The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes plunges us into a vintage Panem and i'll admit, i'd love to see more stories in this world. The production of this movie is really brilliant; costumes, set design and the old school aesthetic all are perfect.
Tom Blyth is the heart of this movie and he does a really good job with what he's given (Rachel Zegler also has an amazing voice). My issue with the characters in this movie is that we aren't given enough time for their character arcs to really hit home and to care enough about them to understand their motivations.
It all wraps up far too suddenly in the third act and here lies the issue of pacing in the film. It's quite uneven, spending too long on some parts and not enough on others. It works for the most part but some areas begin to drag.
Overall i had a fun time with this but was left a bit disappointed. Snow's backstory is great but not as good as it should have been.
