Tall Girl 2 (2022)
Loved the first one. This is difficult to watch
Really wanted to like this :( this is beyond predictable and kind of cringeworthy. So sad. The fault is mostly writing. Actors do an ok job. But oh the writing. It is terrible.
Space Force (2020)
Brilliant and hysterically funny
This is scary funny - in a way that you start to fear how much of this could be actually real! Steve Carell has some range, well done him! Overall, a refreshingly funny take on the apparent stupidity that is unfolding in our governments.
Most Dangerous Game (2020)
Perfect length, very well done
I don't know if we ever need to go back to 30-minute or 1 hour series any more. Loved every minute and even had some time to sleep after binging the whole show in one night :) well done, well shot, well acted - thank you, Quibi for reinventing streaming!
Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)
A stand out cast
This is such great fun, really for the entire family and all ages. All of the actors are extremely good, but I am stunned by how good an actor Jack Black is! The Rock is also outstanding as Denny Devito.
6 Underground (2019)
Good old Ryan Reynolds fun
The action is great and Ryan's humor shines through. Although, the storyline (much like the action at times) is a bit wishful and hard to believe. But the premise is what we all need nowadays. Hopefully, there will be sequels.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019)
Magical and fun
Angelina is the highlight of this movie, but only because she is amazing! All of the other actors are very good in their roles, especially the raven :) it is a magical, beautiful wallpaper of a movie that you just want to watch over and over. Loved it :)
A Star Is Born (2018)
A long run up to a disappointing end
I guess I expected a bit more in terms of story development. Such huge decisions cannot be a result of minor comments from third-tier characters. Maybe it is the way life is, actually. It did leave me asking and wondering if this was actually the end...
Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (2019)
Quite funny with most of the heavy lifting done by Ryan Reynolds
I am not a Pokemon fan and had no idea what was going on - I am sure the actual fans would have enjoyed the plot more. However, I enjoyed the humor - carried through by Reynolds - enough to make the movie fun and interesting even for a complete non-fan for anything Pokemon.
Shazam! (2019)
A MUCH better superhero movie than most
This was a surprisingly heartwarming movie - much more than what you'd expect from a superhero movie. I hope there a sequels and parallel-quels and prequels if they are just as refreshing.
Men in Black: International (2019)
Very funny, light and entertaining
I do not know why this movie has such a low ratings. It is very funny and pretty much everything you would expect from Men in Black! Loved it and would see it again.
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)
Tedious and fantastical
This installment is very tedious and fantastical even for John Wick standards. It is still amazing how assassins chose to use knives instead of guns when trying to kill him, but ok :) at the end of the film I was as exhausted as Keanu looked. Still, very entertaining and worth watching.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Overall, a meh kind of movie
This movie was full of weird plot holes, or maybe I don't get it. Captain Marvel was great, could have had a bit more to do, but it was a fair amount... but it is still strange for me how she can bring a space ship across 1000 light years back to earth, but cannot beat Thanos in one to one combat - just strange. What I don't quite get is if Gamora's death was undone. Then yet, she has another Guardians movie to do, so I guess so. Appearance of one of the Russo brothers was cheesy. The best part was Thor, I loved his new reformed self in this one.
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
Don't watch unless you have a ton of time on your hands
Sadly, this show is very bingeable, but absolutely not worth the time. Don't start!
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Masterful performance
Rami Malek is amazing in this part. Freddie is portrayed with incredible grace and dignity. He has always had the respect of the public, it seemed he stood above the speculation and this is beautifully accomplished in this movie. Throughout the movie, you can feel the love and admiration people had for Freddie and that is no small part due to Malek's compenssionate performance. Spectacular movie and must be seen in a theater where you can appreciate the music in good surround sound.
The Grinch (2018)
Go for tue the kids, enjoy yourself
This cartoon is full of adult-appropriate humor, whlile being 100% child friendly. It is beautifully made and very well narrated. Highly recommend to see it with kids and then once again, after the kids fall asleep :)
A Simple Favor (2018)
Big fan of Lively, not a fan of this movie
As much as I like the Lively-Reynolds household, I was not a fan of the constant, incessant product placement of Aviation Gin. Also not a fan of over-hyping a very basic, munday movie with a mundane plot with a good, but not altogether shocking twist. Also, the movie taunts Lively's character's job quite a bit and as it turns out, the job had nothing to do with the plot after all. Hence, the basic score. Also, the movie had many, many stage continuity errors, testament to hasty production, probably...
Aquaman (2018)
The lead is perfect, the script is wobbly
They've tried to pack way too much in this movie story-wise, but the lead actor is one of those rare discoveries, like Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. Regardless of how much cheesiness he has to deliver, he does it with style. Highly recommended and looking forward to the sequel.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)
Jk Rowling never dissapoints
For the Harry Potter fans, this is delightfully fresh, but also full of old clues and memories from the books coming to life. The author's imagination knows no limits and it is mind blowing how Rowling can plan a plot decades ago and implement it with a poetic arc - in books, plays or films - with such effortless grace. The actors truly do the screenplay justice. Wonderful casting, very well done overall. Be sure to catch some clues for upcoming storylines.
The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018)
Pretty funny, But cheesier than expected
Unsurprisingly, this doesn't have the soundest plot, but it's just as decent as its other, more "serious" counterparts. The lead actresses are very funny, the guys are doing an OK job. Overall, I would recommend this for a good lighthearted movie-watching.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018)
This movie is in fact falling out - almost walked out
And the Oscar goes to ... all the talk show hosts who say, so convincingly, that they loved the movie. The ONLY thing that carries this movie is the action that is pretty well done. Other than that - the performances are unbearable and the plot is ... well, I am not even sure there is was a plot. Tom Cruise has no lines - the only arch in his character is that he is sorry. He is sorry in English, in broken French, with painful facial expressions, grunt and sighs and so on. That is the only emotion his character communicates. This movie is just as awkward and barely held together as the press tour with its main actors. How can this editing and writing disaster have a 86 metacritic score is beyond me.
Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)
Loved it, much less depressing than its Marvel predecessors
I think this movie goes to show that you don't need a Hemsworth in order to make a superhero movie work. Funny wins :) although some Hemsworth never hurt anybody either!
Ocean's Eight (2018)
It's fun, the actresses are great, the plot is very weak
The original movies had exciting and fun plots. the performances are not bad, but the actresses are given very weak material to work with. As a results, the movie is a lot less dynamic. I spent the whole time wondering when the exciting, action bit would begin. The humor also is pretty weak. In total, it's watchable (YAY, girl power!) , but I expected so much more...
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)
This was wonderful, bring Angelina back!
She was phenomenal in this. Appreciate her coolness now more than ever after the new "reboot" came out....
Tomb Raider (2018)
Words cannot describe how horrible this is
Angelina is a tough act to follow. BUT. This poor actress was so terribly miscast in this dull, plotless, lifeless, movie that I was really lost for words. It ruined the whole franchise for me. Wasted an otherwise talented actress' capabilities on running and grunting. Action was unimpressive. The adventure - silly. Didn't even watch to the end. Oh, and this makes absolutely NO SENSE in the context of the previous two movies. The character is completely different, the timeline is all messed up. Just awful, utterly and completely awful. All of it.
Sherlock Gnomes (2018)
Barely watchable
My daughter, 5, didn't understand what was going on in this cartoon. I was also quite underwhelmed - not the type of a cartoon that appeals to both kids and adults. This is morea type that appeals to no one...
