Am I Next (2023)
Worth your time!
If you're looking for a movie with a good theme, and a powerful plot depicting a strong message, then this movie is for you! It's quite contrary to what we have been seeing to date. I'm glad someone (director/story writer) stepped up to show a different angle on this topic. What we see in and around is what Honey's mother fears initially but what we lack is strong support like Honey's father in the film, who stood like a rock with his daughter!
What I liked the most is the girl playing that role - Anushka Sen (as it's difficult to even be in her shoes for a while), the school authorities supporting her instead of boycotting (reality; in the name of reputation), supporting friends (not teasing) and the landmark judgment (Right to Abortion; my body, my choice!)
I hope men in uniform (cops) watching this movie may understand that such cases should be handed sensitively instead of making the victim's family feel embarrassed. As you all know, if the culprit hails from a powerful family, the victim's family is asked filthy questions and forced to take the case back by making an out-of-court settlement. The same is also shown in the movie but I'm glad the victim's family chooses to take a stand and fight for justice!
"Chota sa balatkaar ka case hai" dialogue would make you furious and surprised at the same moment, wondering if is it really that petty matter?! You would love Anushka when she says that she would not hide her identity nor cover her face as she hasn't done anything wrong; instead, the culprit should feel ashamed (contrary to what happens in reality).
Overall, it's worth watching! Also, loved the background songs in the movie :)
Antenna (2021)
90s kid: Get ready to travel down memory lane!
If you're a 90s kid, you know what 'Shaktimaan' meant to the children of that time. One can say, it was not just a show, it was an emotion! And this emotion has been very beautifully depicted in Shoib Nikash Shah's film, 'Antenna'.
The scenic beauty of Ladakh as well as its culture showcased in the film & traditional songs in the background will make you plan for the union territory as soon as the world reopens post pandemic!
Meanwhile, the best thing for any 90s kid would be to listen to the voice of 'Shaktimaan' in the backdrop, which will definitely make one nostalgic and take them down the memory lane!
You'll find Ladakhi theatre artists in the film speaking in both the languages, Hindi with a cute accent along with their regional dialect. Also, the child artists have given full justice to their characters and I'm sure after watching the film, you'll become their true fan!
The film focusses on a number of things namely, siblings' bond, love, friendship between the three thieves in the parallel plot and also, the struggle which the kids go through to get an Antenna. Usually, children pester their parents to buy them things they want but in this, you'll see kids doing errands to earn money by right means to buy something they truly want.
The movie, 'Antenna' also shows the dark side of life, the addiction and its after effects. Sometimes, youngsters do a lot of things for fun without thinking of its implications in the long run.
Watch this movie with your family & kids, which may help the latter, learn Shaktimaan's important life lessons of truth, honesty, hard work, and love for family & friends.
Directed by Shoib Nikash Shah, the film features him and Padma Dolkar in the lead role along with Tanu Choksit, Tsering Chosphel, Azmat Khwaja and Imran Khan.
Produced by Raj Kushwaaha, Sakshi Seth & Shoib Nikash Shah, the film released on the OTT platform-ShemarooMe on May 14, 2021.
Side A & Side B (2018)
Side A & Side B showcases pursuit of dreams!
Written and directed by Rahat Kazmi, the film, 'Side A & Side B', which released on April 30 (Friday) on ShemarooMe & Airtel Xstream is roundabout a 2-hour film, full of comedy, action, romance, and drama.
The movie is picturized in the beautiful city of Poonch & Rajouri (J&K) near the India-Pakistan border. Must say, DOP Laxmi Chand has beautifully captured the magnificent beauty of the town through his photographic eyes.
Set in the year 1993, the film shows the time when all modes of entertainment were being banned including radio, television, etc, and no one was allowed to keep such instruments at home. However, even those restrictions couldn't prevent people from pursuing their dreams & passion. The film shows how a budding writer, a cameraman, a struggling actor, and few enthusiastic fans of Hindi films come together to make their own film when they lose all scope of watching one! The movie portrays their journey, struggle, an encounter with cops & extremists, and how they experiment & come up with various ideas and develop or invent techniques of filmmaking. The dialogues, co-written by Gulfam Khan and the script, penned down by Director Rahat Kazmi, co-written by Javid Bandey along with the protagonist Shoib Nikash Shah will make you laugh at some moments while sad in other instances.
Apart from this, the film is set in the background of cross-firing between the government and militants. You'll be amazed to see people 'celebrating' firing! All thanks to the makers of the film, who have turned even that grave situation into a light moment and very beautifully shown the seriousness of the situation along with the life of people living it day in and out!
Shoib Nikash Shah, Raghubir Yadav, Rahul Singh, Priyanka Choudhary, Tariq Khan, Mir Sarwar and Shahid Kazmi had given full justice to the characters they played. Besides, you'll have to watch the film if its title made you wonder as to why it was named, 'Side A & Side B'. There's an interesting story behind that, which comes out in the second half of the film, and revealing that in advance, would mean giving a spoiler!
The makeup has been done by Vivek Prasad Singh while Zeba Sajid is the costume designer. Co-produced by UFI Productions & Mediamark International Corp in association with Alphaa Productions, the film has been produced by Rahat Kazmi Films, Tariq Khan Productions, Zeba Sajid Films & Jitesh Kumar Productions.
Meanwhile, there are also some interesting facts about the film. Before making it to OTT platforms on April 30, the film had won the Best Film Award at IChill Film Festival Philippines while it was nominated for Best Film, Best Director & Best Film Critics at Kolkata International Film Festival. The list doesn't end here! It had run a houseful show at Marche DU Film Festival of Cannes and premiered as the opening film at Leicester Asian Film Festival & as the closing film at Edinburgh Asian Film Festival. Besides, it has also been officially selected by a number of international film festivals.
So, add it to your list if you haven't watched it till now! Internationally acclaimed, it's a film worth watching with family on a Sunday afternoon!
