Columbus Circle (2012)
Self-isolation is real
A month ago, we ventured out into the world after 11 months of staying at home. The farthest we went out was the backyard when we threw the trash. It was surreal. Life is still going on amidst the pandemic. There is still traffic and people going about their business. We felt like the apocalyptic movies we have seen where you go out after hiding in the basement for so long and to find out that life still goes on. Or maybe we watched too many movies? The struggle was real. Fear was real. We now felt what the actress, Selma Blair, played in the movie. Her acting was very believable. We could feel her pain. We enjoyed the storyline.
Mardaani 2 (2019)
Universal Problem
We watched "Mardaani 2" with our Mom and we all enjoyed it even though we had to read the subtitles. Rani Mukherji is such a great actress. She portrayed her character well. It was believable. Her movies are powerful for the message they convey to the watchers.
Mardaani (2014)
Powerful Film
We watched "Mardaani" with our Mom and we all enjoyed it even though we had to read the subtitles. Rani Mukherji is such a great actress. She portrayed her character well. It was believable. Her movies are powerful for the message they convey to the watchers.
The Lie (2018)
All About The Love
A parents' love and sacrifice are immeasurable. How far will a parents' love go for the sake of their child? Have just finished watching "The Killing" and surprised to see familiar actresses and actor. It was a hoot watching Mireille Enos playing ex-wife to Peter Sarsgaard when they played detective and convict from "The Killing". Mireille Enos gave another stellar performance!
The Killing (2011)
The Show Came Full Circle
Every night after the chores are done, we watch. Mom and we just finished binge-watching "The Killing". We enjoyed it as it progressed. The show's Seattle weather didn't help much as it was somber which paralleled the crime. Some of the episodes were directed by Patty Jenkins, so we knew it would be good. The show was well-casted and we liked the chemistry between the two lead stars, Mireille Enos (Sarah Linden) and Joel Kinnaman (Stephen Holder). Both characters were flawed, but together they worked to solve the cases. We were left every night guessing who was the killer as one of the storylines expanded thru two whole seasons. Great writing and closure when the fourth season ended.
Mireille Enos is such a great actress. Her facial expressions spoke volume.
We did enjoy watching police crime dramas like, "Hunter" (1984), "Cold Case" (2003) and "Shades of Blue" (2016) and now "The Killing" (2011) has been added to that list.
Hichki (2018)
Hits Close To Home
We love watching foreign films, but we often find ourselves attracted to Indian movies (Bollywood). They remind us of Filipino movies you get drama, comedy, action, a love story then the singing and dancing would start all in one movie. We have seen mostly of Rani Mukerji's movies. With the latest three movies we have seen, Rani Mukerji has grown and matured. We remember watching her sing and dance, all formula and cheesy movies. Now her movies tackle social issues facing India today.
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan (2011)
Hidden Love
"Snow Flower and The Secret Fan" is a beautiful, tender and interesting movie. Do people in China still have "laotong" or did it stop when women stopped binding their feet? What if the matchmaker paired up boys and girls from a young age just like in the movie so when they grow up, they already know and love one another instead of being forced into a marriage?
Puzzle (2018)
Puzzling Life
We enjoyed watching this drama movie. A simple housewife discovering her passion, venturing into a new world, finding herself, her voice and her worth.
Hanna (2019)
A Second Chance
Our nightly routine with Mom is watching either a movie or binge-ing on a TV show. We have been watching an Amazon Original on Amazon Prime, "Hanna". We haven't seen the original 2011 movie. After a couple of episodes, we were kind of getting bored. We gave it a second chance and we slowly enjoyed the character development. We got caught up in the cat and mouse thriller action. Esme Creed-Miles gives a believable performance of a strong, in-your-face-girl who is being tracked down by another strong woman played by Mireille Enos, who has secrets of her own and Joel Kinnaman, a strong father figure. We are looking forward to its third season.
The Wilds (2020)
A Second Chance
Our nightly routine with Mom is watching either a movie or binge-ing on a TV show. We have been watching an Amazon Original on Amazon Prime, "The Wilds". After a couple of episodes, we weren't sure if we would like to continue watching or not. It looked like the show we all loved, "Lost", but this time with teenagers. We don't know if we wanted to watch coming-of-age teenage drama, but after giving it a second chance, we slowly enjoyed the characters and each of their story. The flashbacks and foreshadowing were interestingly woven. Now we are looking forward to its second season.
