Girl in the Picture (2022)
Overall great.
Overall it's a great documentary, leads you down a rabbit hole you just wouldn't expect. But leaves you with a lot of questions, because of some missing information/things they just didn't discuss. Like where are the 2 sisters she had now? The mother was a absolute joke, was and is she ever going to be investigated. I feel as if she sold her daughter to him, the empathy the tried to display felt disingenuous. You watch your friend get raped by their father and don't tell anyone immediately. Overall sad story about a beautiful girl with a tragic twisted life that ended too soon. I wish she was alive to tell her story. That man is the definition of evil.
Queen & Slim (2019)
Upsetting
I had high hopes but the movie just felt sloppy. The ending realistic but upsetting. The plot had so much potential. Almost wanted to be Bonnie and Clyde but they truly were innocent so it just felt wrong. I don't understand why on the run knowing that people are looking for her, would she not cover up her bandage leg. A lot of dumb decisions. Overall a let down bc I think I had such high expectations. Just felt like another black trauma movie.
Childer (2016)
Interesting symbolism of mental illness.
I think this was a beautiful short, a bit slow but I didn't mind. The mother who is clean, average looking, seemingly harmless. The innocent son she seemed to have no interest in. You wouldn't think this film would take the turn it does, but the foreshadowing kinda gives it away. I think it shows mental illness in such a intriguing way. I wonder if the children were even real. Or just a representation of the mother's mental decline. Beautifully filmed, if you don't mind a slow burn definitely give this one a watch.
Other Side of the Box (2018)
Perfectly eerie.
A perfectly eerie short film. As you watch you wonder how and why. *Slight spoiler* they never show you exactly if/how the couple dies, leaving you to wonder if and how they did. Which because of the creepy imagery and tone leaves you unsettled. Watch this a year ago and still think about the ending. Watched it again a few days ago, and it still gave me fear. Made me wonder what I would do if I was in that situation. Definitely worth watching.
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
Ruined Dexter *slight spoiler*
Storyline ruined dexter's character arc. Really disappointing. I would have rather it ended with him disappearing into a hurricane again. A few plot holes and certain things that went no where that felt like it was missing. Why bring back Batista and not have a moment between him and Dexter. A small town cop takes him down after she asked for help to solve murders she couldn't even figure out. Just made zero sense. Just messy and a pointless revival. Also a huge f.u. Harrison, kid deserves a grave. Wonder who's going to guide his dark passenger (bc he clearly has one just like his father)!
