Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
What could have been.
A little too sad. No reason for them to treat Indy like this. Showing him in his underwear in an apartment? This is a fantasy adventure not a drama!
Full spoilers. I was thinking about the movie and how the ending could have been satisfying. Why go to that time? Nobody cares. It's far off and it's not personal to us. I think it would have been a lot better if they actually went back to 1939-1945. And to make it special, there shouldn't be any flashbacks in the movie. Start with the 1960s and the last act would be for us visiting WWII for the first time in the movie. People complaining movie is too long, the beginning is too long. Make that the last act and full of action. The only difficult thing would be to find the story. What happens when they go back to that era. And it would be the old Indy doing the stuff. No visiting his younger self.
Icons Unearthed: Icons Unearthed: Star Wars - Return of the Jedi (2022)
They finally had full control and so many things went wrong!
It's interesting that with the third movie where they finally had full control, so many things went wrong and it was also an unpleasant experience for ILM people.
Also amazing how much they disliked Richard Marquand and didn't think he was fit for the project.
"George was on the set every day for Return of the Jedi. George was back and now stuck doing exactly what he tried
so hard to avoid. Then George chose to do the second unit himself so it was a good backup. For this movie, George was leaving nothing to chance. He had no idea what to do and you saw this on a daily basis. And, so, with nobody in charge... Or one-and-a-half people in charge, there was a lack of focus. There was no sense of the right person being in the right job. George Lucas' hand-picked director had lost the confidence of his cast. Daniels felt very much like, he was dismissed and ignored by Marquand. It's like this man is a complete fake and the more his "fakerism"... New word, came to the fore, the more pathetically bullying he became. He tried to pick on people. He tried to pick on me. I didn't like that. This was a problem. He was dealing with a director who couldn't direct frankly.
Icons Unearthed: Icons Unearthed: Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back (2022)
Amazing episode.
Amazing episode. Things I did not know before.
"Kurtz was very influential in picking Kershner."
"The trouble was, producer Gary Kurtz was concealing the truth from George and the truth was, things weren't looking good. Gary was not reporting the figures."
"George Lucas had done the impossible and topped the first Star Wars movie... or maybe it was Irvin Kershner who'd topped George Lucas. When The Empire Strikes Back comes out and it gets much better critical reviews, Lucas blames Kershner. Lucas says, "They're reviewing Kershner. They're not reviewing Star Wars." and ultimately what he realized was Kershner put an individual stamp on Empire that Lucas didn't really want. People credited Kershner with elevating the material and that offended Lucas. Well, offended or not... the truth is now, more than ever, that The Empire Strikes Back is a bit of a masterpiece."
Light & Magic: On the Bucking Bronco (2022)
The visual effect visionary was John Dykstra and people at ILM
Great series. I have 2 ILM books from 20-30 years ago and it is a nostalgic look to see the same images. It is bittersweet because at the end of episode 2 you still see like Lucas holding a grudge. Like he can't enjoy the moment or be grateful and happy with what he has, what they achieved. The visual effect visionary was John Dykstra and people at ILM who made everything themselves, even the materials. Not Lucas that didn't know what they were doing and who wanted to fire Dykstra.
Cinderella (2021)
I love movies because of this.
I was ready to dislike and reject this version but I was completely surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Such a delightful version. I love cinema because of exactly this. Not because of The Godfather, Citizen Kane or any other high profile movies that you expect them to be good. I love movies because once in a while something comes up and completely subverts your expectations.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Jurassic Park not Jurassic World!
I enjoyed this a lot. It was a lot better than what I was expecting. Definitely better than Jurassic Park 3 and more fun than the Jurassic World movies. It felt more like a Jurassic Park movie than a Jurassic World movie. It captured the same magic and innocence of the Spielberg movies. I'm glad that we didn't see the same old repeated again. Dinosaurs eating people. It felt different and fresh. I also loved the evil Tim Apple.
Home: South Africa: House of the Big Arch (2022)
Show more of the homes
This should be the best and dreamiest home but again as it is with this series, they don't show the home long enough.
There is too much talking people. At least they should cut the talking in half and show the homes more.
Ozark: The Cousin of Death (2022)
Hallucinations
One of my pet peeves is when they use hallucination or nightmares. When it's in a way to trick you to think it is real life. It's not clever. Yes, you get shocked for few seconds, but they break everything afterward. Later you don't care if anything happens because you don't know if it's real. And when you realize that it was real, it's too late to feel shocked or anything.
So, when they did that twice in this episode, when the real thing arrived, I didn't care. I remove several stars just because of this.
The rest of the episode was great especially the music.
Eiffel (2021)
The love story ruined it.
This had so much potential and they ruined it. The huge majority of the movie is about a love story and not the creation of the Eiffel Tower.
If you want to make a love story, make a separate love story movie. The creation of the tower and the obstacles and all the other things is so much more interesting. The story should have focused on that.
Ozark: The Beginning of the End (2022)
It should end even more tragic than Breaking Bad.
Great first episode. Very dark and menacing without anyone yelling or overtly doing things. Everyone is kind of calm which makes it even more menacing and evil.
They have gone a path that there is no return. You go one step at a time into a path and then it's too late. This shouldn't have a "happy" ending. It should be even more tragic than Breaking Bad.
Star Wars: Visions: The Village Bride (2021)
Never thought it's possible to fear the Battle Droids.
Absolutely amazing episode. The best episode yet. Brought tears to my eyes. It had 2 strong visual moments that I loved.
Spoiler. The Battle Droids dropping down and the look on the warlord combined with the music gave a very sinister feeling. Never thought it's possible to fear the Battle Droids. Later they were back to their comedic routine which was unfortunate.
The Jedi strike was absolutely amazing. You just hear the swoosh of the saber and never see any movements, not even a blurry thing or a ghost movement. Later the warlord realizes what has happened. I want to see that in a movie. The Jedi strike without you seeing anything.
The Ice Road (2021)
Don't understand all the criticism
I really enjoyed this. Don't understand all the criticism. Everything looked plausible to me for a casual viewing. Don't need to go into details. It's like saying Star Wars is a bad movie because there is no sound and explosion in space. Consider this a fantasy movie with ice and trucks.
HUGE SPOILERS: My only real big problem with this movie was killing his brother. Like it's the right thing to do. He is only good when he is dead. He has no future. Totally unnecessary and offensive.
La leggenda del pianista sull'oceano (1998)
This was too long.
It was very clear that it was too long. Some scenes and dialogs went way too slow without being interesting or adding anything, for example the end dialog. Instead of having more stuff to have a longer running time, they slowed down stuff. Also I didn't like the ending. It was obviously way too forced, unreal and unbelievable.
Summerland (2020)
The first half of the movie was excellent
The first half of the movie was excellent. Then when the revelation came everything went downhill. There was no need for that at all. Spoiler: Also very convenient to kill the guy so they could be together and have a child.
Run Hide Fight (2020)
It's probably not what you think it is.
Loved this movie. It surprised me. This is not a teen Die Hard movie for me. I thought it was much more. Makes you think about many things.
Huge Spoiler: I especially liked it because they didn't go the full revenge Charles Bronson route.
This is why I didn't like the very end when the hostage situation has ended and she goes murdering the guy. It was completely out of character and the movie. During the active shooting situation she had the chance to kill some of the shooters but she didn't. They established that.
What they did at the end was unnecessary. It was like a studio boss forced them to add it.
The Tudors: Destiny and Fortune (2008)
They skipped the biggest dramatic part.
They didn't show it. The biggest dramatic part was her trial and they totally skipped it. Her father, her uncle and her former lover were on the jury and they declared her guilty. Very strange they skipped that part. Her father was even worse than what they show here.
Victoria & Abdul (2017)
You can't shift tone too much.
I enjoyed this. The problem with this movie is the tone of it. It goes from extreme comedy to extreme drama. You can't do that. You either should decide to be a comedy, a drama or a dramedy. You can't shift tone too much.
Les traducteurs (2019)
It is not easy to be Agatha Christie.
It turns out it is not easy to be Agatha Christie or write a thriller. Please give the job of writing to professional writers. Loved Populaire (2012) though!
Une sirène à Paris (2020)
Loved it.
This was an absolutely amazing movie. I have not seen a romantic movie like this for a long time.
This is not an A-List movie, it is an eccentric B movie but it completely spoke to me. The music is also excellent which is very important.
Joan of Arc (1999)
Disappointing Score
I was very disappointed by Eric Serra's music. If it had a great score, it would have been a lot better. Eric Serra makes great music. I don't understand what happened here.
A Teacher: Episode 5 (2020)
Best episode
This was the best episode so far and the acting at the end was the best acting.
Police (2020)
I loved it
I personally loved it, it's great. Suspension of disbelief is needed. It is of course a fantasy and it never happens in real life. It's about other greater things in life.
Space Force: Save Epsilon 6! (2020)
Funny as hell
This was funny as hell. I loved the monkey business. Best episode so far for me. I love the idiocy of Steve Carell's character against the scientists.
This was so funny that even the 2 line summary of the episode makes me laugh.
Summary: With his beloved satellite severely hobbled, General Naird must decide between a well-reasoned scientific solution and a chimp-led rescue operation.
Homeland: Prisoners of War (2020)
Carrie made me real angry.
Spoilers. The series ended a lot more upbeat than what I was expecting.
Carrie made me real angry. It was around the beginning of this season that she worried about her asset. It is their primary job and goal to cultivate an asset. Then she betrays an asset of their own, causes her to die and at the end, she becomes a secret asset? How would she like it if Saul gave her identity away and caused her to die?
And let's not start with Carrie sending a secret message in plain English!
It kind of felt small. I liked the overall idea of spies and discovering their identity, maybe if this season was only about that, that would have been better and more satisfying.
Beverly Hills Cop II (1987)
This sequel is a mess.
While the first movie is a timeless classic, this sequel has not aged well. I give the original 9 and this is 6 at best. probably should be lower. The first one had an interesting story and the power struggle was the strong point. This sequel is a total mess in every aspect.
