The Bear (2022)
One of the Best New Shows!
I don't want to get into specifics or spoil anything for new viewers so I will try and keep this review vague, but it's an absolute winner in my opinion. I really enjoy the character development. Very little, if any, deliberate exposition is force-fed to the audience. You get to see the characters as they are, perhaps make snap judgements, and then are given small insights to their pasts, present, and how they came to be or where they're trying to go. Brilliant.
Furthermore, this feels like the first series in a long time that has a specific outlook for itself. It knows where it's going, it knows how to connect small moments into an overarching theme and it really has you rooting for the team. It is very anxiety inducing and I think any show that can stir that kind of emotion in its audience (especially in 20-30 minutes) is expertly written and shot.
Give it a try, I don't think you'll regret it!
The Bear: Braciole (2022)
My favorite new show
I will keep this review short because I don't want to spoil anything, but this episode is perfect. Once it ends, it's easy to see that the writers and everyone involved had a very specific vision and storyboard for this season. Nothing was out of place or used to fill time and it all culminated in a fantastic season ending.
The Bear: Review (2022)
Wow! Expertly shot
This episode really blew me away! The credits started rolling and it felt very sudden, as if only a few minutes had passed since the episode started. But then I realized it was because there were no cuts or breaks in the entire episode! You are taken through and extremely busy and unforgiving day in the shop and seeing it through the perspective of the characters.
I cannot praise this episode enough. Very well written and shot. Much like real life, you realize what feels like a moment in time was actually 30 hectic minutes flying by. Bravo!
Life & Beth (2022)
Ehhh...
Not really funny. It's her same shtick. If you liked the old stuff, you might like it, but otherwise there are plenty of other shows to try out. Amy is really trying to grasp on to any fame with this one.
Survivor: Game of Chicken (2022)
Painful attempt at a woke episode.
After Rocksroy is voted out, Drea suddenly wants to make the votes about race. However, she was one of the biggest catalysts that campaigned for Chanelle to be voted off. So how is it a race issue now? Really obvious that the race issue was brought up so she could progress further in the game.
Maryanne, on the other hand, seemed very sincere. She prefaced her speech by stating she'd play an idol and made valid points. Drea piggybacking and saying she'd also play and idol was a pretty mute point when she has the advantage that would let her take someone else's idol.
Overall, just a disappointing episode. I was hoping Drea would win before this one, but the phoned in race card tactic is just upsetting and ruins an otherwise fun game to watch.
Supermarket Sweep (2020)
Great Gameshow; Terrible Host
Honestly, if you're a fan of the original Supermarket Sweep or just a gameshow fan in general, then you'd like the show. It's got great minigames, keeps the audience involvement up, and watching people sprint with carts and try to avoid each other is hilarious.
The problem is that Leslie Jones just is not great at hosting. Her jokes are unfunny and ill-timed and there are plenty of moments where she tries to steal the spotlight. The whole finale where the winning contestants play for the grand prize is great, but they spend half of the finale with a camera on Leslie giving unnecessary commentary with forced jokes. Why? The finale could easily just be the two contestants running around and discussing clues with each other.
Overall, if you like Leslie Jones or are indifferent to her than the show is worth a watch. If you find her unfunny then this show is par for the course.
