Brilliant, thoughtful film
6 October 2022
My wife and I really enjoyed this. It is an intriguing story, unlike anything else you've seen. And that is refreshing! It's beautifully written, acted and directed.

It moves at a steady pace but we were gripped every minute. You don't know where it's going and then you sort of do but it's done so well and with subtlety.

The cinematography is first class too. And no superhero nonsense or green screens. Refreshing!

The dialogue and the characterisation seem true to life - no silly dramatics. The characters are sympathetic.

Well worth watching. Stephen King does produce intriguing and gripping stories.

Ok so it's not an Oscar winner but...

... I enjoyed it more than I thought. Clever, almost captivating, cinematography. The craziest most OTT action scenes and people you sort of care about. It's bonkers but I've seen worse.

Good film with some odd bits but worth watching.

I enjoyed it. I've never been a great fan of Rosamund Pike but she is an excellent actress and this is a very well made and acted. Interesting too. But slightly oddly made, jumping from 1893 to 1961 and back.

Remember Star Wars is for children not adults
20 June 2022
I agree with many of the reviews here - the acting is so so, the story isn't great but it's not designed for adults. Of course the story and characters are a bit simple - it always was designed for youngsters and seen like that, this series is ok. So enjoy it for what it is and if you see a review by someone over 30 then probably best to ignore it!

Excellent fun movie.....and no stupid marvel nonsense!

Hadn't seen the original but really enjoyed this. A simple but strong story and not too far from the believable. The flying scenes are brilliant and seemed realistic- so the special effects were almost invisible. Not too dark, no gratuitous sex scenes - a great old fashioned upbeat popcorn movie for the family. Let's hope it leads the demise of the endless gloomy, dark films and superhero rubbish.

Starts well then becomes unintelligible.

Umm, a bit wokey/cheesy. Sort of lost interest after the 5th(?) episode and so didn't bother to work out what was going on.

Normal stuff about anti oil, big business, identity politics blah, blah.

Pretty terrible but enjoyed a night out at the cinema

Gosh, where to start! Ok we accept that we have to suspend disbelief but it went to far. Despite most of the earth and all the earth's near space being destroyed all the mobile and Sat phones worked all the time. And the characters were all so awful - a disaster movie where you don't care whether they live or die is a disaster. You don't believe in the relationships and ultimately this is why it fails. A shame as Roland Emmerich has made some fantastic disaster films - films with effects, humour, family relationships and heart.

Brilliant and refreshing

Ignore silly people saying silly things. This is a brilliantly original Children's film. It isn't the saccharine Disney version (fun though that is). This is quirky, fun, original and wonderful - and Italian. Enjoy!

A bit feeble
31 January 2022
I don't mind a story that takes time to develop but the use the time to have long lingering shots of people looking enigmatic. Very odd style. It's often a bit silly (brightly painted bikes chasing a car travelling at low speed with the usual car crashing into scaffolding to slow the bikes routine). But I know this is designed for children and not me so probably not fair for me to judge.

Really enjoyed this - much better than I expected
22 December 2021
I'm easily bored by Marvel type films so it's refreshing to see a good sci-fi film. I enjoyed the first Matrix films but less keen on the second two - the story was too complicated and tied itself in knots.

I was expecting something pretty poor for no 4 but it was good. A story I could understand, characters I was interested in and rooting for. A few subtle jokes and no deadpool/marvel style nonsense.

Recommend a watch.

Too silly - girls trying to be boys
14 December 2021
I've reappraised this. The action is quite good. Arnie is excellent. The problem is the female characters - I don't mind whether they live or die as, with the exception of the younger one they're trying to save, the other two are dreadfully badly written. They've removed any female characteristics and made them them into rather unpleasant men. What's the point - they might as well have had conventional male characters. Where the Alien and earlier Terminator franchises worked was that there was a hint of vulnerability and you willed them on.

The Mexican/immigrant piece is a bit obvious and tedious too.

Really enjoyed this

I wasn't expecting much and an empty cinema but I really enjoyed it. Great, dry humour, interesting characters and people you care about and fun story. Yes the story is cheesy but so was the first one. A refreshing bit of fun away from the boring Marvel stuff with their non stop special effects. Worth watching - others here seem to agree.

Pretty weak so far
15 November 2021
We're 4 episodes in and are only carrying on because we've invested 4 hours into it. Don't really care about any of the people. As usual with Apple, all the men are weak, bullies and/or stupid while the women are strong and wise. Ages spent on a woman mourning her female partner. All a bit tedious. Every scene is stretched out for twice as long as it should be and the plot holes are pretty numerous. It passes the time I suppose but I probably wouldn't bother.

A good film and pretty balanced too
25 October 2021
I thought this would be the usual Hollywood, media worshipping, pro journalist (aren't I great I got a Pulitzer Prize thing) but actually it's much more nuanced than that. It gives no pat answers and gives fair weight to each side - refreshing and a lot more interesting as a result. Very well acted by Kate Beckinsale and all the cast.

Great idea, not brilliantly done
19 October 2021
But my wife and I enjoyed it, flaws and all. The filming is annoying and the direction seems amateur. A great idea though & he should be encouraged to keep coming up with the novel ideas but let others direct (like George Lucas)

Just awful but...
4 October 2021
...we had a laugh guessing who'd live and who/when others got eaten. The depressing (but wonderful) thing was that we correctly guessed ALL the twists! No cliché is left unused!

And a good slug of sexism (men= bad) too. What a giggle.

Thought provoking and brilliant

At the end of the show Waters has 'Bring the boys back home' in huge letters across the wall. Wonder what he thinks about America bringing back their boys from Afghanistan and leaving women and families to the mercy of a terrible group of people?

.....but an amazing show (I was there) and amazing music.

Warning: Spoilers
So in 30 yrs they still have the same tech, the same vehicles and the same inadequate guns that can't kill aliens. No wonder there aren't many people left.

Pretty good but don't care about any of the characters
16 June 2021
Why do writers keep writing unrealistic and inaccurate characters. This lot are all pretty unpleasant and my wife and I didn't care if the whole lot were wiped out....which rather defeats the object of a save the world kind of thing.
