The Shift (2023)
This is a solidly put together Sci-Fi thriller
Do not allow biblical references stop you from seeing this great movie. Other positive reviewers have covered the why, just say why not and watch.
Ok so now I need to fill this space with enough characters, to be allowed to place a review of a movie that does not need a positive review from me, a regular joe-schmo, that has my own taste in movie and film entertainment.
But I am unwilling to let my chance go to let you know that you should give this movie a look.
The acting was excellent and the script on point with developing characters and hitting the emotional highs and lows of a good drama.
Oh look the minimum characters have been met. If you read this far you didn't need to, because all I needed to say was in that first paragraph.
National Lampoon's Animal House (1978)
If being the first to put it on the screen makes this a classic....
So I never actually sat down to watch this until today. I was 9 when it came out. I had seen snippets probably on cable TV, and maybe that's why I waited. None of those snippets ever made me laugh. But this is touted by SNL fanboys as funny, so it must be funny. Yeah about as funny as Harold Ramis in Ghostbusters. It was dry, boring and skittish. There are plenty of movies in this genre that came later that far surpass what this movie did. I will give them credit for being the first to try this script, but if you are looking for laughs you may get two chuckles in the 100 minutes. It is that simple.
IMDb Originals: In Memoriam 2021 (2021)
2 missing
John Madden and Betty White are missing from this short In memorium. I guess it was wishful thinking to complete this video tribute bèfore they passed. They still have not.
The Resurrection of Gavin Stone (2017)
If you can get over your fear of being in the presence of something Christian.....
This is a good movie that will bring smiles and for some maybe tears. It is entertaining, which is hard to find coming out of Hollywood these days. It is underated probably because that same Hollywood and all its cronies like Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB paid critics are afraid of a movie like this.
And maybe they have a right to be afraid.
IT IS NOT a movie intent on 'saving' you or turning you to the Lord. IT IS NOT a Hallmark movie. You are not going to have the urge to be 'Born Again' after you watch this movie. It is not a movie directed at a Christian audience. You can almost hear the fear in the negative reviews on this movie, so much so it is laughable.
It is a movie directed by a man (if that offends you then this movie is not for you), who takes his inspiration from his Faith in Christianity. Dallas Jenkins is a skilled director who casts for characters that work well together on the screen. At it's heart it is a romantic comedy. It is a movie who want to be entertained. It is a feel good movie. You remember those, don't you? It is a movie where you don't have to fast forward through parts because of sex, drugs, inappropriate language, violence or crude humor.
One warning though, if you watch it with your kids and you are entirely drowned in secularism, whatever form it takes, be prepared to answer questions.
For me it's a solid 7 on IMDB. I could watch it again.
May God Bless You.
Sherlock Holmes: The Sign of Four (1968)
Sorry to burst the bubble of the Other commenter's but....
.... this Sign of Four was made in 1968 and starred Peter Cushing as Holmes. So why are most commenter's discussing Jeremy Brett's version here? And why is the picture associated with this TV episode a picture of Jeremy Brett? Peter Cushing admittedly did not like the Holmes he portrayed on for the TV episodes, but to me he is not what is wrong with this version or the other Holmes adaptations he has done. The made for TV Holmes of the English 60s makes you feel like you are actually watching a play rather than a movie. I think this is a great aspect to viewing an already known piece of material. (I am sure that this will not be the first sign of four anyone has seen nowadays.) It shows the viewer a different perspective of the characters. It definitely makes you feel like you are actually in the room with the actors. With that being said I give this version a 7.
