Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
SMHV (Shaking My Head Violently)
***Spoiler Alert****
I've come to love the MI franchise over the years from the beginning. Just returned from the movie theater, after quickly departing when the movie ended. The whole way home I was whinging to my husband as to my disappointment. The movie seemed to drag on forever - too much talking - too little action - and it was mudded by the lady in distress always hollering "Ethan". The one woman who could handle herself - and who I've come to really like from the beginning of her entrance into the franchise was killed off early in the movie, under ridiculous circumstances. I've seen Ilsa put up a good fight and come off victorious, so having a hard time seeing how she lost this one. And to have her character sacrificed over a woman who ever chance double crossed and ran - again smh! This movie tried to do much and veered away from their previous simple, but good formula. AI as a threat - my goodness this has been done to death, but I feel as though the storyline for this AI doesn't make sense, poorly written and executed. It also feels as though they are setting up and introducing the new IMF additions and possibly individuals who will pick up the franchise. The woman thief, the agent Degas. Coupled with spatterings of flashbacks that don't appear in any movie makes me say it again - too much going on and why didn't they just stick to the formula. I will admit it was good to see Henry, but with that said feel as though his character has manifest himself out of the blue. Director of the IMF - where have you been?!? Needless to say, I feel as though if I had to do it again I would have waited for this to be released on video, but this I know for sure, won't make that mistake with the 2nd release in 2024.
Philly D.A. (2021)
Wow - Wow - Wow Thoroughly Impressed with Larry!
This appealed to me, because my legal beginnings was with the district attorney's office in Delaware. It helped me to appreciate more those who have dedicated their lives and genuinely care about upholding what's right. I am blown away by Larry. I feel given sitting through 8 episodes we are on a first name basis, but he is truly a forward thinking person, and HE MAKES SENSE. The unwillingness of those to make an effort to fix the system versus collecting a paycheck, whether that's inside the attorney general's office (hence the cleaning in the beginning - but as Larry said, he should have let more go, to police, to defenders), such actions all contribute to an archaic, discriminatory system continuing to exist and damaging lives. Where's the humanity in that? So stop and really listen to what he is saying and trying to do, and more importantly support. As he has said he welcomes feedback, ideas, discussions on making the system better instead of letting it continue in its crippled/crippling state. I can see how the message can get lost based on the messenger as he is a direct, no non-sense person, but I concur with councilwoman Maria Q Sanchez, Larry does care. And his care is so deep-rooted and again genuine that he's trying to accomplish some worthy and good things in a short amount of time, which causes him at times to cut straight to the message and not wrap it in a bunch of bs. Coupled with certain moments in filming you see him get choked up and is brought to tears. That's not acting - that is someone who is trying to make a difference!
I have been so impressed by the way this documentary has been presented and the subject matter that I have purchased Larry's book - For The People. I want to know more, and I am looking forward to the read.
Please consider viewing this - with an open mind and really listen - listen to the science and the plan to embed in Philadelphia's criminal system a worthwhile way of solving some of the problems (which in my opinion are all moral based). Much success in your endeavors Mr. Krasner.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Bring back Lynda Carter and writers from her show
I'm glad I didn't spend money at the theatre to watch this train wreck. I didn't think the acting was good at all - even for fiction. CGI - what CGI? I could tell in all the scenes with Wonder Woman when it wasn't Gal Gadot. The storyline was not developed very well and weak. Listen I know it isn't real, but for 2.5 hours at least make me think it is. DC comics is sooo, sooo behind Marvel with respect to making good, believable movies based on writing and character development. I truly believe the producers and writers for DC comics didn't grow up reading the comics at all and really getting to know these characters so they could develop a half way decent script. All of these films, and this one is no different are suboptimal at best. I truly believe based on these two movies, and what I've seen that if Wonder Woman and Black Widow went toe to toe, Black Widow would win. I grew up with Wonder Woman on television - Lynda Carter and was drawn in every week, although there was limited sets and enhanced action scenes, because Lynda worked it and for the most part the writing was good. In my estimation the movie would have been more engaging and better acted with an aging Lynda Carter. Two thumbs and big toes down for this movie!
