Battlespace (2006)
Proof that real Science Fiction still exists
I would normally give this 8 stars, but I am giving it a ten to counteract the strange reviews this film is getting. Honestly, I got a lot from this film. The depth of universe created here rivals much bigger films. The film is very low on dialogue, and that's the whole point. A story is told without words, but shown with great complexity through the lead character's, Mara's actions. When you watch the film, you walk the journey she walks. You feel pain when she feels pain, you cry when she cries. As a woman who served briefly in the military, I strongly connected with Mara's plight, and the loneliness of being away from your loved ones. I feel Battlespace will survive the test of time and lone day become a B-movie classic. A lot of people hated 2001 for similar reasons, but now it is remembered. Please Hollywood, make more movies like this
To Become One (2002)
Didn't expect that!!!
I saw the trailer for this and was not expecting it to be anything more than a slasher film. Boy was i wrong. It begins as a normal slasher movie and then about 40 minutes in, it changes. That's when it gets really creepy. I really enjoyed the character moments in the first half. The second half just gave me nightmares. I would like to say i will watch this film again but I do not think I can do this. It freaked me way too much. It shows a lot of depth and is different from the director's first movie, Demons in My Head. I see he shot this one himself and the results are much better than his first outing. the film has a real visual mood. The picture quality on the DVD could have been better, but at least it was letter boxed. I hope you enjoy this film as much as I did. I wish i had the courage to watch it again. The British doctor in the film is great, and very sexy for an older man.
The Demons in My Head (1996)
Surprised me!!
This is an amazing film, especially being a low budget. It left me thinking for days. I liked it more the second time through. Thecharacters really have depth. The story is based around the passage from the bible in Genesis that speaks of the Nephilim, who are fallen angels. The makeup on the nephilim is quite remarkable. I know a bit about makeup and it looks like they glued latex to the entire body of the actor. This would've taken hours (10 maybe) to do. The only character that did not appeal to me was the Marcia, but then she turned out to be not what I expected at the end. There is a British actor in this called David Vallon who makes a different appearance in the director's next film, To Become One. The special effects are not bad either. This film was done a few years ago so the clothing is a little dated. Soon it will become retro and cool I expect.
