Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
A Decent Start
A decent start, only rolled my eyes a few times and nothing made me outright ill. Let's see if they manage to screw it up like they have every other Star Trek TV series since Enterprise. My money is on no longer being a viewer by Episode 5, but I have hopes.
Aiyai: Wrathful Soul (2020)
Too many allowances given for Indie films
Why do reviewers always feel the need to give allowances for indie and small production films? If the movie is not good, just say so.... why the "for an indie project" caveats ? Does this movie reak of garbage ? Not quite, it does have its moments, but if this were a big studio production you would not be seeing any 7s, 8s, and 9s given to it. There would be many paragraphs pointing out the flaws.
Foundation (2021)
A Good Watch If You Aren't Familiar with Asimov
Foundation on its own is a pretty good and entertaining show. However, having read the Asimov books, its a little offputting that the show altered main characters ALOT from what the are in the books, even inventing things that simply never happened in the books.
There is also ALOT of PC culture shoved in, to the point where it almost doesn't fit given the status of the empire.
That being said, if you are going into it without knowing anything about the books, the characters, etc. Then I'm confident you will find it enjoyable and worth watching. If you're an Asimov fan however, do not expect a faithful following of the book series.
The Mauritanian (2021)
Fantastic film... remembering it's a movie, not a history book
Viewing the movie as a source of entertainment and NOT an accurate historical account, it's a great movie. Really good.
The being said, the "true story" tag is like saying Santa Clause is based on a true story. Certain things may parallel with actual events, but with mounds of embellishment piled on, enjoy the movie for what it is, ENTERTAINMENT. As always with stories told by the "victim", Mohamedou Ould Salahi is portrayed as squeaky clean, although investigated for multiple terrorist plots. Being a citizen of one of the few countries left in the world where slavery is practiced openly (although it is not lawful), the link to human trafficking as a source of funding certain activities is also suspected, yet not explored. Look for the Director Kevin Macdonald's follow-up about the exemplary life of Osama Bin Laden.
