Doctor Who: The Giggle (2023)

Bigeneration sucks, I hate it so much
11 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Great episode, they really greatly set up the toymaker, it's really exciting, great character building and build up and then...!

He just kills the doctor. Like, what's the point he could have done that immediately is that where all that build up was for? He could have done that the entire time. He pretended like he would have a great ending to his game, and them, Tennants doctor is finally ready to let go of being himself. "Allonsy" pretty beautiful. Random pointless moment for a regeneration, but fine, it's a good arc.. and then...!

He bi generates? That takes away from all the emotion!!! How does that even work? Regeneration is made to heal a timelord. The next time I shoot an axolotl it will spawn a clone instead of heal? It doesn't make sense! We get no introduction to 15 whatsoever, het gets no "who am I?" Arc, something crucial for a new doctor, he's just there, we're given no time to get used to him or to show his character... he's just a random bloke that runs away with the TARDIS, and now we have two doctors?? Two Tardisses? THAT MAKES EVERYTHING THE 15th DOCTOR DOES POINTLESS, CUZ IT DOESNT MATTER, CUZ THERES ALWAYS ANOTHER DOCTOR TO FIX IT! Like the timeless child we have no fear for the lives of the doctors now, but doubled, cuz a died version will be back in the other doctors regeneration. I hate it I hate it I hate it. It's not even explained how it happened! It's a pointless plot device for nothing. It just ruins everything. Thanks rtd, we thought you'd fix it but you ruined it even more.

Better every time I watch it
1 November 2023
The Haunting of Hill House grabs you like nothing else can. With such a slow burn it tells so much, in so many details, without straight up telling you. This should be the example for future writers on how you should show, and not tell. The horror is some of the best I have ever seen, and the show doesn't even need it. The family drama is some of the most captivating stories I have ever seen, making me feel emotions I didn't know existed. The characters are amazingly outdrawn, and with only 10 episodes you feel like you have known them your entire life. It is about many things in life, and has a powerful message. The fantasy part of the show is so well done...

This has to be the most perfect wrapped up mini-series I have ever seen, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Doctor Who (1996 TV Movie)

Decent movie, good doctor, bad dialogue, a lot of out-of-character moments
23 October 2023
Both side kicks just go on with everything in the adventure without asking, everything is straight up told to your face, which breaks the first rule of storytelling: show don't tell, things that happen feel very forced, and sometimes the acting is crap. The weird eye thing is never really explained, the Masters remains possessing a random ambulance guy is too random, and I felt the movie could tell more of a story with a longer runtime. Although I love Paul McGann as the doctor and Eric Roberts as the master, and some lines are great, (the rest of them are plain horrible) the movie just falls apart.

Terrifying, not sure if I am a fan of the ending
1 September 2023
I will never look at J. K. Simmons the same way again. His portrayal of Terrence Fletcher was terrifying. I hate all sorts of groups supposed to work by abuse and discipline, and this movie portrays the problem well. It has amazing acting, amazing visuals, and brings the intensity amazingly to you on the couch. However, I feel like the ending glorifies what Fletcher did. Fletcher finally approves of Andrew, and we see the two sharing a happy moment. I had rather wisher Fletcher found his place in the world at the end. Not because I wanted a happy ending, but because this one made it feel like the message didn't come through.

Melancholia (2011)

Whiny, pretentious and annoying.
12 August 2023
Paul Von Trier chose a planet instead of an asteroid, to make it all the more dramatic. With a filmmaker as good as him you can really do something with this concept, but as I read somewhere else in a review, he chooses the wrong people to go with. Filming an apocalypse but only following 4 people is a concept you can really work with, it started of promising with the wedding. A dramatic, just-a-little-off, sometimes funny gathering. Youd love to see these people react to such a catastrophe. It could be a comment on nihilsm, do what you can in your last moments. It could be about live, it could be about people and how they experience life. It could contrast happy bits of the drama with a horrible faith. Instead it chooses to think its too good for that, Paul Von Trier apparently thinks looseness equals bad movie. We follow a whiny, quite annoying, mean woman and her stressed out sister after the wedding. We dont aim for these people. We dont hope. We dont fear. We dont feel sad for them, it's just uncomfortable. A good movie is thought-provoking, enriching, and makes you feel something. This didnt. It could have gone anywhere, and it chose the worst path.

Beside from that the acting is brilliant and the music and cinematography too. Would love to see an alternate version.

And that she knew the amount of beans was random and out of place. Told you everything about the movie. It thought itself to be amazing and clever, but it added nothing.

Barbie (I) (2023)

A lot better than I expected! Amazing, with a bit of a stretched ending
20 July 2023
I expected this movie to be a quick predictable cashgrab with as much stars as possible for the poster, it turned out to be way more. It has its flaws, but they quickly move past that.

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling absolutely killed it. It had great social commentary, while still being funny and wildly entertaining. The design is great, from set design to music to choreography. It's a feast to see all those stars dancing together, and the use of color is amazing.

The story was well illustrated, with showing you the message clearly, they sometimes straight up tell you things, but those things are well explained in the context.

The real world part didn't stick to its own rules, sometimes it was complete fantasy when it needed to be, and sometimes it was supposed to be "harsh reality" which therefore just didn't work. Cliché's and tropes were sometimes a bit too much, but I didn't really expect something else than that. The end-conversation was a bit pretentious, and a bit weaker than it tried to be for me. I could understand that it hit all the right spots for somebody else. The jokes were great, and I laughed a lot. Loved how it looked like the lego movie sometimes.

8,2/10 Well done. Now Im gonna watch Oppenheimer.

Black Mirror: Joan Is Awful (2023)
Season 6, Episode 1
4/10
"Joan is afwful" is awful.
10 July 2023
The great thing about black mirror is the thought provoking it makes you do, it's a show about what our possible future can be, and it's terrifying and beautifull at the same time. This was none of that. I would call this "too much hollywood", but thats a term thrown out a lot which doesn't make sense. Hollywood is too broad. What they mean is: it's a predictible and boring structure and pacing. And yet, at the same time, it goes nowhere. The meta-references are way too much in your face, Salma Hayeks character was unfunny and annoying, the logic behind it's premise is very flawed. "because you signed terms and conditions" is the laziest piece of s**t writing trope. The twist at the end has nothing to do with its theme, the characters aren't really surprised either, it doesn't terrify you, it doesn't make you think, it was just a poor attempt at a "Truman Show" that they tried to spice up. The fact that it didn't resemble our current world in logic, laws and technology whatsoever didn't make you feel like this could be our future.

Things I liked:

-The subtlety of Joan being unlikable, you can see she isn't awful but you can see why others do think that.

-the post credit scene.

Freaks and Geeks (1999–2000)

I'm devastated
5 July 2023
TL; DR: Amazing show, due to it's simplicity and originality. I started of thinking it was fine, but once I got into it... damn.

There is a bit in the Never Ending Story book (maybe it's also in the movie, I don't remember) where the main character is described as the ultimate outsider and nerd, with a long passage about how much books and stories mean to him. Everytime he'd finish a story, no matter what the ending, he'd end up crying, because he would never be able to see those characters again, they were dead to him (literally).

At the time I found this to be such a unrealistic trait that it became pretentious. I have always loved books, movies, shows and stories for as long as I can remember, and as a nerd I thought this couldn't be how anyone felt. I have only been sad with characters deaths, didn't really watch cancelled shows, and have always been done with a book once I finished it. I think that I finally found this feeling now.

This show was a trip, because it had all the high school drama tropes, while at the same time being completely original. I only started 4 days ago, and begun thinking it was a fun show with the purpose of being relatable to teens in high school like me (I'm 16), but this tiny golden show ended up as so much more. It's so weird, because it only has a handfull of story, and yet it means the world to me. It's probably because I am the perfect target audience, but this show is so much about life for me that it hurts.

While still being subtle, it also makes you feel incredibly much. I have never reacted so wildly to such tiny and unimportant things. Before this I watched Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, both shows are genius in a very other way than Freaks and Geeks, BB and BCS aren't really about life at all, and they sure as hell aren't relatable, and they weren't supposed to, not really creating the ability to make you walk besides those characters. (again a lot of amazing shows are like that, they weren't supposed to) F&G does have that ability, which makes it the perfect show to watch with the people you love. (makes me sad that I watched it alone.)

And these characters are just so goddamn well crafted, they don't paint anybody as the bad guy. You get to see everything through the eyes of everyone. It's not trying to be a lesson in how you should or shouldn't be, it's a lesson in that everyone can be amazing in their own way. The show being called: "Freaks and Geeks" + the intro makes you think that the message is that being different is okay and cool, but the lesson is that you should be who you are as long as you accept others for how they are. Because you first see the popular kids in the show as the bad side, but eventually you can understand them.

And they don't try to make every episode it's own story. They don't need to give every episode a cliffhanger nor do they need to be happy endings, which just makes it feel like life. And not everything needs to be meaningfull or lead to one thing.

And then it just ends. In the perfect way for F&G, they don't make the ending a finale, but an ending.

The show was cancelled and it just leaves you behind devastated, not knowing the futures of these characters. They're dead. It's so perfectly bittersweet, because you know that if the show had a proper finale it wouldn't mean half as much. The show is so perfect because it's limited. Real life is often limited, and sure as hell won't give you a proper ending. Like many things in the show by the way. That's how life is.

And I hate it because I begun thinking it was a mid show, but I now ended up binging it so much that I'm gonna fail my social studies test, failing that class, failing my year. Lmao. Ill study.

Eternals (2021)

This movie had 4 flaws
23 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
1. False marketing by saying Angelina Jolie was the big star.

2. It was way too long for something new to be introduced.

3. It had a view common cliché's.

4. It had too many plottwists.

5. The group splitting in the finale was weird.

6. anti-climax at the end.

Furthermore it was awesome. If we get a cut where it's shorter it would be great. Not badly written and not cringe or dumb. Maybe a bit too serious. 8/10.

Amazing, but with a few missed opportunities and flaws
6 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Infinity ultron can literally just eat a galaxy. He can change reality, time, teleport anything anywhere (probably can't snap because he doesnt have the gaunlet) but he didn't use any of his powers to fight the guardians. We got absolutely NO backstory of Gamora, and they had a missed opportunity to instead of showing this post-credit scene, show one where Peggy returns to Steve in endgame. Furthermore it was great. Loved the chemistry between the characters, the ending and the fight. They just could've done it better very easily.

That was incredibly funny, enjoyable and unrealistic
23 September 2021
This was VERY enjoyable. Reminded me of Ragnarok. It wasn't really good as it was just more of a stunt. A bit like I expect No Way Home to be. The ending was a bit weird but that rating will have to go to the last episode I guess. I loved it! Unrealistic and weird though.

Not very enjoyable at al
30 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's a good movie and the fathers story is great, but was it really that necessary to let him NOT tell his real story, even if his son begs him to? The fathers just a d***. He fudging robs a bank, and steels sombody's wife who did nothing wrong, after standing in his shadow his whole life. No. Too bad, you could've made it better, no film for me.
