Unfrosted (2024)
Wonderfully entertaining and corny
A wonderfully entertaining, fun and corny movie about competition in the cereal and breakfast industry in the 60's in the US. There is so much going on in this movie, flirts with all genres of movies, references and winks, and an fun parody of how companies work. It is packed. The visual and artistic style is also well thought out with wonderful colors, lighting, props, etc. It has a distinct style. You are happy watching this. It is a happy movie. The cast is great, it seems everybody wanted to be involved here. It is a happy crew having a good time working together. Jerry is my hero, if he is yours too you'll have a good time watching Unfrosted.

Poor. Skip it.
I have to set things right: This is not a good movie. There is no alternative way to judge this rather low-budget movie, sorry. The storytelling is superficial, I would describe it as beeing perhaps on a teenager level. If you have seen any movies before this in your life you will be dumbfounded by just too many shake'n bake stereotypes that populate the movie. The plot shows much of the same problems. Not worked through enough. The cinematography is also not up to standard but that is perhaps due to needed efforts to mask over the low budget sceneries/backdrops. Plastic snow, studio ambiance like in 60's productions, etc. Some characters are overacted but that probably also comes from the script, not the actors. I suppose it was cheap to produce and sometimes that is the job. Just churn it out to specs and minimal budget and move on. Director Gaup has a long career and made some excellent movies but this is at best average.
Leave the World Behind (2023)
Irrational and weird
The central concept of the book is promising, but its adaptation to film falls short. Despite the inclusion of prominent names and intriguing footage, some critics have been misled into perceiving the movie as good, when, in fact, it is not.
One notable issue lies in the lack of believable dialogue, which comes across as too immature. Even for people under pressure and with quirky personalities.
Another significant problem is the selection of peculiar events aimed at establishing the existence of bizarre, unknown, and catastrophic occurrences on a large scale. These events are haphazard and lack coherence, even if the screenwriter intended to create confusion. Instead of achieving this goal, they turn out to be poor choices riddled with gaps, ultimately causing irritation rather than the desired effect.
On a positive note, the footage is engaging, and some of the acting is commendable. However, these positive aspects can only compensate for so much when the script itself is lacking.
È stata la mano di Dio (2021)
A peculiar film
A most peculiar film. I would not recommend spending over two hours on this weird and lengthy film. There is really not much to say about this film just to fill up the minimum required number of letters. If you are from Italy I suppose you get more out of it.
Ad Astra (2019)
Nothing to see here
A movie set in space trying to be philosophical about father and son relation but takes a longwinded and shallow route there. The logical, technical and story telling errors completely destroys the movie. The viewer struggle to politely oversee the mess of poor craftmanship in all its parts, but it is unbearable. You have to be 9 years old to stand the errors and the philosophical level. The writers should have set this in a fishing vessel. An environment they perhaps could have succeded in. It deserves just one star, but I give it two because some of the shots are visually really beautiful. That poor guy ended up in bad company. There is nothing to see here, don't wast your time. It is a scam.
