Blast (2004)
What Oil Company Bank-rolled this steaming pile?
This movie was simply awful. Very poorly acted, generic plot-line, and I wonder what Oil company paid the director of this movie (much like the 'Sector 6' Cigarettes in 'Thank you for Smoking') to produce this crap and put a political 'pro-oil' spin on it. The comments about Iraq (like "we did find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq") were just downright insulting. I think this movie started off the same way as that scene I just mentioned in 'Thank you for Smoking.' Good to know that big corporations are still trying to mold our opinion with subtle physiological conditioning in our movies, television and magazines. The people who made this movie should be ashamed, I would never recommend this title to anyone. Don't waste your time unless you have a need to hear some pro-oil propaganda.
The Shield (2002)
it IS the best cop show ever
The shield is a very well-written, well-cinemagraphed, and VERY well-acted. The performances of Michael Chiklis, Walton Goggins, Jay Karnes, Kenny Johnson (before he left the show) and CCH Pounder are astounding. People writing these comments need to check there facts, Benito Martinez's character would have been the only who was raped, sorry onepotato2, but David's Aceveda's wife is such a minor character, I hardly see how she offsets the entire show. This show is simply one of the most original, police dramas on TV. I have followed Michael Chiklis career since his first appearance on Murphy Brown in 1991. I love how he went from playing a loving, all-American, family guy in 'The Commish' back in the early 90s on ABC, to this thuggin' hard-ass named Vic Mackey in the Shield. Although I'm sure all cops are not as corrupt as the cops on the shield, read the stories of the L.A.P.D. Rampart C.R.A.S.H. Division on Wikipedia, then tell me that cops aren't corrupt. I noticed a lot of complaints about the cinematography in the comments, the NYPD Blue-style of camera work adds spice to the show....I get a little bored with Law & Order cinematography and shows like CSI are very unrealistic. I have heard from a credible source (an interview with Creator Shawn Ryan) that the upcoming season (Season 7) will be the last one. I felt like I was in 5th Grade all over again when I found out that Star Trek:TNG was being canceled, when I found out that this show would meet the same fate. I must say that I am glad they are going to end it before it did start to suck as so many police shows in the past have 'dragged on' and continued beating the 'dead horse'. I am watching the last episode of season 6 right now, I am eagerly awaiting the final season to see how things wrap up. I hope you won't discount this show on the basis of the user comments on this site, they are pretty brutal and don't reflect the show very well. I have found this show to be one of the most engaging and in-depth looks into the dark world of big-city crime.
