La casa lobo (2018)
Visual Insanity
This is unlike anything I've ever seen before. Stop-motion is generally a cool medium, but "The Wolf House" takes it to a whole new level. The film comprises of wall paintings and rough models, that morph into each other throughout the film. As the camera moves, the set around it changes. The wall colour changes, furniture moves around, etc. Its so visually striking that you can't take your eyes of it. It took 5 years to make, and I can see why. Everything is so detailed. They could have made it easy for themselves, but instead went as far as possible to make an incredible film. The jolty camera and rough models make the film very eerie to watch. Despite not having any jump scares or violence, it is very grotesque and terrifying. On top of that the dialogue is chilling. The characters whisper into your ear, it literally gave me chills. I'd say use headphones or surround sound speakers to watch this, cause hearing the dialogue like it's coming from a person whispering into your ear really adds to the experience. Story wise, it's very weird. There's obviously a hidden meaning behind, buts It's not very clear. The dialogue is very ambiguous at times so don't worry if you're not getting the story, this films more about the visuals.
The Descent (2005)
Decent horror Movie
I quite liked it. The monsters were well designed and the cave setting it very cool. I heard that people felt claustrophobic watching this. I felt it when they first enter the cave, in that tight hole, but not for the rest of the film. The cave system was too big to give that feeling, they were walking around most of the time. I would have preferred more of the cave being a scare factor, by having it be really tight or filling with water, etc. Instead it focused heavily on the creature aspect, which I didn't like as much, been done many times before.
I didn't like that it made Juno a villain, her death was unjustified. The friends death was accidental, the only other thing she did was slept with protagonists dead husband. Sure she's a terrible person, but not a villain that deserves to be betrayed. As the one that was the reason for them being there in the first place, she deserved to die the most, but she was given a bad rep. Make sure you watched the UK version, the US version had a different ending that wasn't as good. The UK version is the original ending and is much better.
Knives Out (2019)
Falls flat
I wanted to like this movie, but just couldn't get into it. Firstly I do not like Daniel Craig's accent, it annoys me. It's not too bad that I would hate the movie for it, but I just wanna point that out. I also hate the can't lie without vomiting idea. It's just a lazy way to solve a plot point. To be fair the "whodunnit" movies are not easy to achieve. Lots of movies struggle to come up with a satisfying ending that would exceed the viewers expectations. Sadly Knives Out fails to have a satisfying reveal and falls flat because of it.
The Lion King (2019)
What a rip off
Its just a shot for shot remake of the original film, but not as good. Sure the visuals are very impressive, but it loses the charm of the original. Due to having realistic animals the characters are expressionless. In the original, due to the animation style, the characters had a lot more emotion and depth than these blank models. Disney lately has been remaking lots of their old classics, which I hate, but this is the worse one yet. At least with the others they change the movie a little, this is just bad modern copy of the classic Lion King. They should have just replayed the original in the cinemas, would've been better than this.
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)
It never ends
I couldn't stand watching this movie and it felt like it was never gonna end. It wasn't funny, don't think I laughed once. It's just so repetitive, we get it he "sailed right out there". That's not funny, just annoying.
Kanashimi no Beradonna (1973)
Beautiful Film
This film blew me away. The animation is stunning. The water colour art and the fluidity of the animation make for a crazy psychedelic experience. A fair bit of the film is still images, I assume due to budget issues, but it doesn't bother me. In fact, due to the wonderful art, I quite like it, it's like reading a picture book. The music is also spot on. Mixed with the art makes for a wonderful experience. There is a lot of sexual imagery in it, so maybe don't watch it if you're not into that kind of thing. It is a bit over the top at times but I think it mostly works. It's an thoughtful and sad tragedy about suffering and desire. It is truly a work of art, please watch this hidden gem, I can't recommend it enough.
Gekijouban Violet Evergarden (2020)
Feels unnecessary
I absolutely adore the show, It's one of my favourite anime. I did enjoy this movie but I felt it was more fan service that ends up ruining the story. Firstly the future part was weird, I don't know why it was there other than a call-back to the best episode of the series. I don't think that Gilbert should be alive, the show was about Violet learning to live without Gilbert, so him being alive kind of ruins it. Even if he was alive, they should have parted ways in the end, showing that Violet no longer needs him. Instead we got them reuniting, which although sweet, felt a little disappointing to me. Also what's with their relationship. I always assumed it was a father-daughter relationship and it appears to be romantic at the end which felt kind of gross. Maybe its my wrong interpretation of the series, but it always felt father-daughter to me, which makes more sense in my opinion. The age gap is weird, but okay, I'll let it slide since things were different when it's set, but dude practically raised her, its messed up that they are a couple. Other than that, pretty solid movie. More of the same tearjerker stuff from the series. Didn't live up to the show, but its not a disappointment.
About Time (2013)
All round great film
About time is a really good movie. It has a little bit of everything you want out of a movie. Although titled a rom-com, it's not your cliché one. Instead of focusing on just romance it explores a large portion of the protagonist life, going through the ups and downs. The time travel aspect of it is really cool to watch. Instead of having changes like other time travel movies, if focuses on the little things. Like changing an awkward conversation or an embarrassing moment, things that everyone wishes they could do. It makes if feel more grounded in reality than other time travel movies, despite it being unrealistic. It's not a unique, blow your mind kind of movie, but I believe it deserves a 9. I rate based on enjoyment, and although being a fairly basic movie, I loved every second of it. It may not have the impact on cinema that other movies have, but I will remember it a lot more than those cause its joyful, sad, funny and everything else. So sit down, relax, and enjoy.
You (2018)
Great Thiller
You is a very well made show. It has an interesting plot with a fantastic protagonist. Joe, although extremely creepy, is a likeable character. His monologue's throughout the show give a deep dive into his twisted psyche. It's very reminiscent of Dexter in that way.

The Bourne Identity (2002)
Really Bad, overrated film
This movie is not as good as it's cracked up to be, in fact the entire trilogy is pretty meh. The story isn't bad, pretty average stuff. Classic super soldier goes on adventure and brings random girl along to have a love interest. Its boring but I can deal with it. My biggest problem with this movie is the action. I despise shaky cam. It hurts my eyes, I don't know what's going on, and its just an excuse for not having actors choreograph fights. This movie pretty much pioneered the terrible trend that many action movies now use, its horrible.
Watership Down (1978)
Too Short
Watership Down is a good film, and it has a very intriguing story. I really enjoyed the animation in this movie, especially the opening scene. The only problem with this movie is the length. They tried to jam a 500 page book into a 90 minute movie so at times the story felt too rushed. The rabbits would go to an area, be there for 2 minutes, then move on. There is not enough time to explore the story. It's a good movie, but I advise you to read the book afterwards if you want a more in depth story.
What If...? (2021)
Really Interesting series
What if? Allows the MCU to explore different scenarios in really cool ways, showing tweaks in certain events can effect some of the most beloved MCU characters. It's all around a solid show, but like anthology series, you're not going to like all episodes.
The first episode, which carter as Captain America was kind of lacklustre and doesn't give a good representation of the show. It was good, but the change in story from the MCU wasn't grand enough to make for a compelling story. But there are also episodes like Dr. Strange (ep 4) and Ultron (ep 8) that are really well made, showing how a small change can significantly change the world.
I wasn't a fan of the final episode. It was a good episode, but I don't really like how they combined the characters from the episodes into one story. I would rather them stay as individual universes, but I guess it's a fitting end. Not too much of a problem, just a personal preference.
Overall its a great show if you like the MCU, the quick 30min delve into another universe is a really cool idea. I hope they make more.
Palm Springs (2020)
Surprisingly enjoyable
I really like this movie. I thought it was going to be a generic comedy to waste some time, but it's does a really good job in creating a funny story. The main points are due to the chemistry between Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti, they carry the movie as they are really the only characters. I always thought the time-loop genre was just all boring rip offs of Groundhog Day, but Palm Springs proved me wrong.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
Nice action, bland characters
Rather than 'Birds of Prey', this is especially a Harley Quinn solo movie. She is definitely the best part about it and Margot Robbie does yet another great performance in an otherwise lacking film. Most of the characters besides Harley were boring, I didn't care at all for the others heroes and even the villain was weak. Where this movie excels, other than Harley, is the action. It has some very nice choreography compared to other superhero movies. The genre is general lacks entertaining fight scenes, so I'm glad to see it proper utilized.
Hotaru no haka (1988)
Too much for my heart
This movie is heart-breaking. Every time I watch it again thinking it's a good idea, then end up regretting it cause I feel terrible afterwards. But you need to watch it, it's amazing. The movie about the struggle of these two orphaned siblings in WW2, with the older brother trying his hardest to protect his little sister in an attempt to survive the catastrophe that the war had on civilians. I like this approach more, as most war movies are about the soldiers, this focuses on the civilians who were affected just a much by the bombings and lack of food.
Studio Ghibli make amazing movies, and this is their best one. It's such a beautiful, awful film, I hate it but love it at the same time.
Adaptation. (2002)
Crazy Movie
Charlie Kaufman has some weird films, but none are quite like this. It's not his hardest to understand, thats goes to Synecdoche, New York, but it's his most mindboggling in how he comes up with this stuff. The story goes that he was tasked with writing a screenplay for a book, finding it tough he decided to write himself into the movie, in which he is writing the screenplay for said book. The meta-ness of it's insane. Blending non-fiction and fiction together, Kaufman crafts a thought provoking look into the struggles of a screenwriter and the simple, formulaic nature of Hollywood films that he explores through the character of his fictional twin. The man made a fake twin, that's actually credited in writing the movie. It makes my brain hurt to think of the levels of insanity it took to create this film. It's a weird film but very good.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
Most re-watchable of all time
Edgar Wright is a great director, know for weird films, but this may be his wackiest one. This movie is filled with so many memorable, quotable moments that I can't get enough of. I've watched it 5 times already and still am not bored of it, it's just that good. The visual, comic humour is a nice element to the film that makes it unique and stand out from other comedies, while also staying true to the source material. I know lots of people don't like Michael Cera, but he is perfect in this, I can't see anyone else playing Scott. It's a pretty weird, kinda dumb film, but it's incredible in every way.
Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
Great Movie, with some issues
I've always loved Spider-Man and like Homecoming Tom Holland delivers the awkward, lovable character perfectly. I think he's a really great fit for the role. Mysterio is also fantastic, Jake Gyllenhaal is such a charismatic actor, you can't help but love him.
I believe this is one of the better MCU movies, like the first one it has got well written jokes and characters. I really enjoyed Mysterio's powers, especially that really cool illusion scene. The way the way the elements transition is beautifully done and with Jake Gyllenhaal's frightening monologue in the background it is just spectacular. My biggest gripe with the movie is the scene in the pub after Peter gives Mysterio the glasses and Mysterio gives a painfully bad exposition dump about their motives and how they did it. It's the worst scene in the entire MCU. It's so poorly written and ruins the moment. I'm not sure how they should have executed the reveal that he's evil, but there is a pretty big rule, "show don't tell", and this scene is entirely telling the audience the plot, which makes it really hard to watch.
Loki (2021)
Best marvel show so far
Loki is one of the best characters in the MCU, but unfortunately is highly under used. This show finally gives the God of Mischief time to shine, and he does so beautifully. The story is engaging from start to end. Wandavision dropped off in quality at times, but Loki stays strong through the whole run. All the characters are likeable and well written and their chemistry is great. I can't wait to see what happens next and how Loki is further implemented into the MCU.
Dark (2017)
Best show of all time
Dark is such an amazing show and I love every part of it, even though I don't understand half of it. I adore time travel media as it's normally confusing a hell, which immerses me into the universe of the show. While most shows spoon feed you the plot, Dark is all over the place and it's joyful to unjumble the pieces. With most shows once they end I feel disappointed that it's over as there's no more to the story, but that's not the case with Dark. Even after I finished it I'm still discussing the structure and journeys of each character with my friends to figure out what the hell I just watched and I expect to do a second watch very soon. If you're looking for a easy watch, Dark is definitely not for you, but if you want to get lost in an intriguing world, definitely give it a try.
Upgrade (2018)
A better Venom
This movie is essentially Venom. It's about a guy that get some thing in his body that controls his movement, in Venom it's an alien, in this it's an AI. It follows the same basic plot, but done much better. The futuristic world depicted in Upgrade is incredible and for once, actually seems plausible. The action is also nice as they incorporate the camera into the fighting, its really cool the way the camera follows the MC's movement. Overall very solid, underrated movie.
Rashômon (1950)
I don't get the appeal
I know this is seen as a masterpiece, but I don't understand the appeal of this movie. It has a nice story with interesting philosophical ideas, but I feel that the movie can be cut a lot. The same concept could be shown in 40 - 60 mins instead of a 90 minute movie. It feels to drawn out for the amount of substance it has, which bores me. Maybe this was the peak of cinema at the time, but it doesn't hold up by today's standards.
Wonder Woman (2017)
Not good
This movie somehow is seem as great, but it's really not. I understand the significance as the first female led superhero movie as well as having a female director, which is great, but it doesn't make a film good.
My first problem with the film is Gal Gadot. She is a terrible actress, I'm shocked as to how she got hired. Her tone is always so bland, it's annoying to here her deliver lines.
My second problem is the disgraceful third act. The film is pretty good as the start, showing Diana's exploration and learning of the world, as well as learning of the war. The movie sets up this idea that Ares isn't involved and humans are just evil and shows Diana reluctance to accept it. Then they kill the bad guy (forgot his name) and he's not Ares. This was the perfect moment, Diana finally understands that humans can be evil and fight wars without the involvement of gods, something they have built up throughout the whole movie. But no, instead they decide to bring Ares in for some crappy CGI battle to give it is a nice, terrible ending. I would probably give the movies an 7 if it wasn't for the final act, completely ruins an overall decent superhero movie. (Gal Gadots acting ruins it too)
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Disgraceful
This movie was so boring, and it doesn't help that it's 2.5 hours long. Bad story, bad villains, bad everything. This movie is a new low for the DCEU, which I didn't think was possible after Justice League. I also despise Gal Gadot. She is a terrible actress, her tone when she acts is awful, sometimes I think I'm watching The Room when it's her. I don't know how she got popular when there are so many good, unrecognised actresses out there. I'm convinced she got hired for her looks, cause there's no way anyone can think she is good. I'm a bit off track, this turned into a Gal Gadot hate rant. Don't watch the film, it's boring and 2.5 hours of my life I'll never get back.
