The F Word (2013)
Above avarage for a new movie
Since good movies barely ever are made anymore, this falls under above average. It is an easy movie for a slow night. It is quirky and a little funny. It lacked character development, especially for the supporting characters, but also for the main ones. Something movies do nowadays is they jump into action right away.
The main characters have some chemistry and they are a pretty good match. Overall however, I think Wallace deserved better, and so does Daniel. He was definitely the star of the movie, he made the movie watchable. Without him, it would be nothing... He is a bit quirky so he was perfect for the role and did a really good job, acted so naturally. I came to really like Wallace, what a great guy- in reality all those good guys are already taken lol.... I liked Chantry in the beginning but grew to dislike her as I kept watching. I just felt like Wallace should have realized he can do better with a more emotionally mature character.
The storyline at times felt unrealistic and like a childish fantasy 😛 But it was a cute movie. Definitely looking forward to seeing Daniel Radcliffe in other roles. Happy to see him developing his style in acting!
Jeanne du Barry (2023)
Better than the American historical productions
But NOT historically accurate. Easy mistakes that could have been avoided... the costumes and hairstyles presented in this movie are post Marie Anoinette style revolution, and the actions in the movie are before Marie Antoinette arrived at Versailles. The little black boy was adopted by Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI long after XV's death by smallpox.
It could have been a better movie if it was more historically true, and involved more Versailles drama beyond the love story. I would have loved to see the tea parties, more gossip among Louis's family, and the love story laid out and unfolding on more historical background with highlighted events that could give us a better idea of the timeline and progression of the movie.
Barbie (2023)
First half ok, the rest awful
I must agree with the rest of the reviews. This movie was mostly heavy and really BORING. I mean, the dialogues were so flat and all of the script was just boring. I know they meant for this movie to be some deep philosophical message but it didn't work. The entire time I felt like the movie lacked intelligent enough writers to make it into what they aspired to create. I give 1 star to the first 30-40min of the movie- I like sattire and it was a bit like a sattire. I even laughed once ...
Overall, I like the idea they had behind this movie. I wish they made it more philosophical and intrapersonal vs political and interpersonal. The moment she sits at the bus stop and has a sort of awakening moment, looking at the trees, the people, feeling empathy and the beauty of the world- that was great. I wish they went into that direction and ignored for once what is going on in the politics and just focused on a personal journey. It would have been a much better, deeper movie. It had its potential wasted. Like everything in Hollywood...Oh well!
House M.D.: Act Your Age (2007)
Can't expect a lot but come on!
I know it's just a TV drama, but most of the time I can overlook the non-so-logical stuff. I have a scientific background and realize most of the medicak stuff is a real stretch and unrealistic and still enoy the show. This time it way overboard, anyone who's got a brain knows that testosterone does not cause menstruation 🤦♀️ the diagnosis was really stupid and didn't make any sense for the little girl's symptoms. And their dad went to all this length to keep the relationship secret and at the end they all walk our together like a happy family 😆 come on, it's just too much dumb writing!! Some episodes get really silly.
Marry Me (2022)
Is exactly what it's supposed to be
It's a cheese romantic comedy, hallmark style, with a very modern twist, low key, not too much wokism, to be honest, for today's standard, this is a really good movie. I was positively surprised. I skipped over this title a few times but finally decided to watch on a boring rainy day and Im happy that I did. Yes, nothing special, but it is CUTE and it makes you smile. That's the purpose of the rom-com.
I personally think that J. Lo did great embodying the character of Kat, obviously your brain can't just forget it's J. Lo, but overall I don't think she just played herself. She is quite a good actress, to be able to play basically herself and still make it work and appear as someone else. It was good. Owen Wilson as always, great casting and great acting. People who say there was no chemistry - not exactly. I think the casting was on point. The whole point was that they are so freaking different and at such odds, it's even weird to look at them kiss. But that just added to the point of the movie! My favorite character though was definitely Kat's manager, the guy from GoT, omg, he was perfect for that role and did such a great job. He was so very likable I want him in my life LOL! Some of the other characters might as well not be there and it wouldn't make a difference, but his character was written and placed so well and added so much value to the movie. Or is it just me?!
Overall, I dont get the negative reviews, like, what exactly did you expect?? They say themselves, the trailer is pretty clear on what this movie is about and what to expect. The problem with low reviews is unrealistic expectation that's totally out of place. I am very sensitive to cringy stuff and this eas not it. Nothing cringy about this movie. This is a cute easy-to-watch modern rom-com with nice pop music and some very romantic moments that make you smile and feel warm! I recommend for anyone who is in the mood for that.
On - drakon (2015)
Nothing new to say
I've read the reviewes and agree with all of them. The positive qnd the negative, they are all correct. Your rating will really depend on your liking. I, personally, really enjoyed this movie, despite the predictability. I see this movie as a piece of classic art, it is simply beautifully made and played. It's such a pleasure to watch, for your eyes, and for your heart. It reminds you of what unconditional love is, yes. It also does picture an unhealthy attachment in some ways, so I do see how it relates to the Russian culture of unhealthy relationships that was mentioned in another review. I do have to say, I can't agree with what it said about minimizing or putting down the woman. I actually think that the American culture does it way worse and their movies show that. They disrespect the woman and the feminine contribution to the world in general. Just watch literally any romantic movie made in America.
I actually found that this Russian movie goes back to simplicity. It pictures the masculine and the feminine, both the healthy and unhealthy sides of each. It goes back to the primal and basic idea of a woman and a man. It shows that the feminine is gentle, healing, and very needed. That there is no beauty and joy without it. The female character in the story is shown as a strong, brave, and a smart woman, who is also loving, caring, and gentle. It is a perfectly balanced feminine character and her actions show that. I found the movie empowering to women and encouraging to embrace the gentle and loving feminine within us, showing us that the man/the masculine cannot function well without it, and vice versa. It is true that we do need each other. Every happy marriage on the planet has recognized and embraced this balance. The woman in this movie literally has tamed a dragon with her unconditional love, and she brought out the best in that man she met. She helped him embrace all of himself and become a strong healthy masculine man. That is the effect of a strong healthy feminine on men, and it should be cherished, not shamed.
I want to say, this movie is really so beautiful. If you like love stories, despite predictability, it will sweep you off your feet. It is just such a beautiful piece of art to watch. It awakens some deep feelings inside you and it is very inspiring.
Bliss (2021)
Hits home
Not in a way that I personally experienced addiction, but I have seen people go there. The vibes are very familiar. I couldn't understand why this movie hits home so much until I checked out the writer. He was literally born where I live so I think that explains why the vibes of this movie literally hit home. Much darkness, it was heavy to watch.
Not trying to bash it by all means, a really good, deep, psychological movie. I'd give it 8/10 but it deserves a higher rating than what it currently has.
As for analysis, I always say, true art leaves room for interpretation. And I really like that about this movie.
I personally prefer seeing multiple perspectives and merging them, so to me all of it is very real. It doesn't matter if it's a simulation or psychosis, it's real either way. We might as well be a similation (plenty of research on that) yet we experience everything deeply. It all matters. Even if it's simply all in his head and all "made up". I'd quote Harry Potter here but I can never recall the exact words.
Anyway, this movie is a good piece of art but beware, it is dark and heavy and not exactly "entertaining", it's not a pleasure to watch it truly, so watch it only if you're seeking stimulation of your mind and not necessarily entertainment. And btw the actors are incredible (didnt expect any less from them though).
The Lost City (2022)
Very good modern romantic comedy
In today's very low TV standard, one disappointment after another, this movie has been very refreshing and enjoyable to watch.
The biggest plus was no forced wokism, no forced jokes (Im speaking to you, MCU...), no forced gender and other political BS. Simply a romantic comedy, like the ones in old times + modern trends (technology + new age stuff which served well for character development) . A little bit silly, but not overly stupid (ekhm, anyone seen "Love and Thunder"?....) to the point of unwatchable. The movie was just like classic romantic comedies, very silly but funny and light. There was absolutely NOTHING cringy in this movie in a bad way, which again should be standard for all movies but sadly is hard to come by nowadays. Daniel Radcliffe made such a good villain, I think he was cast perfectly for this role and Im happy for him that he is trying out his skills in different genres as different characters, good for him. He did a great job! Overall, all actors were great. Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum was not a combination Id ever consider but they had such great chemistry throughout the movie! Alan was very likable and charming and relatable. Beth was awesome and very likable, I wish she had more time for development, would love to know more of her story!
Overall, I was very pleased with this movie. A perfect balance of humor, romance, and fantasy. The creators of this movie have proven that it IS possible to create a neutral movie for the purpose of enjoyment and entertainment solely, and they proven that romantic comedy is not dead and a modern spin on it makes for an easy and enjoable movie.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Offensive to your mind
This movie is offensive to human mind.
I watched the first half and I just couldn't help but think qbout all the actors and how little they care about what they are even making. I kept asking myself, are they even sober do they even know what they are doing?? Why would Natalie Portman agree to be in this movie?
The entire time I felt like my mind was being taken out of my skull and squeezed and juiced and then put back.
Dont watch this movie if you want to keep your mind intact.
What happened to television over the last few years is honestly tragic and I can't believe some of my favorite actors are all in on this. So disappointing!
Doctor Who: Eve of the Daleks (2022)
Really good
I have not enjoyed the last 2 seasons AT ALL so Im not a fan of the Chibnall era. But I think the show improved a lot with the Flux.
This episode was refreshing and cute, and it had much more of the old Doctor Who vibe to it. It hit home in many ways. There was good humor, awkward funny normal people, the plot was really interesting and unpredictable the whole time throughout! I really enjoyed this episode.
The only things that I didn't like was too much dialogue and slow moving when they're on the timer, if I had 4 or 5 min to get stuff done before getting killed Id rush not move super slowly while having a relaxed conversation. And by the end the Daleks also being slow and missing shots, it was really unrealistic. But when you get over the little things, all in all this was great.
There is too much hate out there so I give it a 10 to raise the score.
Doctor Who: Flux: Chapter Six - The Vanquishers (2021)
This episode is not the best
It is probably a 6/10 but I gave the first one 1 star without waiting til the end. I was positively surprised by thus series. I liked Flux.
I HATED the last 2 seasons. Nothing about then felt like Doctor Who. I didn't like the characters, the writing was awful, no one was likable, the plots were messy and had so many holes.
I gotta be honest, I really enjoyed Flux. I wanna give credit to Chris Chibnall for picking it up and making it so much better. I certainly think this season deserves a better rating but there are too many pissed fans lol.
I finished the Flux with actually some attachment to this Doctor, and even Yaz whom I honestly hated so much. They grew on me in this season. Dan was a great addition. What makes this season so much better is the writing of the characters. I personally think it was overdone a bit, a bit extra was put in there, I could get rid of some of the side characters or reduce their story a bit, I felt some of it was unnecessary. But all in all, the writing was sooo much better. Yess, there were still moments when the Doctor was falling out of character and acting more like 10 or 11 which was annoying. But mostly she was her own Doctor, it was different and refreshing. I grew some sympathy for her and am actually going to miss her now. I really do wish we'd get another season with her and better writing. I am glad that she got to redeem herself and show what kind of Doctor she really is, what kind of personality. It's great.
I am really rating the whole season here. This episode was a mess. It could have ended much better. The 3 doctors was still lazy writing and really silly but it all worked out. Im not gonna complain. I am overall really happy with this season. I wish we got more of this Doctor in the previous 2 seasons, and more whole characters.
Doctor Who: Flux: Chapter One - The Halloween Apocalypse (2021)
Written by someone with ADHD???
Jesus, it's like 10 episodes in one. I can't keep up. What is going on? Can we please execute ONE idea at a time? 🤦♀️
The episode starts in the middle of action. Doctor and Yaz argue and yell at each other. They continue to do that throughout the whole episode.
The episode jumps around between 183729 new characters that seems like we are supposed to know? But we have never seen then before. Idk. I am SO confused. What is going on? 😭 it's almost the end and I STILL don't understand the connection between all this random stuff. Wow. Its a complete mess.
My Little Pony: A New Generation (2021)
Best movie for little kids
This movie is absolutely PERFECT for little kids. My daughter is 3.5 and watching any Disney movie comes with parental guilt. Disney movies are way too serious for kids, as much as I love them and their amazing animation and music. We need MORE movies like this one, actual kid movies!
This movie is FUN, I absolutely love watching it with my daughter, we have seen it a number of times already and it doesn't get old. The characters are all very likable (except the few bad apples), the music is great, the aesthetic is absolutely magical! This movie is definitely the quality of a Disney movie, except all the darkness and trauma LOL. Except we get rainbows and magic, and there is still drama and problems to resolve, without traumatizing our kids! I just wish they made more! Pllleaaasee make more 🙏
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
A fresh perspective on the Matrix.
The movie wasnt great, it was a lot like most movies today. But it was made to offer a fresh perspective on the old movies, to not see everything as black and white, red and blue, humans vs machines. It was made to open your minds with a neo-perspective (see what I did there).
Relax and think... there is always a message in Wachowskis movies.
The movie had to appeal to young audiences so all the people who have watched the original Matrix when it came out will not like all the modern stuff like a chick with blue hair, morpheus being a different, younger version of "cool", then swearing to look cool, all the cheesey lines, forced dry humor. I get it. Im not a big fan either. But its how movies are made today 🤷♀️ the world is different than it used to be.
There is still a message the movie conveys beyond all the annoying "decorations". You just need to look deeper and open your mind. Maybe true unity isn't limited to human beings only?
Tinker Bell (2008)
There is nothing bad about these movies
All the Tinkerbell movies are wonderful, so enjoyable to watch with little kids. My 3 year old daughter has seen so many of the Disney movies and Tinkerbell movies beat Frozen for her. She absolutely loves them. I've seen them all a gazillion times and love them so much myself. They're just so light to watch. We love the fairies and their friendship, and how all the problems get resolved with good attitude. Great lessons for little kids. The only movies that we like less are the Great Fairy Rescue and the Neverbeast, the energy of these movies are a bit darker IMO, maybe that's why my daughter doesn't like them. The values are a bit skewed in these two, as the little girl gets "codepedant" on the company of Tink and Tink sacrifices her time to spend more time with her while her friends risk their life to rescue her, it's just a little off for me. And the Neverbeast doesn't need explaining, definitely encouraging slightly off values in kids as well. So I would avoid these two movies, but the rest of them are really wonderful to watch. :)
Into the Woods (2014)
1 star reviewers have never been to the theater!
I'm here to leave the highest review possible, of course it is not a 10 star musical, I'd say 8, however the negative reviews are completely unfair. People who are giving negative reviews have never seen an actual theater play! I was lucky enough to be introduced to the theater as a kid at school, and I have always loved going to musical plays. This movie is like a 10 star theater play!! I just love it. It is high quality, you can tell they had high budget. The acting was amazing, all great actors, even the kids were amazing. I don't understand what could warn such low review here!! Its a very well done play.
Divorce (2016)
No expectations. It turned out to be a very enjoyable TV show.
I had no expectations when I started watching this series. I haven't heard good things about it. I was hoping to get into a series that is light to watch (not too stimulating, I watch a lot of SCI-FI). It was a very enjoyable TV show and I wish they didn't cancel!
So, I'll start with commenting on the negative reviews. Someone has said that this TV show is about rich people doing stupid things - so untrue! This TV show is actually pretty realistic... There is one couple that is rich, and they do stupid things, but honestly it all makes sense. The wife has no career and isn't intellectually brightest, is completely codependent and spoiled and acts like a child, that's why she's doing stupid things. I think the authors added that couple to the story to make things funny - because otherwise this show wouldn't be as light, without the humor.
And that isn't a bad thing - the show is honestly really emotionally developed. I connected with the characters so well emotionally. The main characters are very well written and played. Robert (the husband) is such a good actor! SJP did a great job and it was interesting to see her play someone else and so different than Carrie Bradshaw. She did such a good job.
Overall, the show is as mundane as I wanted it to be. It's just every day drama of every day people, it makes you think about what strangers might be going through that you would never know.
What I liked about the show:
- it is light to watch but complex enough to have to pay attention
- main characters well-developed
- very good actors (except for the daughter maybe)
- emotionally engaging
- not too stimulating but keeps you interested and wants to see what happens next
- funny moments to lighten things up when they get serious
- very happy & sad at the same time!
What I didn't like:
- I think it took a long time to be really engaging but once you engage youll appreciate the back story
- I hated how season 3 started... it didn't make any sense whatsoever. It got me wondering if I skipped a season?? I bet they changed things up because of the low ratings or something, maybe they knew they were cancelling it so they tried to wrap it up, but damn, season 2 had such a good story development and then BAM, season 3 suddenly jumps way into the future without giving us any insight.. it sucked. But even after that the show was still really good.
I really wish this show was more appreciated. I am very picky about anything I consume and if I liked it, it definitely deserved to continue :D
