The Tiger Who Came to Tea (2019)
Wonderfully charming
The low score on IMDb and the negative reviews for this lovely short movie, based on a book published by a British author, in Britain, in 1968 is everything that is wrong with modern society and the Internet today.
The book is a short story, and the film adaption a faithful tribute to its author who passed away the same year the film was released and is a hugely celebrated children's writer.
The story itself is a firm favourite from my childhood and my children's - my daughter choosing to dress up in a home made tiger costume for the annual World Book Day celebration at school when she was 5 years old.
The film is delightful, funny and only half an hour to sit down and enjoy something simple. I didn't even watch it with children - I just enjoyed it for what it is.
American Beauty Star (2017)
Ridiculous noise!
Stumbled across this on my Roku App. Already a fan of Project Runway/ANTM it looked up my street and the first 2 episodes started well. However I switched off after the pop-up beauty episode. Who on Earth green-lit this with the super loud synthetic keyboard music overlay?! I couldn't hear a single word the contestants or judges were saying so I simply couldn't watch it.
This stinks of amateur tv production and doesn't set a great scene for the remaining episodes. I'll just Google the contestants instead to find out who wins.
Unbelievably irritating.
The show had good promise but I'm not surprised it only lasted 2 seasons.
Romantic Getaway (2023)
Adding a review as I don't like odd numbers
Just finished watching this tonight and overall it was entirely enjoyable. I didn't weep with laughter but there were plenty of chuckles to keep me entertained and it was refreshing to watch a show with half an hour episodes for a change.
The premise was interesting, the execution ridiculous, which is what you expect in a comedy, and the ending sufficiently satisfying. The "uncle" Ketan character was an absolute show stealer.
I particularly enjoyed the storyline of the tax office arriving to audit them...probably even less likely than how easily Romesh's character stole and fenced a Ferrari!!
7/10.
Endeavour: Prey (2016)
Hathaway Senior
Second viewing of 'Prey' and I obviously hadn't been paying enough attention the first time around. Missed the connection with Crevecouer Hall and the introduction of Philip Hathaway, detective James Hathaway's father who appears in Lewis episode The Dead of Winter. That story reveals James lived at Crevecouer Hall as a child with his father as Estate Manager. Great to see a casting to resemble Hathaway from the Lewis series.
Overall, I really enjoy this episode - I don't think the plot is as unlikely as other reviewers have suggested, and A Touch of Frost has a very similar offering. Endangered Species.
