The Lovely Bones (2009)
Awful!
A ridiculous, tedious movie. I'm sorry I wasted $3.99 renting it. Really bad. I think the producer was trying to be creative, but instead came off like a total amateur, though even most amateurs would've done a better job than he did. It's been along time since I've had to sit through a movie this awful.. unfortunately, it's a cork of mine that no matter how bad a movie is, once I start watching it, I generally need to get to the finish, even if I have to suffer through it. This is one I suffered through from start to finish, ugh! I love Stanley Tucci and that was the draw for me to watch this movie initially. I had not heard of the movie before then and now I know why. With stars like Stanley, Tucci and Susan Sarandon, this should've been a movie that would've crossed my path, at least at some point, and yet it never did. I've never heard either actor speak of this movie and it is obvious why they likely never mention it all.. Don't waste your time or money on this one.
Room on the Broom (2012)
Absolutely delightful
I've been watching this with my 2 1/2 year old grandson since he was born and we both love it and never tire of it. Beautifully done in every respect. The voice actors are phenomenal and the graphics are so wonderful..a visual treat. 2 1/2 years of watching this traditionally whenever we're together and my grandson still gets excited when the film starts, knowing whats coming, and he stays fully engaged the entire time, as do I. The villian in this, a hungry dragon who stalks the witch to make a meal of her, is just the right amount of menace for a young child to get excited over yet still handle without causing nightmares later. The dog, cat, bird and frog all have unique personalities that are so very relatable and charming and their journey toward friendship and teamwork is a fine example for young children. I give this the highest praise one can give. So very glad we came upon this gem which now is a traditional go-to in the family.
Secret Obsession (2019)
Sub par
This movie could have and should have been so much better. There's a misdirect at the beginning of the movie that is never explained. The detective's backstory is never revisited after it's early introduction. Russell, the stalker leaves plenty of clues for any half wit to follow. I suppose if there were nothing else on to watch and you are the forgiving type then this might at least satisfy boredom.
The Holiday (2006)
terrific movie for all ages!
This is a wonderful "feel good" movie. It is from the same person who did "Somethings Gotta Give" which is one of my other favorites. This movie will appeal to all ages and can be seen as a family movie or with a date. Just delightful! I thought that Kate Winslet gave a very touching performance and Eli Wallach was wonderful. The homes that the girls stay in are both equally beautiful and really fun to explore with them as they check things out. Both Jack Black and Jude Law did a great job. Cameron Diaz was good as well, although I felt that her character lacked a bit of warmth, but overall, she was fine. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who likes to leave a theaters feeling uplifted and inspired.
