Entourage: Tree Trippers (2008)
Season 5, Episode 5
3/10
Writers on shrooms
7 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I love entourage, but this episode is absolutely ridiculous. To decide whether Vince is going to accept a role in a movie, the bunch decides to have shrooms in the desert and wait for a sign instead of... reading the script for example. Ari, the agent, having nothing else to do, joins the quest and gets lost in desert… on shrooms. Most of the episode is watching all them lost walking in the dark trying to find each other. Vince gets his revelation all right by seeing himself as a fireman. Oh clever! My guess was the writers were on shrooms. They might find it funny. We don't.

I hope they didn't pass the point of no audience return. If not, they were pretty close this time.

Good idea. Badly translated to screen
18 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The main idea is certainly very good (even thought I was expecting it no to be as straightforward as it is once revealed), but that's about it. If you are French speaking, you can enjoy the bad acting (I think most of the movie is dubbed). If you have eyes and ears you can notice the bad lighting and sound design. The editing is between average and OK. The story itself is very predictable. On a weird way, the artistic choice of black and white keeps the movie from being categorized as 'shot for video'. Anyway, I guess it was made with a zero budget and it is not such a bad start for a director. But, as I saw the movie on DVD a while after the buzz created around the theatre release, I must admit I am deeply disappointed. For once, if there is a US remake planned, I would be very interested to see it.

An extremely poor mix of Harry Potter and Lord of the rings
10 January 2006
First of all, I didn't read the original book(s) so I cannot say whether the film adaptation is close to them or not. But I did see the film. I am a big big fan of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings worlds. I was excited to see 'The Chronicles of Narnia' as a good mix of those references. Exiting the movie theater, I had one thing in mind: this film is just very poor. The universe is poor, the story is incredibly predicable, (most of) the characters are irritable and shallow, the direction is blurry … And some moments are too long (30 min could easily be cut out without any damage to the story). Well, I am, once more, very disappointed by Disney (Pixar excluded of course). Looks like those people lost their magic after all. Maybe Harry Potter took it all ;-).

Gilles' Wife (2004)

Frédéric Fonteyne and P. Blasband at their best.
17 August 2004
Warning: Spoilers
**Warning: spoiler possible** I just saw the film this morning at a press viewing.

This film is wonderful. I don't know where to start really. The story is taking place in a little city in Belgium or north of France during the Second World War (I believe). Elisa, the wife of Gilles, spends her day taking care of the house and the children. She is waiting for her husband to come home. One day, she suspects her sister and Gilles to have an affair.

The mastering of Frédéric Fonteyne is amazing. This story, yet simple, is beautifully written (with pal Philippe Blasband) and directed. Frédéric has such a great ability to show simple things with such great emotion. The acting of Emmanuelle Devos is stunning. The photography is absolutely amazing. One should see the film in theater!

I had the chance to see the movie before reading anything about it. If you like raw and subtle human emotions and are not afraid of slow-paced films, just run to see 'La femme de Gilles' before getting the story spoiled by an article. You won't be disappointed.
