Breaking and Entering (2006)
To comfort those lonely moments
Though I would rate it six out of ten, still it is one of the movies I got fully engrossed in, while watching it alone in a theater and couldn't stop myself writing a good review. It had few moments of emotional intimacy, likely to be impossible between complete strangers in real world, because we too often end up hurting people and a strange defense mechanism of formality exist among us, preventing such moments from happening. I am not a big fan of Jude Law, but he manages to seem believable and this one is not an exception. In the whole bunch of actors Juliette Binoche stands out, she has this hint of compassion in her expressions, making her look so beautiful, but it is her acting that makes this movie special and recommendable.

Mediocre
I already had some intuition about the movie that it is going to be an ordinary experience, and it turned out to be true. What went wrong? Firstly if we are to believe what is going on the screen can happen, it should have been conveyed in a convincing manner. Secondly the director should have cast a male in the lead role, may be Scarlett Johansson's Iron Man act could have saved it. The action sequences were missing the speed element. The threat of a nuclear warfare came and went so easily as if it is some daily street fight of local thugs. Overall it's an average movie and could be watched on HBO if you have nothing else to do, no need to waste your money in a theater.
Raajneeti (2010)
"could have been a good movie but had so many flaws"
I didn't have high expectations from the movie, even then it failed to impress me. There were a lot of things happening very fast, seemed like it was over-packed with events and turns but surprise element was missing. Dialogues were average and seemed stupid in many scenes, like the conversation between Ajay Devgan and Ranbeer's mother, and the conversation between Katrina and Ranbeer in one of the last scenes where she announces her pregnancy.
Arjun Rampal was looking out of place, and wasn't carrying the aggression and rawness required for his character, he was too polished. Ranbir Kapoor acted good and carried the Micheal Corleone act well. Not to mention he had a lot of scope as his character was central, but again this was one of the flaws because it left very little for the rivalry between him and Ajay Devgan, who still made his presence felt in all the scenes and did justice to his role. Manoj Bajpei was also good but lacked sharpness needed for his character, if his character could just carried the confidence he showed up in Veer Zara. To summarize mostly all the characters were under developed. Katrina's transformation into a loving wife was so sudden that it looked awkward.
Katrina as a political leader waiving hands looked awkward because of the way the scenes were shot. Dialogues and character development is the basic flaw along with not so good editing, or the movie could have been very good.
That scene of Arjun Rampal after killing the police officer was executed well and had the necessary terror element, however there was so much of blood bath in the movie that it came and went like an ordinary scene.Nana Patekar was OK in his role.
I would rate 6 out of 10.
Gol Maal (1979)
What a movie!!
Someone has rightly said, you can watch this movie any number of times. The best part of Hrishikesh Mukharjee's movies is that he captures the time period, the lifestyle of that era where movie is setup, simple events or references from day to day life that reveals a lot about the time and society. This one is no exception.
It will always give you a feeling of freshness even if you watch it continuously for a week. Pleasant is the one word I would like to associate with this movie in it's true sense. Utpal Datt is outstanding in his act, but he is Amol Palekar who stole the show. He beautifully executed the pole apart characters, the credit should be given to the director I would say.
How long we would have to wait for someone like Hrishida to give us simple and perfect marvels like this.
Maqbool (2003)
Shakespeare would have loved it.
This movie is one of the achievements of Indian cinema, and I consider that Vishal Bhardwaj is a master of adaptation. Maqbool, "The Blue Umbrella" and Omkara, you don't need more examples. I think Maqbool is his best movie, he cannot surpass what he created in Maqbool.
There cannot be a better adaptation of McBeth, it's flawless indeed. Though McBeth is one of the plays I dislike most and I don't watch more of this move for the very same reason that I wanted to have sympathy with McBeth but can't, wanted to have sympathy with Maqbool but can't.
Several scenes in the movie executed flawlessly, each character surpassing the other. I would not recommend this movie to SRK fans, but if you like a masterpiece irrespective of it's genre then watch it.
That line of Tabu - "Thirteen moles are there on my body, would you see where they are?" left Maqbool helpless. The witches act of Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah was brilliant. Pankaj Kapoor stole the show as Abbaji. This movie is an masterpiece.
Gulaal (2009)
Excellent!!
Writing a movie review for the first time, and glad that I have picked such a powerful movie as a beginner. It's nice to see that there is another director who can match the capabilities of Vishal Bhardwaj in today's Indian cinema. Hats off to Anurag Kashyap for two masterpieces back to back, Dev D and Gulaal. He looked like just telling a story and leave it to the viewer to extract the hidden message. The sarcasm on contemporary Indian society in the form of the parody made on Bismil's "kya hamare dil mein hai" is brilliant and thought provoking.
The movie is brilliant on all the aspects of film making, packed with powerful performances of KK Menon and Deepak Dobriyal, Ayesha Mohan was also very impressive as Kiran. Abhimanyu Singh and Raja Chaudhary did justice to their characters. Piyush Mishra was brilliant as Prithvi Bana(I started recognizing him since Maqbool). Anurag Kashyap's cameo appearance looked like an act of arrogance, and wasn't required at all, well it can be forgiven. The movie will not do good business I guess, but it's an achievement of cinema this year. I give 9 out of 10,and highly recommend to everyone.
