The Simpsons: Special Edna (2003)
Season 14, Episode 7

The Simpson's are going to Orlando!
20 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Edna Krabappel is nominated for Teacher of the Year after the board finds out she was Bart Simpson's teacher. Principal Skinner pursues her to Orlando, Florida, where the ceremony is to be held. Several characters ask which theme park they'll be going to, and in this episode, it's Epcot, part of Disney World (though in fact, a separate park). In our own reality, The Simpson's will be going to Universal Studios Orlando, Spring of 2008! Though it was because of Bart that the family went to Disney's EPCOT, it was Lisa who suggested they go to Universal Studios in Orlando.

The Simpson's have always been groundbreakers, with several shows following their pattern for success: Family Guy, American Dad, and have also been referenced in an episode of South Park (Simpson's Did It!). Now, we get to ride along with America's favorite yellow skinned animated family.

Amazing, absolutely amazing.
9 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Finally able to view "Ah! My Goddess, The Movie" I had already seen all of season one, and 'wished' for more.

Just like Keiichi and his wish, I got more than I had bargained for. The entire movie plays like an epic feature film, not just a larger version of the series. The images are sharp and beautiful, the soundtrack impressive. The dubbing, very well done. Though some of the characters (Sayoko, Marller, Hild, and so on) did not appear as I had hoped, I wasn't disappointed in the new characters I saw. Celestin, being freed from his lunar imprisonment by Morgan, is intent on trying to overthrow the current system which he believes is flawed. He can't stand to allow suffering to prosper, and believes his new world will eradicate all suffering. Hiding on Morgan's human form, he is able to guide his liberator to do his bidding; separate Belldandy and Keiichi, and bring on his new order.

I was happy to see several things happen: Skuld is now at least tolerant to the relationship between her beloved big sister and Keiichi, even encouraging him at times, "You love Belldandy, don't you?" I was also happy to see the three sisters working together in perfect harmony for their common goal. But mostly, I was very happy to see Skuld finally has her full-size angel; Noble Scarlett.

Anyone who even likes the Ah! My Goddess series will absolutely love Ah! My Goddess: The Movie. But be warned, don't see it alone; see it with someone you love. After all, love is the most powerful thing in the universe, isn't it?

Marry me, Nikki Finn!
25 June 2006
Nikki Finn is the kind of girl I would marry. Never boring, always thinking positively, good with animals. Okay, as one reviewer wrote, a bit too much peroxide, lipstick, and eyebrows (Only Madonna could get away with that). But that's why I love Nikki Finn, she's not your ordinary girl. She makes things happen, always exciting to be around, and always honest. Sure, she steals, but she doesn't rob or murder (unless you're out to do her in). She knows which rules can be broken and which ones should be obeyed. She knows what to take and what can't be stolen. If you need a favor from her, she's in 100%. Bottom line: She knows how to enjoy life. Nikki is always loving (which is why she has a way with wild animals), and completely dedicated to those she loves, and who love her.

Who's That Girl? She's the girl for me.

Uptown Girls (2003)
7/10
Grows on you
27 December 2004
As you may have read numerous times, dear reader, Uptown Girls is not what most expect. I think Roger Ebert gave the best, most comprehensive review, and I would like to suggest his review be read as well as all others.

Uptown Girls (on DVD) was given to me as a gift. It took me a while until I watched it. In a way, I too, was a little disappointed. Although I enjoyed watching two very talented young actresses (Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning) perform with what would be only a half decent script with any other actresses. Murphy and Fanning really lend credibility to the roles, and a viewer may hardly realize these are just characters in a movie, not people in real life. I've always maintained that real life is far less exciting than movies, and it's difficult to portray realistic (in a way) characters.

Time passed, and I viewed Uptown Girls again. Every chuckle, every tear, every emotion came back as strong as it did the first time. Admittedly, the likelihood of Uptown Girls storyline actually happening in real life is remote, but this is why it's a movie, right? My point being, Uptown Girls is still an enjoyable movie, with two very talented actresses in the main roles.

I'll watch Uptown Girls many times in the future, it grew on me.

The Car (1977)
7/10
Part of pop culture.
28 January 2004
Okay, so maybe "The Car" isn't the best movie ever made, but it's still on my list of favorite movies. Yes, it's a dated movie, with bell-bottom pants, bad haircuts, and cheesy sunglasses; but its still a great movie to show on Halloween.

I saw "The Car" when it was first in theaters, oh so long ago. I enjoyed it then as much as now. I didn't get nightmares (sorry, horror movies don't do that to me), but I enjoyed it for what it was: A movie about a mysterious, murderous car.

A few years later I visited Universal Studios Hollywood, and on the tram tour in the back lot sat "The Car" itself. It still looked as menacing then as it did on screen. I guess the thing that was mostly creepy about it was that it sat on the lot, parked mysteriously motionless, amazingly mute, and seemed to be biding its time until we all focused our attention away from it, giving its best opportunity for attack.

I have it now on DVD, and I couldn't be happier, (Barring James Brolin's near-expressionless character).

Yes, this was a relatively low budget '70's Horror/Sci-Fi movie, but I think it has put its mark in pop culture. Look for the episode of "Futurama" where Bender the robot becomes a "Were-Car" (robotic version of a werewolf), and when he is transformed into the werecar, how much he resembles the title character of this campy-but-good-to-watch movie.

Watch "The Car" as half of a double feature with another '70's car-kills-people movie: "Death Race 2000."

Earth Angel (1991 TV Movie)
Been done, but still good.
22 October 2001
While Earth Angel's plot is not entirely unique (Heavenly Kid, Disney's Susie Q, among others I'm sure), the story line was done well. Older, yet familiar actors (Cindy Williams, Erik Estrada, Mark Hamill) make it a very watchable movie. "Newcomers" Rainbow Harvest (who bears a resemblance to Wynona Ryder in this one), and Cathy Podewell do magnificent jobs as "typical" teens for their time. Also of note is Roddy McDowall as Mr Tatum, pergatory's detention officer, who plays a pivotal, yet fairly minor role. So sit back, suspend disbelief, and just enjoy a very nicely made movie. P.S. Hope this doesn't spoil it, but Angela disappears immediately after completing her "mission", and this leaves no opportunity for Cindy to thank her. This would have been the only thing I would have changed.

A Quality Attraction Worthy of it's Predecessors.
20 August 2001
James Cameron has brought to us once again, a quality piece of entertainment. Much like the previous films that carry the name of "Terminator", "T2/3-D: Battle Across Time" shows with every frame the quality that Cameron strives for: Perfection. Every detail is attended to: The aiming of a laser beam which seems to target YOU in the audience, the puff of dust as a mini-hunter passes over a concrete pillar, the drops of moisture as a polymimetic alloy creature melts and reforms, as well as a rush of air as a flying HK craft passes over you. From the preshow, where a hostess, 'perky' to your face, but backstabbing when she thinks she's being ignored, welcomes you; to the interruption of the show by John and Sarah Connor, in an attempt to prevent another Apocalypse brought on by Skynet, the entire show leaves the visitor leaving with the satisfaction that T2/3-D was well worth the (most of the time) short wait. Even when waiting in line, there are monitors showing "Cyberdine" sample shows. You may even see a Terminator identified through the monitor system. It's almost too bad this high quality show is only available at Universal Studios.
