Leave the World Behind (2023)
Worst film of the year.
I am absolutely floored by how bad this film is. First, the characters are AWFUL. They are incredibly irritating and lack basic logic. So, the home owner thinks he knows what was going on, why didn't he tell the family? Why didn't he get to safety? The whole other family and including him and his daughter could have avoided getting hurt and also could have got to the bunker. But, if that happened, the film would have been about forty five minutes. The daughter of the family on holiday was obsessed with watching friends but she can't because the internet is off. The whole film ends with finally being able to watch friends- like this was some sort of incredible emotional pay off that the audience was desperate to find out. The "creepy" bits of the film were taken straight out of other movies and I went into hysterics when they did an evil close up on the deers' eyes with sinister music. The acting is terrible as well, but I think most of that is down to direction. Also the editing is terrible; so many random cuts and just doesn't flow well at all. As I said earlier nothing apart from the friends "arc" was wrapped up, we got a very brief "idea" on what was going on via clunky exposition dump where they stop the film to vaguely explain what could be happening. The soundtrack was so random. Why did they play a Joey Bada$$ song in the opening titles? It was so tone deaf and didn't match the film's tone whatsoever. I felt like I was watching the opening to a new Oceans movie. Overall, this film is 1/10; I can't find any redeeming qualities.
Wilderness (2023)
yikes
I thought this show would be a bit of dumb fun, nothing great but at least entertaining. However, this was one of the most excruciatingly annoying shows I have ever sat though. I kept asking why was this happening? Or what's the point in this? I disliked all the characters because (even the one we were supposed to be rooting for) were so whiny and grating. I get wanting to have flawed individuals as characters, but you can make them likeable as well as being imperfect. The soundtrack was very distracting as it always played it really strange times. The editing most awkward I've seen. Also, it has the worst/weirdest final scene I have ever witnessed in a TV show. The only redeeming feature was jenna coleman's performance (who's has been good in everything I've seen her in) although her welsh accent does need work haha. 2/10.
