Stargate (1994)

Great Movie!
27 March 2014
Stargate is a great movie that I do not think is being given the respect it deserves among movie goers and movie fans in general, but especially among science fiction and fantasy fans. Within the genre it is a great work.

I know that the subsequent series, especially the animated series and the most successful series (Stargate-SG1, also the first series to follow this original movie) are not nearly as serious as the tone set in this movie.

But this movie itself is very good. I think it is a very original concept, the cast is great (Spader and Russell are awesome!) and it has great action and a great story.

What more could you ask for?

Hot in Cleveland (2010–2015)

It's Okay
26 March 2014
Hot in Cleveland is an okay show. I was definitely not expecting much other than to hate it and see it as another Golden Girls type show for older ladies with really bad jokes but it's actually better than most of the awful shows on network television nowadays, and some of the jokes are actually good.

Betty White is not as funny as I usually think she is (I took part in the petition to get her to host Saturday Night Live and on it she proved she's still funny!) but she's getting really ridiculously old, hope she's healthy.

Jane Leeves is good and she's still a very beautiful woman since leaving Frasier.

Valerie Bertinelli is a bit annoying to me and I'm not sure why, I just don't find her very funny.

The other actress is okay too.

Over all not a great show by any means but there are definitely worse ways to waste a half hour in front of the TV.

RoboCop 2 (1990)

Very Good Sequel
23 August 2009
I thought Robocop 2 was a very good sequel. It still wasn't as good as the original but it had some great effects and Peter Weller was still good in the title role of Robocop. Of course it's not a truly great film or artistic or anything, it is just a fun summer action movie with a lot of shooting and violence and funny one liners. Robocop 3 was truly terrible and that is what ruined the movie series in my mind, I think Robocop 2 is better than it gets credit for. I need ten lines so I will just write what my nephew says about Robocop now, "Robocop is stupid but there are some cool parts I guess and his gun is a fine f***in weapon", I agree with the weapon being cool but that is it.

The Wrestler (2008)

Incredible Performance, Good Movie
16 July 2009
I think that pretty much sums up this very good movie, it's very good but not really a "picture of the year" kind of thing, what really makes it stand out is the lead performance by Mickey Rourke as an aging, washed up wrestler who just won't quit and really has nothing else in his life that he can do. Marissa Tomei is also very good as the lead actress supporting Rourke but this is Rourke's picture and his performance and the film as a whole are brutal and honest and really touching and you just can't turn away from it. This is the role Mickey Rourke was born to play and it is the role that definitely has turned his career around after many years of doing nothing good.

Slaves (1969)

Premise is great, Movie is bad.
19 November 2008
This movie is really disappointing because it has such a great premise behind it with the idea taken from the Harriett Beecher Stowe story "Uncle Tom's Cabin", at least loosely taken from it. I really like Ossie Davis as an actor (R.I.P.) but the acting in this movie isn't very good at all in fact over all the quality of the movie is just bad like it was just quickly slapped together in a weekend or something. I blame the director mostly for the bad acting and poor quality of the movie over all, the script obviously wasn't very good but not quite terrible either. It is still an interesting movie and the music in it is great, I think it is almost worth watching just for the great soundtrack alone, and to see a younger Ossie Davis of course.
