Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)
the director's New York influence is very evident and this movie makes me cry
You know what they say, anyone that spends any time in New York can never let go of it. This movie makes me cry so hard. This movie makes me want to live my life truly. How long can we work and then retire and live as old people waiting to die ? How many friends do we have ? How many unplanned road trips have we taken where we forget about our existences and time and yet, become more aware of our existences ? Have we gone sky diving ? Life is too short. Truly.
The director is phenomenally talented and deserves every accolade. The writing is just another level. God knows why the best writers of any medium are either the English or Muslim but it is what it is.
Rebel Without a Cause (1955)
the cultural impact and influence this movie has had is insane
This is one of those movies which i felt like i had watched a billion times before. Every scene was iconic especially the wrestling ones and james dean flirting with his co- stars regardless of the gender. I had even watched the behind the scenes before !!!
The ambivalent sexuality and sex appeal of dean must be talked about and for some reason it made me research about the love affair between marlon brando and him. This movie was ahead of its time. 10/10.
Bãhubali 2: The Conclusion (2017)
i liked the first part better
The first part was where the filmmakers were modestly trying to create a mammoth work of art. Here, it looks like they fell in love with prabhas and the character and made it, at times, laughable and a bit comical. It sounded self- indulgent. The hero should not have been so morally white and the villain so morally black. But maybe that is just the way indian cinema works and me, a foreigner just does not think on the same lines when it comes to cinema. Noteworthy however, is that the first part has been given a crisp 10 rating by me and it shocks me how this movie is rated higher than the first part. The whole question of "why did bahubali get killed by katappa" was, in my opinion, an easy guess. I still love indian cinema and this is good work of art but Mughal- E- Azam still ranks supreme as India's cinematic gift to the world. That movie should be ranked higher and not the same as this movie. Good but comical at times. Maybe the people should watch the movie once and only then release. The story and graphics an acting are the saving face of this movie.
Mughal-E-Azam (1960)
there will never be another Mughal-E-Azam
As all great things go, there will never be another movie quite like this, not even close. I am a sucker for cinema classics and forbidden, pining love so this one hit the spot for me. The writing is sublime and exquisite and is poetry to the ears, the soundtracks accentuate the emotions present on the silver screen. Madhubala and her timeless beauty, oh we lost her too soon. Reminds me of Monroe and Kennedy.
The Social Network (2010)
my prada's at the washers
I'd say that the vast majority of this movie was interesting because of the recurring colour palette by Fincher and the tongue- in-cheek, snarky dialogue by Sorkins and oscar-worthy acting by Eisenberg. That being said, it won three oscars and that is it. Did not give it a 10 because at times it wasn't as sleek as excpected and got bland. Overall great cinematic experience.
Goodfellas (1990)
you know why ? it was out of respect
What can i say ? It is goodfellas, it is f--king sorsese, joe pesci and de niro and ray liotta. It shocks me how a story as boring as this is can be made interesting by amazing directing. Truly sets the standard for mafia movies. This is in fact a movie that ages like wine watched it last night and it hit just as well as it did when i was 10.
Taxi Driver (1976)
a masterpiece to watch at 1 am
I can go on for days and days on how this movie is the greatest of all time and what it means and all that, but honestly i don't care about that, this movie has changed my life and has given me a new perspective on life and i think this is cinema finally harnessing its power in its raw, pure, alienating façade.
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair (2006)
too excited and scared to actually watch it
I thought of the original kill bill movies as the stuff of legends a work of cinema for the ages but now they are saying this is better so i am scared as this is a historical monumental moment i have to plan it
also let's maintain the rating till it reaches 10k votes so it in the top 250. And let's make sure the locals don't find it and vote it down sorry punctuation freaks.
Inception (2010)
The Taxi Driver of this century
In an era of Hollywood purely dependent on remakes and sequels and ostentatiously used visuals without much of any intellectual simulation, Inception was serotonin to the exhausted and burned out mind. Inception is where the cinema and novel lovers find solace. (It is our abode like this website is)
Inception is way more than a movie, it is a lifestyle, an escape from the cruel reality of today (ironic, truly), a reason to wake up in the morning, it is the incarnation, epitome and living embodiment of everything you hold dear and near to your heart, everything you will ever need, everything you want, a reason to breathe, a reason to chuckle, a caress from a loved one, the elated feeling when you open a gift on Christmas, a warm hug.
Inception is this and so much more to people like me. One viewing of this movie is enough for the effect to last a few days at least. It is a cultural reset and shall be referred to for many years to come. Point blank period.
