RuPaul's Drag Race UK vs the World: Grand Finale (2022)
A finale of RuPaul's Drag Race
That was undeniably a finale. Of all the finales I've watched of Drag Race, that was truly one of them. Brimming with queens, judges, performances, and a winner. This has been one of the seasons 2022 had to offer, honestly one of the seasons ever made.
American Horror Story: Take Me to Your Leader (2021)
Well Ryan, you had us in the first half...
What started off as a great 1950s alien abduction story with amazing potential immediately turned into a poorly written cringe worthy episode of the lame spinoff series American Horror Stories.
Ryan always struggles at knowing how to edit down his ideas, but this was a whole other level of bad idea. He literally said, "What if I take a super stylized 50s sci-fi horror story and merge it with a group of obnoxious teenage influencers talking about their sex lives at nauseating levels?"
Can we just cut the remaining modern-day plot out of the season and just focus on the 50s please?
Britney vs Spears (2021)
Save yourself some time and just watch the NYT documentaries
This documentary was a huge disappointment after the excellence of the New York Times docs Framing Britney Spears & Controlling Britney Spears. It gives a lot of solid info for those new to the conservatorship case, but where it epically fails is its portrayal of her former manager Sam Lufti. The filmmaker's bias is apparent in how they brush over a lot of the details of the guy in an attempt to make him seem misunderstood. He is a known abuser who has had a handful of restraining orders against him from other women he attempted to control and financially swindle. This documentary gives Lufti way too much credit and attempts to make him look like a "good guy."
Just because Jamie Spears is a monster doesn't mean Lufti can't also be a monster. To imply everything Britney's parents said about him is a lie is to also discredit the other women who filed restraining orders against him. I wish Netflix hadn't stooped so low as to involve this piece of trash.
The Resort (2021)
Well, this certainly was...something.
This is a brilliant example of how a movie can fail at everything. How such a big piece of garbage even got made and released is beyond me. If you still insist on watching it after reading every review on here, do yourself a favor and just watch the last 20 minutes. It's still absolute trash, but you might get a few good laughs out of it.
The New York Times Presents: Framing Britney Spears (2021)
A heartbreaking look at a pop icon's legacy
The New York Times did an excellent job and revisiting Spears' career through the #metoo lens and highlighting the constant misogyny she dealt with from a young age all the way until now. It will give you a newfound respect for her, one that is well overdue.
