woman pretending to be a man so she can get a scholarship to play basketball. One of the guys on the team is attracted to her/him and starts to think he is gay. The funny scene has the team traveling in a station wagon across country when a cop gets on their tail. The coach discovers that one of the players is carrying a bag of pot and he suggests that they eat the pot to escape detection. " How much you got?" ONE POUND! SO funny you have to see it to believe it. Too bad its impossible to find.
Rocky (1976)
Great in countless ways
This movie is so great there is very little suspension of disbelief to engage in, if any. So well written and acted that it could be passed off as reality . Setting this story in 70's Philadelphia is absolute genius. Some of the set locations are so bleak and hopeless that if I was Rocky I wouldn't even get out of bed no matter how bad the apartment stinks. I wish I had written the scene where he asks Adrian to go to the basketball game. She gives no answer and he immediately changes the subject and acts like it never happened. What guy cannot relate to that? And how can an actress so completely embody nerdiness and hotness in one character? Definitely on the very short list of NO BRAINER great films.
