It Won't Disappoint
28 January 2024
I am not sure how this movie could be any better or be any more fun. It is a solid feel good movie with really nifty effects. For example it wardrobes Shannyn Sossamon in modetn day Haute Couture. So much cooler than dressing her in period garb. The casting is superb. Paul Bettany as Geoffrey Chaucer is five-star fabulous. Ledger's performance is unquestionably oscar-worthy. And so is Rufus Sewell's snarky and sinister portrayal as the heavy. The action scenes are fantastic leaving you wanting more. Each supporting role by Laura Fraser, Mark Addy, Bérénice Bejo, Alan Tudyk and Christopher Cazenove are all Oscar quality. Worth watching over and over like I have.

A Bit Too Too
28 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I chose to watch this movie because I am a big Margot Robbie fan. But in spite of this, I thought the movie was slow, boring and disjointed. It does make a point, however. And it is an interesting one that is not all that different from that made by the Toy Story movies. But those do a much better job of making this point. To accept this point one must be willing to open one's mind to consider the possibility that inanimate objects have souls. If one can do this, then the concept of Barbie works. Unfortunately this movie falls short of capturing the poignancy of this point. I think that it would have been much more effective if Barbie had not crossed over.

Not Great but not all that bad either
14 December 2023
The thing that keeps this film from being fairly good is the lack of quality directing. The script is pretty good. The concept is a bit trite but still has interesting life. The casting is decent. A few performances are very good. But what is missing is spark. The characters don't stand out. The dialogue presentation is flat. Poor diection is to blame. Either there was a low budget that limited how many takes could be filmed but I strongly suspect that the director wasn't very good at his craft. He had no discernable vision. He could have nurtured several interpositions between some characters but alas, he did not.

As Good as It Gets
27 October 2023
This movie is fantastic! There is nothing to slight it for. It's an adventure flick. It is a war flick. It is a period piece. It is a time-travel sci-fi flick. It is about revenge, dishonesty and it is about honor. And it is a charming love story. The acting is great. The story is excellent. The casting is spot on. The direction is magnificent. But it is the fabulous editing that truly makes this a stand out film. The action is fast-paced. No scene is out of place or wasted. At no time in the fighting scenes are you lost as to who is who. The reenactments of 14th century warfare are superbly convincing. Wow, wow, wow!!!

Surprisingly Good1
21 October 2023
Don't sell this movie short. It is much better that you might think. Full of clichés but presented in a very effective way that it is more entertaining than they would otherwise be. A tired overused storyline comes across fresh and is careful to not be overdone. Acting is more than credible. Casting is good. Taylor Cole is excellent in a supporting role early in her career before she became a mainstream star of multiple romantic showcases on Lifetime and Hallmark. Well worth the time to watch and be ready to be pleasantly surprised with many clever comedic elements. Bottom line is that it's good to know that camp is still good.

The Golden Bachelor (2023– )

This Gold Has No Shine

Kudos for the Experiment but oops, fumble. Old people seeking romance is, in a word, BORING! What makes the Bachelor genre entertaining is the pettiness and immaturity of young people. These senior citizens are too marure to be entertaining. Too nice. Too mutually supportive. The Golden Bacbelor is a doufus. Decent guy. Kind. Honest. Passionate. Thoughtful. Considerate. Ideal for a familial patriarch. But totally unentertaining for the anchor of a reality t.v. Show. Who wants to watch a movie about a lovable teddy-bear grandpa, I ask? Answer is: no one! This series has made its bread and butter on irrational drama. No fun without it.

Boring!
21 August 2023
A way too long, way too disjointed and unfocused, and way too overdone attempt at depicting what Hollywood was like behind the scenes in its heyday transitioning from the silent matinee idol era to extravagant epic talkies. Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie are excellent but their able efforts are overwhelmed by way too much scenery chewing unnessesarily infused by overactive writer and director imaginations. The result is a grotesque rendering that is so much that one's senses are overloaded to the extent that one loses interest very quickly and merely hopes that it will be over soon. In comparison to the similar historical epic about the evolution of the movie industry, 'How the West Was Won,' Babylon is an embarrassment.

A Cerebral Piece with Lots of Spice
20 July 2023
Wilhemina ('Billie') Mann and her best friend Sasha Snow take you on a wild and bumpy ride through their adult lives finding love and losing it and finding it again. You are swept up on an eclectic journey full of emotions, self-discovery, joy, heartbreak, self-accomplishment, and intense sexual gratification. Superbly acted by a great cast. An integrated mix of comedy, tragedy, eroticism, and probing insight into what makes an adult woman tick. A crowning achievement for Sarah Shahi that has opened many doors for continued artistry in her acting career. Every episode is so good that each is worth your time view a second and even a third time.

Not,Impressed

Warning: Spoilers
Taylor Sheridan cannot write himself out of a paper bag. There is nothing about the first episode that even remotely entices you to look forqard to episode 2. Sheridan showed us in his groaner 1883, he doesn't know diddly crap about entertainment. There doesn't seem to be any sort of storyline anywhere to be seen. The subtitle says it's a Yellowstone origin story but there a total absence of expository matetial to guide the viewer on who is who and how the characters presented lead up to those in the Yellowstone series. This was a major shortfall of 1883 too. One would make better use of one's time watching 50 Shades of something.

Awful awful awful
26 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show is the absolute worst show of all time! Even though there are a few decent acting performances such as by Jennifer Coolidge and Steve Zahn, the scrips of the three intermingled vignettes are extremely thin. The newlywed skit is flagrantly underwhelming and unconvincing. The dysfunctional family vacation skit is egregiously weak. The lonely spinster (Coolidge) skit is credible but so thin in content, it loses value being stretched across 8 eps. But the story of the resort manager being a closet druggie, a gay predator and a vengeful defacator takes the cake as being in ineffable bad taste. Sometimes bad is entertaining. Not in this case. This bad is awful.

Barely, Just, Barely Watchable
14 May 2022
A script just barely worth filming. Acting just barely above competent. Directing just barely good enough to make this watchable. Just barely worth your time.

Warning: Spoilers
This was a decent story gone bad. Might be worth your time if you are a big Toni Collette fan or have nothing better to do. Otherwise don't was your time on it. It's so poorly edited that it is hard to follow. Acting is decent. Directing is only fair. Staging is weak.

Fantasy Movie.
9 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is a classic case of a movie or script that loses its way along thr way. It starts out okay keeping true to the original tv concept. But then tries to be clever in the middle by mashing the separate fantasies together failing miserably. The ending is a lame bailout.

Stupid, Stupid, and More Stupid
13 March 2022
I am not a gamer but I truly have to hope that gamers would find this waste of good brain cells mostly stupid too. This movie seems like it is a series of cgi antics a talented programmer created and an attempt to cobble them into a story. Epic fail!

Has an easy going feel and ends well. Otherwise it'd get a 4. Casting and acting is excellent. Story is thin and uninteresting. Quirkiness od Black and Cusak meeps you from abandoning it but only just barely.

A Great Story Botched
11 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What a great start and totally unecessary and unfulfilling ending. This is fiction not history. It is egregiously inexcusable to introduce a intoxicating and aluring character that everyone instantly falls in love with and then kill her off at the end for no reason. Sheridan totally kills the buzz and for me slammed the door on any interest in watching a season 2.

Ineffable
24 February 2022
I rated the movie a 10 and called it the ultimate feel good movie and said that any reviewer who did not feel the same was a troll. This tv show presents a totally unique concept and pulls it off admirably. Beyond words. It is the most fantastic and feel good tv show I've watched in 70 years of being a tv junkie. The most very mostest best!!!!!

Can't Lose with Eastwood.
24 February 2022
Very interesting story eerily reminiscent of Eastwood's directorial debut 'Play Misty for Me' a year or so earlier where Lenz masterfully plays thre femme fatale but also where Holden gets to reprise his role in 'Sunset Boulevard' but now as the older character in the love-hate dynamic. Very well done.

The ULTIMATE Feel Good Movie

Perfect casting. Perfect acting. Perfect directing. Perfect story.. Perfect cinematography. Perfect setting. But it's the perfect blend of popular music with the story that makes this movie one you'll never get tired of watching over and over.
