High Crimes (2002)
I have become a big Ashley Judd fan
I saw "High Crimes" at the movies last night and I have become an even bigger Ashley Judd fan. I do not go out to the movies that often but usually rent videos from the video store. Last week I saw the movie "Double Jeopardy" with Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee Jones for the first time on video and really enjoyed it. I am one of the people who think most movies made the last few years are bad. While watching "Double Jeopardy" I realized I instantly liked Ashley Judd. She reminds me a little of Vivian Leigh with her occasional raised eye brow and she looks different whenever she changes clothes. I found her acting to be refreshing and very very good. When I saw she was going to appear in "High Crimes" which was just released I decided to go to the movies to see it. I was not disappointed either. She continues to fascinate me with her great looks and wonderful acting. With her performance, and throw in a really good performance by Morgan Freeman, you have an enjoyable movie. True, I guessed who done it before it was revealed (My wife did not), but it wa still a good movie and not the usual waste of my money. I am sure it won't win any academy awards, but is enjoyable to watch and that is all I ask.
The Magnificent Seven (1960)
The public loves this film even if the critics don't.
I can honestly say this has been one of my favorite film of all time. When I had discussions with other people throughout my life about their favorite movies, many of them have love this film also. Of course the elitist movies critics do not agree. I am not trying to say the acting is academy award stuff, but when you combine the great cast (all who have gone on to become major stars themselves), the wonderful story line (from the "Seven Samurai") and the great Elmer Bernstein music, it turns out to be a great viewing experience. The film also teaches us many lessons. The good guys in this movie like Yul Brenner and Steve Mcqueen readily admit they may be helping other people in need, but that their profession as gunfighters means they will loose out in life and is why their taking the job to rid the Mexican Villiage of the bad guys would change their lives and help them to be something other than gunfighters like farmers. I found the dialogue in this movie very good, the actors enjoyable and the music fantastic. People trying to compare it to the "Seven Samurai" should let it stand on its own merits.
High Time (1960)
A feel good movie and a lesson about life
This movie does two things to you after you have seen it. It make you feel good and makes you want to go college. Besides being a feel good movie, it also teaches us a lesson that it is never too late to go forward in life no matter what age you are as Bing Brosy did so well in this movie. A good cast and script, some good music and you have a winner of a movie. No violence and it does very well for itself. I wish they would make more movies like this now
Star Spangled Girl (1971)
If you like sharp dialog, you will like this movie
When I first saw this movie in the theatre, I was alone and feeling down. I walked out feeling much better. Along with a down home America girl played wonderfuly by Sandy Duncan is a Hippie played by tony Roberts. You can see they would not agree on anything. They seem to hate each other and show it with the sharp and witty dialog that goes on during their arguements. In the end they fall in love of course, but getting to that point is fun and witty. The other charachtors in the money are wonderful also. Todd Susman plays Roberts roomate who also creates sharp and funny dialog with Roberts. Some people may find this movie corny, but I loved it. Give it a chamce. They almost never show it on T.V. so you may have to hunt for it.
