The Beekeeper (2024)
Not an original concept but Statham always kicks ass
I'll watch any movie with Jason Statham in it, and I am more than likely always going to enjoy it. The film does have that whole John Wick vibe, like, you don't mess with John Wick, and the same goes for the beekeeper.
I do miss the good old real kick-ass Statham has delivered previously in his transporter films. The film could have showcased more of Statham's impressive fighting skills, which would have been a great addition.
I enjoy a good action film like this now and then. It's not cinema material, but not many films are these days.
The girl playing the FBI agent whose mum got killed in the beginning has no acting abilities whatsoever. She sucks just as badly in this as she does in the umbrella academy. Something about her is annoying, but I can't pinpoint it.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023)
No Godzilla, bad acting and a wasted opportunity
I wish I didn't have to write such a long review because I genuinely feel the title alone sums up this show be very well.
First episode started off quite promising and likewise got me excited for the second episode, I quickly realised there's really not much action in regards to titans, more like just a whole lot of talk about titans.
The trailers had me convinced this was going to be a good show but it is far from it. I expected something from Apple to be real promising but like most streaming platforms, they take a renown movie name and make the audience think it's somehow related and then bam completely ruin the brand.
Do yourself a favour and just avoid this monstrosity.
Gen V (2023)
Room for improvement but watchable
I love anything with superhero themed concepts and that includes The Misfits, if you don't know it, then you're missing out.
So, first of all and this must be said. The lead's ability is lame in my opinion, she should perhaps be a side character because she doesn't play a lead character well at all and her acting is a little meh. Perhaps, someone like Danielle Rose Russel.
What I do enjoy about the show though, is the shows is a more realistic reality of what would more than likely happen if you really had powers. It's raw, uncut and there's lots of blood which I'm there for. I do think the writers have to work on the characters abilities though. I'll be happy to suggest some decent ones.
I definitely think there's room for improvement. I personally feel it needs someone who can bring some humour to the show, similar to the skinny guy from 'the Boys'. Humour really helps to keep people engaged in a show and so far I'm not that compelled to binge watch it.
The current actors are a little meh but I do appreciate Chance Perdomo as a familiar face from 'chilling adventures of Sabrina'.
Blue Beetle (2023)
This film left me more confused than anything
I was extremely looking forward to this film having seen the trailers but like most films, the trailers had more action than the actual film.
DC has a lot of great characters but warners brothers really don't know how to monopolise and bring life to these characters.
Firstly, this aunt has looked years for this beetle but after finding it, it's in a room with one geek guy without a guard in sight to protect it.
The uncle whose given no back story suddenly has this heavy tech equipment without any explanation as to why he has it, or what it was for; not even some simple explanation like he's a paranoid physicist, uses this tech to disable a high tech company that's been around for years and should have state of the art security tenfold to what this random uncle can do.
This same uncle then goes on to fly some beetle ship that he's never been in.
This grandma who looks more fragile than a McDonald's chip is able to carry a gun the same size as her and knows how to instantly use it, just because she was rebel back in the day.
The kid in the beetle suit gets told he has to live with this amazing body armour that will protect him his whole life and he turns around and gets all sad about that, I mean come on! When Peter Parker realise he could shoot webs, he was ecstatic!!
Warner brothers should just give their rights away to someone who will actually respect DC. Even a guy in a comic shop could create something better than this...
Such a shame.
Ghost Adventures: Lake of Death (2023)
What did I just watch
At this point, I think these guys should be cancelled. I thought I was watching an episode of love island or something. Consistently making things up about how they feel and over exaggerating and being loud. How is discovery still hosting this show on their platform?
It was so obvious there was a moth and the claimed it to be an orb haha.
They're showing off with these new tools but never catching anything.
Bagel speaking about feeling like he was hit in the stomach, no bro, you're just old dude. Clearly got a few medical issues going on.
All of these guys are all old as hell now. Time to pack up. I can no longer watch this over dramatised pile of doodle
I recently started watching destination fear and that in its four short seasons had more evidence than ghost adventures has had in its whole 24 something seasons.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
Ahh, so so bad
I'm a big fan of DC and Marvel but I don't know why, I just can't bring myself to watch this guy Zachary. I just find his acting terrible! I managed to pull myself through the first film and I thought I should give this film a chance. So, he's meant to be playing this dumb Shazam character but he's just not funny with it but I assume that's what he was trying.
I'm glad that DC is restructuring. If they reconsider a Shazam film, find better actors. This is probably one of their worse films in my opinion and I know they don't have a good track record of good films, especially the recent Rob Patterson Batman film which was also terrible.
I want so much for DC to become better and grow, so here's to hoping that happens.
Extraordinary (2023)
Misfits and Inbetweeners mash up
It's been a long time since I've been able to enjoy a good British comedy. This is the classic British comedy that we live for, that you know for a fact any other culture would think it's disgusting but us British mop the humour up.
The abilities are so random and almost never been thought of in any other mutant programme, especially the dude that craps 3D models!! The fact that half the people with powers have no idea how to use them efficiently is even funnier, more specifically the guy that phases through the wall half way and his butt is the only thing showing lmao!
To top it off, the outro at the end of every episode are like one hit punch lines that get me giggling every time.
The only thing that could make this better is if I saw Jay from the Inbetweeners randomly pop up and finally have the power to pull a girl.
Keep this up! I want more seasons and more episodes per season!!!
You People (2023)
I expected more
I wish I could leave a more in depth review but honestly I couldn't watch past the first fifteen minutes.
I was expecting a film with Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy to be a enjoyable comedy duo. I was imagining something like the film 'Why him'
For me, it just didn't do enough to grab my attention. I remember Jonah being funnier in the past too and that's likely why I watched a few of his films but this just a bit dry.
From seeing the other reviews, I'm glad I didn't press on because it seems I would have wasted more of my time.
To be honest I was looking forward to seeing Eddie Murphy in some new films but I don't believe his new films are hitting hard enough right now, or his choices aren't great.
I'd like see him revamp a classic Beverley hills cop or something.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
Very meh...
Just didn't have the spark like the first black panther movie. It certainly didn't deserve a stand alone film in my opinion and could have been a 3 part tv show. For comparison, I would have said this was on par with the ms marvel show as that was too very meh.
I don't know if it was the directing or just the fact that the female lead just didn't have that certain wow factor. I just personally think the male leads bring more action to the game and being a man that's what I like to see.
I found captain marvel was very boring too.
If we consider something like Resident evil movies, I found them to very enjoyable. So, it's definitely not the fact that I don't appreciate female lead movies. Perhaps, the chosen actors for leads in majority of marvel movies just don't cut it or the producers don't demand much from them and that's where it lacks; as I imagine they'd push male actors further and get more from them.
Anyway, that's my opinion. If I hadn't watched it, I wouldn't have been none the wiser.
The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
Uneventful
The first two episodes started of very strong which kept me in suspense for the following episode, however episode 3 killed that feeling.
I have never played the game, so based on an outsider's perspective. This episode other than the first 20mins or so with the preparation and raiders coming and getting smoked by the flamethrowers, I found it to be boring; especially because they both died in the end and hence didn't do much for the story line in my opinion. I skipped through majority of the episode until the two main characters came in the end of the show for like 4 minutes.
If I hadn't watched it and went straight to episode 4, I don't think i would have even noticed.
Kateo (2022)
This must be what ecstasy feels like
The film certainly had potential but I couldn't watch more than 20mins without feeling nauseous.
It's as if a child had filmed everything on their iPhone and just stitched random frames together, not to mention half off the clips looked as if they were from a computer game.
Well if anyone ever wants to experience what it feels like to take ecstasy and mushrooms at the same time without actually taking it, then watch this film.
I would like the film to have a re-release without all the dumb upside down and shaky camera angles. Argh!
Day Shift (2022)
Simple but enjoyable
Honestly, this was a simple straightforward but enjoyable and fun film to watch. Don't understand what's with all the negative reviews. Too many movies are over compensating with CGI these days with storylines that make absolutely no sense or are impossible to follow along. I would say this is comparable to the diehard days and it's not like It's a cinema release movie, so you can't have high expectations. This was made for those chilled out evenings eating popcorn and smoking a joint.
I think people these days have been spoilt with too much CGI and can't appreciate a straight shooting film.
Resident Evil (2022)
Single handedly ruined the 'Resident Evil' concept
Here's the problem. When you use a name like 'Resident Evil' you have to deliver 'Resident Evil'.
People have expectations in their mind. Could have just called this another zombie name and it may have had better feedback.
Netflix has ruined the image of 'Resident Evil' for me.
If you discard the fact that they're trying to sell the show by using the more recognisable name, it's an okay watch if you're extremely bored and watched everything else on Netflix but don't have high expectations.
Stranger Things: Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab (2022)
The pieces fit together like a puzzle
It's not often that you see something that you didn't know you needed to see.
The season started of a little tedious with not a lot of action but it all led to this episode and I am so glad that I stayed with it.
Fantastic episode and cannot wait for the final two!!
Annarasumanara (2022)
One of the best K-Tv Netflix series out there
Two of my favourite concepts in one show. Fantasy and singing! I'm sure a lot of people would have doubt the concept of intertwining both but in my opinion, I think it's fantastic. Plus, there's nothing like being wowed from a little magic. I'm from the U. K. where Harry Potter was everything, so I guess the feeling fits when I first watched that film.
It certainly helps having a familiar face Ji Chang-wok, otherwise it could have been looked over.
I'm just sad that there where only 6 episodes.
I hope Netflix thinks of this concept again in the future. It's been a long time, since I genuinely smiled and enjoyed a show all the way through.
The Batman (2022)
Worse Batman movie of the decade
Only DC has the ability to take something great and make it crap.
Their recent Batman films with Ben Afleck and Christian Bale in my opinion were probably the best they've made and they were on the right path. But then they brought this film out!!!
1. Film is too long
2. This Batman is probably the most depressing Batman I've ever seen
3. I lost interest in 45 minutes
Unless someone is a real Batman or Robert Pattison lover, I don't believe anyone should waste their time watching it.
I hope they don't ruin the next Superman, if there is any.
Seolganghwa (2021)
Bit of a snore fest
I'm very good at judging wether a show is good by the first episode.
This is incredibly slow and unlike some great tv shows, fails to draw my attention. If you're looking to watch something set in this period that's actually enjoyable to watch. Stick with crash-landing.
Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father (2017)
Good humour-sad to see it end
It's sad to see this come to an end, I have really enjoyed it!
The final season has definitely helped me realise my suspicions though and that is, the U. K. sucks! Lol
I would love to see another season in Asia!!
Ghost Adventures (2008)
The show has gone down hill
I used to enjoy this show a lot, however, recently I find that after using the puc, Zac manipulates what it says in order to fit his story, when clearly it sounds nothing alike. Also, in the terror at the toy shop when the crossbow toy fell over and they replayed the footage, it clearly looks as if it's just appeared, as if the footage was amended. Moreover, the show is very predictable. When there's a little bit of action going on, such as: an orb or a sound, they repeat the clip over and over as gap fillers because you can already anticipate that there's not going to be much else worth showing.
I think they need to have their own YouTube channel and get back to authenticity! Instead of faking it for viewership just because discovery channel are paying their wages.
The Ice Road (2021)
If your a Liam Neeson fan go ahead, otherwise avoid.
I enjoyed some of his other films and that's the only reason I gave this film a shot. I don't really pay attention to critics because half of the time they dislike a film I extremely enjoy it and the same goes for films that they highly rate I tend to really hate. In regards to this film though they were on point. I was able to watch for about an hour and then I just lost interest.
Sweet Tooth (2021)
New netflix favourite
I love animals and I love fantasy films. This tv show has both therefore that's the perfect remedy for this being one of my new favourite shows on Netflix.
Kinda has a Narnia feel but better because it's a longer adventure!
Great job Netflix!!
Army of the Dead (2021)
I expected more from Zack
After watching Justice League Snyders cut I was looking forward to watching this movie.
Straight to Netflix release should have been a precursor for me not to expect much.
I love Omari, being a Power fan and Bautista off course. The others were okay.
It was watchable but I wanted to see more action. Probably, the best part of the whole film was the female annihilating the zombies towards the beginning of the film.
I don't know if anyone else noticed but as the zombies were being shot their eyes were blue as if they were half android, which I found a little odd.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Perfectly executed sequel!!
Zach Snyder, you're the man! How you introduced the characters into the film, and filled the gaps to questions that I had on the other version, was perfect.
Power: He Always Wins (2020)
Irrelevant episode
Honestly I'd already forgotten about Angeles sister, I find her character to be tedious as it is, a whole episode surrounding her character I felt not needed, hopefully doesn't make it into playbook 2
