Euphoria (2019)
It's Difficult, Triggers Galore
I honestly wasn't sure that I would stick with this show; and I'm still unsure, BUT I'm happy that I've given it time. I like Rue, but she's terrifying. I've known Rue's, and it's a story that needs telling. It's a warning shot that may or may not be recognized as such. It's a difficult show to watch because your watching teenagers self destruct, and honey, it's graphic. There is a lot of trauma. It's like Brett Easton Ellis's Rules of Attraction meets Harmony Korine and a little Larry Clark (ick on the last one).
Why have I stuck with it? I got invested in the characters. I feel like I have to see Rue's story out. I don't see it as being glamorized as much as the audience is more desensitized than they probably should be, this day in age.
Warning. This show is loaded with triggers. Pay attention to the content warnings. It is harsh and it is graphic. It's teenagers making every imaginable bad decision that could easily end with them dying a terrible death. If this were real life, they would probably be dead. If your impressionable be honest with yourself.
No half decent parent would let their teenager watch this.
Queer Eye (2018)
So much heart
First off, I can't stand home maker television. I'm not that big on tv in general. I watched the original snow, and I thought it was funny; but it didn't leave an impact. As a matter of fact, I'd have to go back and compare the two. This is my new happy show! These are the sweetest guys, and they take the show to a new level. It's not just cleaning up the scruffy and degunking homes anymore. It's about healing and helping deserving individuals. They help them inside and out and do so without judgement. I love it this new take on the Fab 5. Granted, I'm more than a couple of years late getting into this.
Imagine Me & You (2005)
Don't let the rating fool you
This adorable little gem of a romcom is only rated R because it's a love story about two women. If you google why they'll say it's language and sex. There is practically no language in this film. Yes a guy says an f - bomb "f me if I'm wrong" as an expression (for excuse me- nothing offensive here) and he says it under his breath." There is no sex. None. Sex is quietly discussed, and there are references that people are having it, but they are adults and nothing is explicit.
Yes, this is the one LGBTQ film that you can (and I say this with all honesty) you can watch it with your mother!this is not a slip up. There are no flying dildos or vibrators in this movie. It's funny and sweet. "I dare you to" give it a chance. You won't regret it.
That '90s Show (2023)
Too Gen Z
It's funny in a teen Disney kind of way, but this isn't the 90s. This is Gen Z dressed in clothes from the 90s. They are too soft and attention seeking, not qualities of 90s teenagers at all. Upside. Kitty Foreman is back! She always makes me laugh. Big slip up- they saw an 8 track and thought it was Nintendo Zero. 90s teenagers knew when the first Nintendo came out in the US because it was in 1986. This is my generation and we played Atari. Plus we would likely know what an 8 track was. Thrift stores were huge back then, and we had parents.
It's a cute show though. I hope they tie in the original cast more. The screen lit up when Ashton Kutcher and Mika Kunis popped up. I'd also like to see more Kitty and Fez.
The L Word: Generation Q: Quality Family Time (2023)
What are they thinking
I'm not sure what they're after but this episode fell short, shorter than others. If Marja Lewis Ryan has much pull with writing as she says then she needs to go. Seriously. It's going to be her or the show. They take Shane out during a major part of her character arc for one episode and then have her missing thanksgiving dinner that's being hosted at her own bar. Meanwhile Tess, who's mom just died, is working the dinner. Space is one thing but that doesn't even make sense. Instead they are bringing in new characters at the end of the season and building storylines around recurring guest stars. The end is going to be a mess or rushed. We don't even know if there will be a next season.
The L Word: Generation Q: Questions for the Universe (2022)
Best episode of the season
I loved it. It was funny and sad; plus, we get a moment most OG fans have been waiting for. It focuses on three character arcs which is great because sometimes it's too much in a tight space. We get great Alice and Shane moments plus something else.
I am not part of this bring back Tina and Bette protest that's going on. If you like the show, especially if you are an OG fan from back in the day, watch it for yourself and form your own opinion. Aside from Jenny bringing us into this world, it was never a show with a central character. It's about love, sex, and friendships.
My only complaint is that sailor song was stuck in my head for two days. Haha.
The Turning (2020)
Full of twists and turns
I thought the acting was great. It's ambiguous which turns a lot of people off. However, it's based on The Turn of the Screw, so leaving you dumbfounded is sort of the point.
The L Word: Generation Q: Light (2021)
One of the best episodes of season 2
I am loving season two. Things are coming together at this point, which means we're constantly getting these wonderful moments that we've been waiting for. Come on Showtime, announce a season 3; we're dyin' out here!
