Seconds (1966)
talk about a midlife crisis.
This as an edgy thriller with some incredible camera work, shot in black and white much like Frankenheimers other more known films, The Manchurian Candidate, and The Birdman of Alcatraz (two of my favorites from the 60's) coupled with memorable performances from Rock Hudson and Salome Jens (wowww)... a middle aged man faces a dilemma and jumps at the chance to have the life he never had, which comes at a great price, he must fake his death, and become a new person all together... I found myself on edge most of the story, and the twists and turns do not dissapoint... The Malibu Bacchanal scene is enough just to watch this film! must have been some fun times in Malibu in 1966
Some Southern Waters (2020)
just what I needed
Wow. found this film by chance, this film had so much going on. brought me back to the old 90's joy of finding a masterpiece on IFC at 2 in the morning... the lead actress was fascinating, the lead actor relatable, and the story simple and so surreal, chasing mermaids, and of course one of my favorite Sea Shanty's . that alone is enough for me to come back for another round. a fine no budget indie film.
Damejin (2006)
Low Budget Fun!
This is the type of film one finds on Japanese IFC at 3 in the morning. off the wall hobo fantasy flick .. The story follows a trio of hopeless idiots and various other skid row characters as they try to live day to day and the trio of friends eventually hatch up a scheme to get to India so they can save the world from extinction. Apparently everyone in the film is hooked on huffing Toluene, because they can't afford anything else. Even though most of the characters have very few brain cells left, they still managed to keep me interested the interior film, and there were many funny and oddball moments served up from a toluene induced haze without actually having to huff toulene. not recommended.
